Just for the shits 😅 is Beatles honestly more “classic rock” than just 60’s era pop? I know we all call them classic rock and perhaps for good reason. But more or less all Beatles smash hits are pop compared to other classic rock around the same time, like Floyd and Stones. But then again, who cares about labels? 🦭

THis has always been far and away my favorite PF piece. I know it's very divisive but Piper has always been head and shoulders above the rest of the catalogue for me. I love prog "space" rock, but this psychedelia was just delicious. And there was nothing like it at the time. Seriously, 1967, nothing was this advanced. The Nice's Thoughts of Emerlist Davjack album was very good, and Miles Davis Nerfertiti or John Coltrane's Expressions are definitely highlights of this year too, albeit very different.

I started at Dark Side and moved through until the Wall when I was younger, but it wasn't until I was older did I come to appreciate and adore the first few Syd albums. I'm mildly obsessed with all psychedelic music , the trippier the better, but Astronomy Domine has got to be one of the most profound, powerful and mystical opening tracks of an album of all time. I'd love to play this on a big sound system to a bunch of folks on acid and watch them go wild! There is a bootleg recording I have someone of the playing this live in France in 68. Even from the shitty mic that recorded it, you can get a sense of how loud and massive this sounded live. They sounded like some giant ancient gods playing this. Just astonishing

Fender said/wrote as much and belittled him, rather than make a Syd signature Esquire. I contacted G&L (Leo Fender’s guitar co round 2) instead and they were excited to do it, came up with all the unique specs of Syd’s guitar and happily built me one, original hand-wound & wired solo pickup & all. I’ll never part with it.
@Astro-X2 жыл бұрын
@@Spuzzmacher Wow. And how much did that cost?
@Spuzzmacher2 жыл бұрын
@@Astro-X A bit. I sort of got lost in the spending bc I geeked out and shoehorned the Gilmour EMG pickups & controls in it for a happy blend of Syd/Dave, but it was sooo bright I couldn’t manage it, so now I’ve got it back apart and bought a humbucker for the bridge, & a second one for the neck & the wiring from the dual bucker Skyhawks is now on the way…. Once I quit screwing around with it (probably just end up putting the original 1965 spec pickup & controls back in it) and sell off all the extra stuff I got with it I’ll know how much it actually cost me. Wasn’t cheap though. …but my gods is it ever a beauty to play.
