This album is about the character Pink. He has isolated himself from society because of trauma and drama throughout life. Comes to the realization that he is truly alone, he begins to cry out for recognition. The Wall is more of a rock opera. The story begins with the loss of his father in WW-2. Which is a metaphorical brick in the wall of isolation that he begins to build.

This album is a concept album. It tells a story about a rock star named Pink Floyd. It’s about generational trauma, loss of his father in WWII, an overbearing mother, trouble at school, troubled marriage, addiction, dark side of rock star life, so much depression and hurt that he built himself a wall in his psyche and went mad. The Wall is an album that needs to be heard all the way through to grasp the story. Dark Side of the Moon is another full album listen. Its deals with life.

Yes, good choice, Ric! 😁 The melody of the song is so haunting in my opinion. I cant wait to see you react to "echoes live at pompeii" , one day. It feels like a whole other spectrum of Pink Floyd, genuinely a Masterpiece! Again, much appreciated all the way from Germany 😁

That bass switch up halfway through is so awesome. That is funky Pink Floyd at its best. Honestly one of my favorite parts of that song. It’s sad that David Gilmour has said he will not play this again since Richard Wrights passing.
@onurji4311Ай бұрын
@RodneyBuxton yeah I know what you mean. It really is very funky! I actually prefer the second part of echoes, just because of Richard. His work was overflowing the second part, and you just can see from the footage how skilled he was

@@ericsandi6619 respectfully,that tune & whole Album has nothing in common with Pink Floyd sound! I think the same with Final Cut & rest of Waters solo material! The band recovered a bit,with Division Bell, but without Dave & Roger colaborating, with Rick Right (RIP) sound wall, there is no Pink Floyd left,just leftovers.After 3 decades of listening my favorite band, it's my purogative to say it! Respectfully

The best way to do pink Floyd is to listen to their albums straight through. I'd start with Meddle or dark side of the moon then Wish you were here, Animals, then Meddle if you didn't start with it then the wall. Also after you do Meddle, you should watch Echoes live in Pompeii.

David Gilmour has a soft, soothing voice. Roger Waters has a nasal, whiney voice. (I don't mean that in a bad way. It's just easy for newbies to differentiate like that)

Great reaction and analysis! Can't go wrong with Pink Floyd -- I HIGHLY recommend their 'Animals' album, done as a complete album reaction if you can manage that, my favourite PF album. Since you loved the slow build and subtle melodies of this track, I highly recommend reacting to Radiohead performing live 'In The Basement' sessions, their In Rainbows album In The Basement, Try 'Nude' and 'Weird Fishes/Arpeggi' and 'Reckoner', think you will really love these Cheers from South Australia

Just a little tip man, put a wind cap on your mic because your breath creates unpleasant noises. 😘 (While you listen to the songs) The beginning is sung by Gilmour, and the end is sung by Waters... The two voices are different, Gilmour's voice is warmer and gravelly, Waters' voice colder, slick and dramatic. You know, I really like it when you talk about taking the time to build a song, to end in apoteosis... I completely understand. I've always had this point of view, a song, an album, for me it's like a movie, I like it when the mystery is installed but at the end it has to rise in emotion... But today, the youngest want to know the end of the movie before having seen the beginning and when they listen to a piece of music that exceeds 3 minutes they get bored... I'm sometimes discouraged hahaha!!!

Reacting to the song in isolation is always a good start. The rhythm guitar sounds familiar because it is the same tune in Another Brick In The Wall, parts 1, 2 & 3. The fretless bass and the various guitars are played by David Gilmour. In the middle section there is an electric drill played by engineer, James Guthrie. The Floyd excels in incorporating non musical elements into their music. The lyrics are a bit cryptic in part because they are buried in the middle of a fairly dense concept album. But also, they were written to fit at the end of side three, that is, after Comfortably Numb. Right before the album's release Roger Waters was convinced to move the song to the beginning of side 3 leaving Comfortably Numb to end side three. The story of the album is a psychological one. It's the tragic story of a rock 'n' roller, named "Pink", who uses various misfortunes in his life as psychological "bricks" to isolate himself from the slings and arrows of life. That's the first 2 sides of the double album. The second half addresses the consequences of that isolation, namely his imagination as it runs loose to some very dark places. This song is the first sign of unease as Pink's mind is actively searching for a way out of its isolation. It is appealing to the audience, which is us, breaking the 4th wall, as well as the imagined audience coming for the show that builds up through side 4 of the album. The overall message, which is the same through all of Pink Floyd's songs written by Waters, is don't let life's difficulties get you down. Rise to the occasion, steer your own course and don't live your life in seclusion like a certain ex-band member.
