All tips are very important. I have issues dropping my arm, lol. Not as much but still there. One thing I will say is an observation I made. As you get to higher levels, remember that if you can successfully block the ball, it's very likely that you can attack it, especially on the FH. Like the man said, read the game. If you know the opponent will almost always smash to your FH, set up the point so that he attacks it and in this case you can try taking almost a full swing, or even a half swing if you're a little unsure. So, again, my motto is: if you can block the ball and you're doing that regularly w/ success, start attacking (counter-looping or counter-smash) rather than blocking. Then, block every now and then instead of attacking just to keep the opponent guessing. Lastly, if you're blocking a lot, advanced players can re-direct the ball. Just watch any international player in a tournament on KZbin. So, practice re-directing the ball while blocking; also practice re-directing with slight side-spin - that gets people a lot. Great video!

thank you! i missing some information about how can I block for changing directions, i think its very important, you block the ball always to the middle, but how can you change the direction? (wrist or body direction?) because if you can change the position of the ball, you have more chance to win the point: the opponent mistake, or you have a chance to counterattack :P and i am left handed, and i make a very strong top AND sidespin forehand attacks. thank you if you give us some informations about that :)

Are there any exercises you could recommend for irregular blocking? I currently let my opponent play fh/bh topspin to spots I don’t know, and I have to block it back to their fh/bh.

“ keep moving to the ball when you block”. Yeah, try that when you’re 76 and your piles are giving you hell.
