When I was researching small tractors, one of my top picks was the 3901 Kubota. I really didn't want a tractor with the DEF emissions, so I decided to purchase the 2515H Branson. I absolutely tortured it the first year and even dug a small watering pond for deer with it. It truly works above its weight class. At almost 4,000 lbs and a lifting capacity of 2,200 , it has performed flawlessly. It has its limitations, but for $7,000 less than the , I have the perfect tractor for my needs. Keeping the radiator sceen clean usually will avoid over heating. Great video and the 3901 rocks!

That's a great idea if you have a property sized large enough to do that, for me it would make no sense to follow that logic, I only have an acre, and my sub-compact tractor is perfect....also, couldn't get one of those 50+HP tractors into the places I take my tractor....physical size plays a huge role in picking out a tractor sometimes over the engine size LOL. Don't get me wrong I'd love a 50-100HP tractor, but for what I do, that would be extreme over-kill LOL.

If you are thinking about a smaller tractor and smaller brush hog, look into the B2601. I bought my first Kubota in the late 90s, a B7300 16 HP gem with all attachment sized for that tractor. I then traded up to a B7800 30 HP (basically the same tractor as the LX3020 today) in 2004 and it has been an excellent machine. I am 73 now and the backhoe has gotten just a little too difficult to take off and put on, so my bride of 52 years suggested to me to go get another smaller tractor for the 9 attachments I have that were matched for the 7300. I did a lot of research on all Kubotas and all the modern brands (my first tractor when I was 8 years old was a 1938 JD B on my dads ranch and farm), suffice it to say, I have been around tractors for a long time. I have about 20 hours on my new B2601 doing very hard work, including the brush hog (LandPride RC1548). That brush hog has always been a beast, particularly on the 30HP 7800. Look into the B2601l. I think you'd be pleased with the results a flail mower gives on Bahia pasture. Flail mowers offer at least three types of flails, chosen for the type of material you're cutting. Duckbills for grass give a finish-mower result. Hammer flails will almost duplicate what a mulcher does, albeit on smaller diameter brush trunks. The "y" flails are a compromise, being heavier than the duckbills but lighter than the forged hammers and will be the type usually shipped with a new mower. Try one!

We use a 100hp ASV to run our forestry mulcher and it can get overwhelmed at times, I think using a little tractor like the L3901 to run a forestry mulcher is just not a good idea. @@PineyGroveHomestead I’m not talking about preferences but tractors performance on a JD’s there is no such thing as pushing to its limits they tested tuff. Around Phoenix the fields are rocky that any tractor breaks when plowing or ripping from 3to4feet deep, the engine doesn’t it’s from the rear wheels back and so the plow or ripper when gets in large boulders.

Anytime you work any tool hard, it suffers. Just take care of your equipment. Kubota is a great company with great products. But emissions equipment really hamstrings equipment overall.

So true. All that emissions just makes the engine work harder!

diesels are ment to work! but they do have there limits! here the thing with summit they loaned you that tractor to show what you can and can not do with it. people dont understand that yeah its being loaned out to you and your to show what it can and can not do plus they take all the data and see if they can make it better. as far as abuse goes yeah running it wide open long periid of time and going fast all the time your gonna shirten the life of the engine, and do damage. best advice is keep working, keep the radiator clean, and all the screens to keep it from over heating! when it over heats just drive it back dont shut it off just pull the screen and let it idle a few minutes and grab the water hose and flush the fins of the radiator and grab the air hose and blow the acess water out! letting it cool off like that wont warp a head or blow a head gasket!
@PineyGroveHomestead3 ай бұрын
They don't want you to idle these new tractors because of the DPF! I'm just glad the Kubota didn't get damaged and we're back to tractoring hard with it!

Thank the representatives that never do anything for the people they work for after being voted into office for concocting laws and regulations that benefit their bank accounts. DPF filters are useless and cause excessive premature deterioration of the diesel engines. Delete the DPF and let the tractor’s engine run as it was designed to do and you will be pleased with the results. When it comes to mulching p, use a skid steer with appropriate power and designed brush head for dense brush removal.

@@wildbill23c A tractor is not a pickup and in the south from Texas to Florida we don't have emissions testing so worrying about a fine is not something we stress about.

@@PineyGroveHomestead emissions on any diesel engine is just the government taxing the working man. Diesel is much cleaner than gas and burns at a higher temperature that’s why black smoke is created when a diesel engine is creating high torque and hp. Should be if run AG diesel in non highway machines no DEF or DP filters.

Seems like you could use a medium or heavy duty Flail Mower with some hammer blades. It will do a great job mowing and mulching your fields & will treat light brush just like the forestry mulcher. Maybe you could get a sponsorship for one. 🫡
