thisjustanother my dad had used those irons.. made the switch this year to the new Calloway Maverick irons. Gained 20-30 yards per club. Would recommend to not buy off shelf, go get fitted.

Very helpful. Even watching the video I didn't like the sound the 410s were making. I'm a 14 and have G30s which make a great sound on contact. I played very little between 2015 and mid 2018 so lots of wear left. Kind of hoping the 400s drop a little more now that the 410s are out - would be a nice and reasonable upgrade.

Don't think there will be much change in the G400, however the G iron is being repositioned . Somewhere between £449-£499 for 7 irons.

Great review. My preference would be the G400. The spin rate on the G410 is too low. It's astounding that the G410 is launching nearly 2 deg higher

@@brodygoalie id take stopping power on greens over minimal distance gains. Also many companies going with juiced lofts so folks can hit 9 iron 150 yards. This is useless imo. Leaves so many gaps.

G400 (and the G) feel better than G410 and G425. Something they changed in the design made the newer ones louder and more harsh.

I honestly feel that the G400 were a better set. Better feel, and I think better looking. Can't say exactly what I didn't like about the G410s, they weren't bad clubs, but the G400 are really fantastic. The feel is softer and more solid.

Before making a decision try both clubs. If feel off the face is important I personally like the G400. The G410 club face feels really hard and had a weird sound.

Thanks for doing the comparison, at 70+, in the fall of 2017 moved to the 400s with graphite shafts (first Ping product after playing 50+ years), have recently looked at the i500s, and was interested in what the 410s offered. Very happy with the 400s, and after seeing your review, plan on staying with them in 2019. Definitely appreciate the info ! :)

Your right knee movement is a great way to initiate the downswing correctly. The next time I am practicing my swing, I will try it and let you know how I got on. It is also a great way of keeping you relaxed and initiating the downswing correctly. Charles

Just a quick question after watching your very good review, is it just looks alone that would push you to 410 over the 400 as I noticed u had 5 greens hit with 400 and 3 missed with 410 I myself would rather be putting rather than chipping.

Hi Chris, I think the missed greens were down to operator error rather than the club. I don't think there is mech in it performance wise. For me the G410 wins the beauty stakes. The G400 is repositioned on price and offers great value for money. Best regards Andrew

So Andrew. Bought on eBay a 7 iron g 30 senior flex. I also bought g 400 / 7 iron black dot senior flex so now I will go to my local golf store and see the numbers . So will hit all of these 7 irons and see if one sticks out and outperforms the other clubs. So my club I am using now which is g25 regular flex grafite against g30 and g400 in senior flex grafite black dot. I will let you know when I am able to get this done. Should be interesting. Cheers.

Long-time watcher but don't comment much. My impression is the 410 is another "high launch - low spin" club but now I am really starting to look closely at the decent angles . The 410 decent angle is a degree or two steeper than the 400 so it should carry the distance with a bit of run out versus 400 shorter with more spin and a shallower angle of landing. The kind of courses and weather conditions you most frequently play in/on, as well as your preferred ball flight, would be key factors. I play a course with light wind and a majority of elevated greens. I prefer a high-launch low-spinning club as I find them a bit more consistent for carry and don't worry about the ball "ballooning" short. Could this be a blended set with 410 to 4 to 7-iron and 400 8 to PW? The sole thickness towards the toe on the 400 appears to me just a bit too wide when seen side by side. Just my opinion. Really like the videos...keep them coming.

A very good comparison and it seems clear that aesthetics apart, anyone with the G400 irons will not be disadvantaged by sticking with them for another season or two. Also the G400 irons would seem to be a shrewd purchase with a free custom fitting, assuming their retail price is now going to be reduced a little.

I am perhaps a bit of an outlier here but, Andrew, what are your thoughts about how many generations of irons do I need to see before I upgrade? I have G clubs and now there are two subsequent upgrades. When I played i10 clubs the difference between them and the G's was stark but there had been 20 and 25 before the G so one might ask "what did you expect?"

Hi Ken, I would put G, G400, G410 as all slight improvers on each model. Its when you say compare a G25 to a G400 or G410, then you can see a big change in performance and numbers. The gains will vary depending on the skill and performance of the golfer using them.

Hey Andrew, currently playing an old set of i5, currently playing to a 9.5 index. I tested the G410s over the weekend and really liked them, but didn't hit the G400s. With how long it's been since I last purchased, would you opt for the newer model?

Hi Michael, G400 has been repositioned on price in the UK so is great value at around £550 for seven irons. The performance is fairly similar. I think the 410 is a better looking club and the wear on the G410 lasts longer than the 400. Regards Andrew

I watched the chap on teeuplo this morning say the new irons felt worse than the new irons! In all your videos in which you compare/test irons, the smash factor is always the same. If I look at the videos of some other KZbinrs the smash factor varies. What do you think is the reason? PS: Great video.

Hi Benjamin, my GC2 does not have HMT(Head Measurement Technology) so the smash factor is always the same. To be honest smash factor is not a number which I feel is relevant to the vast majority of golfers. All the best Andrew

Im hitting these at least a club further than my I 10s...Im very happy with them. They are easy to hit. The only problem I had was on a hole I was set up for a draw and it went straight. I have to really work to move it left or right. I think going to a regular flex was the right step. I could feel the difference. Take care, John

You should alternate clubs to avoid fatigue skewing results. Difficult if you don’t have 2 shafts but otherwise little point.

Good review. I have the 400s and hit them well except when the ground is hard and there is no grass under the ball, like it has been this summer when the fairways became burnt. I have dropped from 17 to 13 in 2018 so was thinking of trying i500 to see if it was any better. I will give the 410s a try along with the Mizuno Hot Metal pro.
