Hi Phyllis. I love your return to jello series. One recipe I'd love you to try is very popular in my family for a couple generations is Lime Jello Pear salad, which is more of a dessert. Here is the recipe: 1 (8 ounce) cream cheese, softened 1 (3 ounce) package lime Jell-O gelatin 1 cup hot water 1 (6 ounce) can pears, drained and smashed 1 (8 ounce) container Cool Whip *** Mix lime Jello and hot water together until dissolved; set aside. Mix with a mixer cream cheese and pears. Add Jello. Beat until blended. Add Cool Whip and mix for 2 minutes. Put in to festive container or bowl chill for four hours or overnight.

Hi Phillis. My jello recipe (I'm sure someone else did this first) is strawberry jello with 2 cups boiling water. Resolve the jello really good. Add a bag of thawed out frozen jello. Then add half of a half (pint) of icecream. Stir until melted. Put in the fridge and enjoy later! Yummy. And easy.

I love jello desserts esp ones like this. In the 60's I can remember my Mom making a jello lime salad that is similar to this one that had cottage cheese and she also put chopped pecans in it. You have inspired to make your recipe. Thank you for your wonderful videos.

I remember this served at funerals when I was a kid that was made by older people in my family. There was the lime and a strawberry one. I thought it was the best thing I had ever tasted. I'm so glad Miss Phyllis shared this recipe with us. My relatives are passed on who made this....and sadly Miss Phyllis is too. A tradition that I have is to make foods that our loved ones who passed on made and it brings back their memories like nothing else.

Miss Phyllis, I found some cans of dark cherry in water at ALDI and been making them with the dark cherry jello. I save the water from the cherry and add into the jello mix for flavor oh it is so good. Since you have been doing your jello video I been eating more jello. The one I love as a salad is cabbage carrots and pineapple in lime jello. Of coarse you shred up the cabbage and carrots before adding. Love your videos Blessing to you and Mr Bucky Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

Hi Phyllis, hope you and Mr. Bucky are having a nice day with your fur babies. I think it is so cute that Mr. Bucky wants you join him for coffee in the morning. On your recommendation I ran to Walmart for the coffee you suggested(I love, love everything about coffee) I was lucky, I found it on a middle shelf, it was a large bag and it was the last one. It was very good, I am enjoying it as I write this to you. Love your videos. 😍

My grandma used to make something similar to that. She did not use marshmallows, but added cottage cheese & pineapple and she did sometimes add the very finely chopped walnuts that were not a surprise to bite into. This was my favorite. Other ones I loved were Lime Jello with canned pears....Lime Jello with finely shredded cabbage. She made many combinations. Another was with "Cherry jello" with canned peach halves that were then halved again so there were fairly large pieces to keep us busy with our spoon I suspect so it did not go down so quickly as we gobbled it up fast. Super yummy. * She made a sauce that she served everytime she had a jello dish. It was made of Miracle Whip, sugar and some Milk or Coffee Rich. We all loved it.

My mother, Miss Phyllis, made this as a salad for our holiday meals. Her recipe did not contain marshmallows, but instead, she used pecan pieces and oh it was yummy. Do you know why it was called Watergate Salad? Was it discovered during the Watergate Hearings?
@3catsn1dog6 жыл бұрын
Watergate salad is pistachio pudding mix, pineapple, marshmallows and tub of cool whip. It's so sweet it almost gags you. I heard the name was from a restaurant that served pistachio cake as their specialty and this was a take off. It's not as good as the recipe that Miss Phyllis is showing us here IMO. The cream cheese blended into jello is a real 1950s thing. If you put it into a fancy jello mold it would really dress up the table. This is something that would be served at a bridal shower .

My (favorite) lima beans, roast beef, mashed potatoes w/ mushroom gravy, butter bread AND a Jello dessert......(Dad always vetoed broccoli, but he'd frequently request Mom's Peach Jello pie...) Anyway, it's almost like I'm a kid again with Mom hard at work in the kitchen, after Sunday church services, preparing an almost identical meal...She was so patient with all three of us kids constantly running into the kitchen asking, "Is it almost time to eat?" Even our Irish Setter (SUNNY...haha) & our German Schnauzer (Adam) would get excited at all the good smells...LOL

I made a LOVELY version of this recipe for our Christmas Eve Dinner! Pretty much same steps, just slightly different ingredients: 6 oz strawberry jello 1 c. boiling water 1 c. left over juice from the cans of fruit bag of colored mini marshmallows 2 small cans mandrin oranges (drained) 1 20 oz can crushed pineapple (drained) 2 cubes cream cheese **sprinkle of flaked coconut for the top Jello went into a bowl, boiling water on top, mix well. Add juice, mix for a second longer to incorporate. Then threw jello & cream cheese into food processor, mix until well blended. In a Spring form pan (you could use long pyrex, as this makes a good size batch), I light sprayed it, then sprinkled marshmallows on the bottom, dolluped the crushed pineapple on top of the marshmallows, followed by the mandrin oranges. (This works great, as it weighed down the marshmallows! ) Then I poured the jello/cream cheese mixture over the top, and smoothed it out to fill in all the gaps. Lastly, I sprinkled coconut on top, with a few more Marshmellows....Turned out BEAUTIFUL!!! We are having it tomorrow for Christmas Eve...The only thing I would possibly do different is sprinkle the coconut on the bottom, then layers marshmallows, etc so I can see the layers when I turn out the dessert onto a plate tomorrow!! Enjoy!

Love all things jello but my wife makes this cake she calls a "poke" cake. 1 white cake mix to package directions, let cool completely. Then 1/2 cup of hot water and dissolve your favorite flavor jello (we love strawberry), add 1 cup cold water. Then get the cake and poke small holes all over the cake(she uses a big prong fork). Then pour the jello liquid all over the cake, cover, refrigerate at least 2 hours for the jello to set and the cake to cool. Serve with cool whip or fresh whip cream. You can also top with your favorite fruit.

Hi Phyllis, I've never seen this dessert before, and I'm from the south! Lived in FL, Mobile, AL, New Orleans... But this looks so easy and yummy! I have a question: How does it hold up if it's not refrigerated for a while? See, we have this huge family reunion every year, in April here in FL, the weekend after Easter. It's always held outside and it's about an hour's drive away. So we get there and have about 1.5-2 hours to wait before everyone has arrived and it's time to eat. The food tables are under shelter, but it can be really warm sometimes. So I was wondering, after an hour's drive, and after this dessert sits around for another hour or so, can it hold up? Or is this something that is best right out of the fridge only? Either way, it's definitely a dessert I WILL be making this year for the holidays! Thank you, Phyllis. I'm always looking for easy to make recipes. I'm low-vision, but I LOVE to cook! :-D
