The most interesting thing I see here is that certain OEMs (who I won't pinpoint....but everyone knows) tell us we are going to gain 2-3 mph ballspeed every time they issue a new driver every 6 months. This basically showed there was only a 4 mph difference over TWENTY YEARS (20+ actually) of driver models! Great job on this video.
@2ndswing3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. It is also club fitting by dialing in the driver for a golfers tendencies that can help increase ball speed but forgiveness is the most important factor with drivers today!

Coming into this video i was wondering about getting the 425 over the just launched 430 since thats a lateral move and the 425 looks better but id rather have a short ball on occasion then that far left right dispersion. My i25 is 43.5in aldila nv 65s Nxt gen MLT shaft swing weight D3.7 and i still manage over 300 on holes I feel confident enough to really go for it. Guess im keeping what i got another year. Longest drive yesterday was 323

my 15 yr old Ping G5 still in the bag and performs very well for me. I bought a 2018 Callaway Rouge used in ‘19 and the distance is similar but my Ping dispersion MUCH better. The Callaway tended to fade more with an occasional slice. The G5 has a deep face and narrower clubhead. I will try the Callaway a bit this Spring to see if my swing changes made any difference.

Thanks Guys that was a fascinating comparison. I have never hit any of the hotels on the 18th but I did once managed to bounce a tee shot up Links Rd without hitting anyone or any cars, it was probably my longest ever drive and undoubtedly my most embarrassing! PS and it was with a PING driver (but I can't remember the exact model)

Sometimes spin helps to hit the ball straighter and stay in the air longer. Always player dependent.

I recently was fit for a G410 at the newer low price. Funny how little there is in it when it comes to a player who is a really good driver of the ball. Obviously the new drivers are way more stable but the distance claims by a lot of major companies is laughable. Great content guys!
@2ndswing3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. There has been ball speed gains, but keep in mind a lot is player dependent a good ball striker can hit great shots with older technology but forgiveness is the deciding factor.

Fun comparison. In defense of my old TiSi that I still use on narrow old courses cut out of forests ;).......That Graf 350 Cushin shaft? Used to fit those clubs on Demo days. Balancing buyer tempo and clubhead speed, those 350s had nice wide and overlapping ranges in Reg and Stiff. Fitting was somewhat childproof. However, if the swing/tempo was out of flex range one teensy bit, the performance collapse was scary dramatic. Your tempo and 111 mph clubhead speed? I would have given you an X-Stiff and hope you didn't warp/outrun that. ;) Great stuff keep it up.

How much effect did the shafts have in this test. I will say that there have also been drastic improvements in the shaft technology for the past 20years.
@2ndswing3 жыл бұрын
Golf shafts have definitely improved just like all technology. The challenge is most of the drivers had bonded shafts. They were all "stock" stiff and the loft of the leads were similar to make the test as true as possible given what we have to work with.
@kimmorrison91693 жыл бұрын
Shafts have taken huge price increases over the past 20 yrs and a shaft can make or break you. I will add there is no good reliable way to know what you need in a golf shaft when it pertains to weight, torque and tip stiffness unless you really get into the weeds on shaft construction and testing. You shouldn’t be using what pros use either! I just hope the mfg’s are selecting the best compromises for normal golfers!

GReat comparison. Would’ve liked to see G400 Max in the mix so i can compare it the G425 Max. (I see you went every 5 years so that’s why you didn’t include the G400Max) How about a direct head to head video? May want to pick up a good used G400 Max if the stats are very similar.. based on these results the overall spin consistency would be slightly higher with the G425 Max. The MOI of the G400 Max is at 9,900 slightly less than the G425 Max.

Great vid guys. One thing i think might be missing in the equation is the golf ball itself. I know there's probably not a fool-proof way to test a driver in a certain period of time with a ball from its same time, but that would be cool to know (you could round up a golf ball, but it might be deader due to age than when it was brand new). Pros like Jack Nicklaus are satisfied the ball is making almost all the difference, and after this test, i'm starting to believe it. The trampoline effect on these faces today is right against the max allowed, and possibly some of the earlier drivers didn't even have that requirement (or possibly, they're more springy due to use and age!). Still the same conclusion though --- today's driver is much more forgiving than yesteryear's driver, while the distance using today's ball hasn't changed all that much. It's probably not a result most people like due to the way these clubs are marketed, but it is a result that's actually better for probably 99% of all golfers :)

@hoseman182 жыл бұрын
Considering that most folks looking for a Ping driver are looking for forgiveness over pure distance, having someone hitting it in the center of the clubface every time doesn't really tell us much. If this comparison is strictly for entertainment purposes, then you've certainly achieved that. If it is for educational purposes also, then having someone that can mishit the ball purposely would tell a much more complete story.

Good video but the stock TFC shaft in the G15 is garbage. The newer ping drivers have much better stock shafts. I bought G15 9 new with a Serrano and G15 10.5 with Red 69 Axivcore and get 2000 - 2300 spin wit both drivers. Its the longest, most forgiving and straightest driver I've ever hit, and I've tested over 100 drivers. Its difficult NOT to hit the G15 straight. The G25 is probably #2 in performance for me but the feel of the strike is not as good as the G15.
