The salt container is from Germany. The sign says Dresden, which is a place in east Germany. A lot of porcelain has been and still is produced in this area. It's even labelled in German: Salz means salt.

Hey Andrea. I know you love copper. I just wanted to share a product to clean copper. It is the best I have ever found. It’s called Twinkle and I have ordered it from Ace Hardware but I think Amazon has it. You wipe it on and wipe it off. It’s not expensive but works like a charm.

I meant to tell you...I use crocks for plants outside but I don't drill holes in them. I put pebbles in the bottom & set a plant in a plastic pot inside. The water will drain through the pot into the pebbles. You'll be able to tell when your plants need water again. I never had a problem. Just remember to bring your crocks inside for winter. I forgot once & the water froze & the crock cracked. (A crack-pot, for sure.) I kept it because I really like it but I'm VERY careful when I move it. And it doesn't go outside anymore!

What cool items. I think most Dresden items carry value. My parents had 5 Dresden figurines from the 1700s, I believe they were quite valuable. Im glad you have things from your grandparents. Sorry for the loss of your grandfather. I lost my last grandparent in 1974!! Now I'm the only living grandparent in my family side and oldest living from both my moms and dad's families!! Your not strange, I love Duck Decoy also! Just something about the wood and worn paint! Old wood calls my name ! LOL!! All the items were beautiful! Yes, we snow belt people need to embrace the winter season ... it is our home ! Not sure I want to leave it yet at 64 years old...times yes...but living with it this long....I would miss it!
