I met David Gilmour in 1984 back stage at a concert in Hollywood Calif. He gave me a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know. All of us fortunate enough to have seen this show live were in a TRANCE.... MESMERIZED the entire show... as you can imagine. We walked out saying.... What did we just witness? That was out of this world incredible. The Red Fender Stratocaster he used for this concert in the Guitar Collector World is ....PRICELESS

What do you mean a few days? 😀
@MrPolleyr2 жыл бұрын
@@floydianepic3259 …..there are some weeks that I listen to PF everyday, several times each day. Then the are weeks when perhaps I only listen to PF once or twice a day. There are very few times in the last 3-4 years that I have gone a whole week without some Floyd. Most nights I listen to High Hopes, Comfortably Numb and On the Turning Away, as a way to wind down from the days stresses.

Never mind, guys, glad it's back!! Another fantastic song from this epic Pulse concert. You've reacted to quite a few incredible songs from this concert, for example Wish You Were Here, Run Like Hell, One of These Days and of course the awesome Comfortably Numb. This particular song is so beautiful, gives me chills and makes me feel quite emotional. There's a lot of Pink Floyd songs that have that affect on me! I remember mentioning that I would love you to react, guys, to High Hopes from this concert, that would be wonderful. Thanks so much for this reaction, it was fabulous and I enjoyed it so much as I always do. All the best and many thanks again.

David creates the most beautiful guitar riffs but what makes him so different is many guitar riffs or solos are fast and David's are slow, drawn out, and haunting.

I believe Randy Bachman said the same thing. His first instrument when he was a kid was a violin and if I’m not mistaken he said that he prefers to play slow guitar solos because of his violin background of making every note count. I’m 100% with him on that. I honestly find slower melodic guitar solos better than those fast paced ones because with fast solos, you’re basically showing off to the audience of how good you are at playing fast. But with slower, melodic solos, you feel it with the music.

Just for the record, David Gilmour sings "wish you were here" also off this album... Rodger wrote those lyrics as well. Roger wrote just about everything for Pink Floyd. That's not how they determined the vocals. I suspect Roger wanted to do lead vocals on this because he co-founded the band with Syd. Although Gilmour's voice is very prominent in the backing harmonies in the studio version. Great reaction as always boys!!

It was one of two major problems Roger had when he went solo. Gilmour can sing his parts live, but he can't sing Gilmours parts so has to get another vocalist. The second problem of course is trying to find a guitarist who plays like Dave lol

They do something really unique on the Gdansk version, I won't spoil what it is but it will send shivers down your spine :-) There's also a brilliant live acoustic version of parts 1-5 from Gilmour in 2001, and he played parts 6-7 later in the same concert. Also highly recommended!

I have seen Pink Floyd Live 4 times… I saw this same show in N.Y. 1994. The concert brochure said the stage is 120 feet wide. It takes a crew of 60 technicians three days to set up the entire lights and all. The concert schedule required that there had to be three entire crews to keep up. They leap froged each other for 92 shows with 20 Trucks per crew and a total staff of 195. The tour cost the promoters $98.MILLION to put on, but the total profit was $260 MILLION… I have seen Pink Floyd 4 times. Nick Mason’s drumming is incredible and matches Gilmour’s guitar emotions while Richard Wright takes us on a Magic Carpet Ride of tones that form the foundation of it all.

Genesis and ELO had great light shows, but Floyd took it to the next level.
