Welcome to Morag Gamble's (moraggamble.com and permacultureeducationinstitut...) permaculture garden. In this Live at 5 session she is sharing about Pineapple Sage (Salvia elegans) which makes fabulous drinks, hot and cold, and can be added to salads too. It makes a great calming tea and the nectar in the flowers is delicious.
Kids love it - always a great one to add into a school garden.
It's habitat too - a favourite for bees, butterflies and birds, even a top choice for hummingbirds (although not here in my Australian garden!)
Pineapple sage is culinary, medicinal, ecological and ornamental. It is a beautiful, hardy perennial plant that adds great colour and structure to your edible landscape. It grows as a perennial in temperate and subtropics, but an annual in cooler climates.
Feel free to share this clip and Morag's youtube clips.

I combine Pineapple sage with lemon verbena for a delicious and very healthy tea. They’re both known for their digestive qualities.

I thought you might like to know that my Pineapple Sage has behaved as a perennial for the past 10 years or so, in a cool mountain zone. It sits near my pantry window (floor to ceiling window) and I get to watch the tiny honeyeaters hang upside down, feasting on the nectar. Love it!!

@@silverravensblackgarden can I ask so does 80 proof 40 percent not work? I bought that for a tincture with Myrhh.. I don’t know what I’m doing and little dumb with instruction I guess. Also what ratio is it grams of leaves per grams of vodka or something different.

Thank you Morag! I've learned a few things about one of my favorites from your pleasantly informative video. I've planted one in every house I've lived in. That way I know the humming birds will have plenty to enjoy. They love it. It blooms here in Northern CA in the spring, but just explodes in Sept and Oct when everything else is dried up and done. Love the idea of adding the flowers and leaves to salads.I will be drying some leaves for teas and love it over ice with Holy Basil Leaves. You've inspired me to dry tea leaves and grow some plants as gifts to share the wonders of this beautiful plant! A great zero waste gift during a pandemic that will help calm nerves and enhance our connection to nature:)

Imagine... I dryed the top of pineapple 4 months ago, spreyed it with gold paint to use as a decoration for photos of my jewellery. It was staying in shadow, on stoned plate (even not in pot) and it didn't get water from 4 months. And from 2 weeks, new ones ( very beauty and healthy green one ) are growing from among the dried golden leaves....there are already 13 of them. Can something like this happen? Or is it a miracle?

QUESTION: Hello I bought Pineapple Sage plant in the spring and potted it on my deck. It did very well. I didn't know it was a perennial then or I would of put it in the ground. I want to save it and put it into the ground next season. I'm zone 5 Chicago and this is a zone 8 plant I just determined. Should I just prune it down and move close the the house? Heated Garage? Bring indoors? Thank You.

hummingbirds go crazy for pineapple sage,I don't eat the flowers and I don't encourage people to .... let the pollinators have them.humans have many other options, where I live, they bloom in October, when many other pollinating plants have died out, so that's another bonus!

I just love the herbal garden, with the powerfull scents. The pineapple sage is really sweet, but not my kind of "edible". Treating depression with it, is great if it cures the source as well. Otherwise it could be just as well be bull plopping tea for those suffering from it. If you add medical benefits, don't oversell please.
