Yup "modern" cars (let's say 2014 and newer) won't have a chance to rust out before the bazillion discontinued module failures (and sometimes premature engine/transmission failure) drive the owner to get rid of it haha

@Runco990 ROFLMFAO your imagination is amazing i look at my 98 and put it next to a 2008 and the 2008 is completely rusted out. Sorry but you can't use thinner metal and not rust more. I'd like to see the 0 rust your claiming as well as mileage and what part of the country you live in. Come visit the salt belt and you will see the issue at hand. The new vehicles are much rustier and toast due to rust. Our junkyards are full of late models that the only reason they are there is they are not worth fixing due to being so rusted out they are dangerous

I have a 2011 Town / Country. When I bought it it had a Sony aftermarket radio with an adapter for the steering buttons. I replaced it with a better unit and while installing it, I turned the key on without the steering buttons adapter powered and I got the exact same problem you had. I turned the key off, added power to the steering buttons adapter and that fixed it. yes, the interior CAN bus being open was what made the wipers come on. There is also a video from Eric O with this same problem. In his case, the wires under the rear carpet were broken. Same bus goes all the way back in a Van.

I've never experienced it but, on the Panther platform cars we have something called "Wacky Wiper Syndrome." This causes the windshield wipers to start working for no reason even when they are switched off. Seems the cavity where the wiper motor is mounted fills with water because the drains are clogged. I was thinking you had something similar here. Nope. It was the radio instead. Great video!

He had pulled the radio out cause it crapped out, and they hadn't put an aftermarket one in yet like they wanted to. I plugged the factory one back in, and even dead it made everything else work again. He had to leave it in till he got a new radio

Excellent diagnosis. You used the most important computer too. The one God gave you between your ears. I know you mentioned it but as an almost Fifty year professional technician still driving a 99 Accord the electronic failure rate and lack of parts and technicians understanding is more than a little concerning. Also. You don’t charge enough for figuring this stuff out when no one else can. You deserve to be well paid for fixing these multi thousand dollar vehicles that would otherwise be yard decorations 😳

Just started watching this video. We had a Jeep act the same way. It was a bad TIPM. Previous owner had replaced the TIPM with a refurbished unit and problem recurred shortly after we bought it. We got the previous owner to request a warranty replacement and had it installed. Still had problems but some symptoms were different. Bought a "new" TIPM from a different company, and the problems went away. Sold the Jeep.

We just unplugged fuse for radio let it sit overnight and still no issue with cluster and wipers. Could it be the way the new radio was wired? Why would it just start having issues a year and a half later? Thank you so much this video was very helpful!

I think it would just be cool to peek behind the curtain and see how you keep track of everything and get a sense of your standard editing routine and how long it takes, etc.. I'd sure be interested in seeing that. cheers.

I'm assuming you checked the oil first thing. Seeing that "oil pressure low' -- I'd be paranoid running it without KNOWING there's oil on that dipstick. I would assume you would check it as soon as the hood is open, just as a regular habit. So I have no doubts. ;). I know it's not related to the problem at hand -- But I just don't assume; it's bit me too many times: and it never ceases to amaze me how customers will run their cars all the way out of oil, not even know it, and keep on driving it.

I haven't watched the full video. First thought based on our 2015 Cherokee Latitude, steering column spiral harness turned out to be a spendy but correct part replacement. Wipers started at end of normal drive to church when parking. Climate control went blank. Was a dry day so we pulled the wiper fuse for the drive home later. Dealer thought it was resolved with some software updates, but turned out not to be the case. Many lose of communication errors and most related to controls on the steering wheel or column. Dealer called and stated it was a little bit of a stretch and expensive shot to fix, but best their best techs could conclude as the likely culprit. Thankfully it turned out to be the correct diagnosis for our Jeep.

Guy must not have used the radio enough and it got tired of being ignored. Still nice diag Ivan! Cheers. Reminded me of my dad's oldsmobile, he tore out the seat to remove the dinger. Guess he really didn't like the seat belt. GM stood for "Gawd, Mom" I guess.
