these computer + electronics troubleshooting are clearly 21st century technology. Axles and calipers, oil pans and valve covers are solid mechanic's work but the future surrounds the often mysterious car computers and their networks. Been driving Discovery 2 ever since I got it. Drives like a truck. But. I like it. I've gotten the 3 amigos a few in a row. It will clear and stay clear. Then pop up. It's one of my projects to do a IVAN DIAGNOSIS. Park it in my drive way. Do it the proper way. Scan for codes. Powers and grounds. Go to the module and start checking. Instead of jumpering wires and short cutting to clear codes. I'm going to suspect 2 items. 1. The module lives on the right side under the dash. Right where the sunroof drains. At one point my sunroof was leaking. I have taken it apart and repaired the broken drain line and hose. 2. I'm suspecting my brake calipers are hanging up. I'm experiencing good excellent brakes a few days in a row. Next. Brakes are getting hard. Being that the case. I'm ordering brake caliper piston rebuild kits. I'm a DYI ole guy. I'm willing to learn how to do this. If I find calipers beyond rebuild. Then I will buy new or rebuilt calipers. Wish me luck Ivan.

Eric O (SMA) swapped out a Human Machine Interface module yesterday. He had to make an educated guess. GM says, you take the plastic bag off of the REFURBed unit, you own it. The radio was all static and nothing on the screen worked. The diagnostics really didn't make sense, but everything pointed to it. He said during the video that 'part' and labor would be about $1,000. And if the part wasn't the problem, he'd have to eat it.

I have worked on an LR3 in the past, had a dead radio in it as well. Found a burned up SMD resistor in the radio that Rover was using as a fuse. Replaced SMD resistor with small piece of wire, and it all came back to life... FWIW: We also found a BUNCH of corroded splices in the harness in the passenger side rocker area under the carpet. Rover diagrams suck until you figure out how to read them, then they're OK - actual Rover diagrams give distance into the harness to a splice or connector so you have a good idea of where to start cutting the tape off the harness to go exploring.
