The way you rode in by train was really cool. The low water can really make things more challenging. That canoe was taking a beating but did great. The water was raging pretty good. Excited for the next part!

The train idea is really cool and to be dropped off literally right at the side of the tracks in the middle of nowhere is both cool and a defining moment at the same time lol. Thanks for watching Brother! 👊🏻👍🏻

That canoe is getting a proper break in. I recommend an aluminum canoe, as the scraping sounds are much more satisfying, LOL. The good news is that if you want, you can take a plastic bucket, cut pieces out, and melt them into the scratches on the boat with a heat gun. Do not get the heat gun too close to the boat. Trust me on that.

Hello Doug great to finally see those videos, must say I love the rivers in Canada, you guys are so lucky, We have rivers here but half way it might be dry lol.. we struggle with water in this country, you guys don't have that problem, thanks for sharing brother ATB Jim 👊
@PinetreeLine3 жыл бұрын
We are extremely lucky to have this type of environment Jim to enjoy and it is rare to have such low water this time of year but we had very little snow this year relative to most years and we didn’t have the Spring rains to compensate. Obviously you understand all about the struggles of water so we shouldn’t ever complain. Appreciate you watching brother! 👍🏻👊🏻

Biscotasi lake that heads the Spanish river was so low this spring everyone was says probably a record. I commend you guys I would be such a chicken to try this. I think how my mother would tell me my grandfather would take tourist down the Spanish or up to James Bay all by canoe and he could be gone for a week or over a month at a time. My grandfather even told me about a time on the Spanish that his canoe got sucked down in heavy current (I'm assuming high waters and post heavy rains) and came up and out in a multiple pieces.
@PinetreeLine3 жыл бұрын
Ryan your grandfather sounds like a true adventurer! Thanks, part of it is just not knowing any better lol. I can imagine how much of a beast this river can be with higher water levels but even in low water it presents different challenges as you can see. Appreciate you watching brother! 👍🏻👊🏻

YIKES!!!!!! That looked a little rough Doug. I’ve never canoed on a river like that (yet). In hindsight, could a fella do that “solo”?
@PinetreeLine3 жыл бұрын
It’s a little different than normal Chris because of record low water for this time of year. Normally you can easily navigate those swifts but would have to portage the bigger rapids. Yes you can definitely do it solo but it sure makes it easier to cover distance going tandem. Appreciate you watching brother! 👊🏻👍🏻 🛶

It looks like you boys are greener then the leaves on the trees your paddling by.Might have been handy to verse yourselves on a few of the basic paddling strokes before starting out.But we all start some where makes the trip a bit more of a adventure
@PinetreeLine3 жыл бұрын
Maybe next time we will just stay home and watch someone else do it on tv or KZbin cause we aren’t good enough I guess. This is why people don’t get outdoors cause there’s always an ‘expert’ sitting at home waiting to criticize those who at least try.

That particular pin situation. 1st take a minute to settle your wits. Empty the boat and get gear to shore. Tie your throw rope to both bow and stern thwarts at the low side. Bring the rope around bow and stern so you can pull it under the canoe(ropes will be under and around the keel) Find a spot where you can get good purchase preferably on the inflow side of the boat. Pull ropes to rotate the boat keel side up . This pull requires full commitment though because as it starts to roll it will gain more push from the current but a continuous motion will bring it to a point that the current will actually help roll it out. A half-ass tug that only rolls it more into the current might just end with 2 pieces of canoe so the full commitment and good purchase are very important to this recovery method. Each situation has it's own unique circumstances though so it is often very important to take the time to settle the nerves and think through the problem.
