THE LYRICS ARE HERE, PEOPLE, SO PLEASE DON'T ASK!
Guys, I know this isn't the original album cover, but I think it's an amazing picture, and I believe it represents Pink Floyd's legacy and success throughout these years.
This song was posted as a tribute to Syd Barrett.
So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skys from pain.
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade
Your heros for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

I lost my little girl to uterine cancer today. I held her in my arms and she nestled her head under my cheek before her last breath. I was there for almost 12 hours with her and I told her over and over how much she's loved, how amazing she is, and how lucky we are to have had her. She felt comfortable and wasn't scared, and at that point that was all I could ask for.

This goes out to all those who can’t breathe when trying to listen to this song. This goes out to all those clutching their chest screaming into their pillow while this song plays. This one goes out to all of us that lost someone we can never get back, no matter how much we shake our fist at heaven and ask to trade. The one you wish were here may not be here, but I’m happy you’re here. Days will move on and the pain won’t go away, but you’ll learn to love and be happy again. This was my first time hearing this song without breaking down, but simply smiling at the memories. And I hope you too find that peace someday.

My Mom died at the age of 46 after suffering many years with MS. During her final years she was in the nursing home and we bought her a radio with a cd player and she'd lay in the bed and listen to Pink Floyd with her eyes closed. I always wondered what she was thinking about. This song will always be near and dear to me and I'll miss her always. My hugs and love sent to everyone that has lost someone special to them ❤️

I don't normally express my feelings on any type of media but today I my grandmother died. She was 100 years old. Some people will say she lived a long life, some will say it was it her time. I would say yes to that but it doesn't take away the pain of losing her. She was a strong and independent woman. She helped my mom when we were struggling. She helped take care of me and my brother when we were little. I kept procrastinating on going to see her and now it's to late. I spoke to her on her birthday. I'm so grateful to have been able to talk her one last time. Grandma, I will miss you. Love you always. Hope to see you one day again.

I'm sorry for the loss of your grandmother. Both of my grandmothers and one grandfather passed before I was born. I met my other grandfather once but he didn't like me and would shoo me away. 😊 I was 8 and he was 97. My dad hung himself 5 years ago... Not a hint except that he was depressed and suffering from bipolar disorder... We never saw it coming and didn't ever realise it would get so bad... Today, a cousin sent an old family snapshot of us 5 when I was about two and seeing my dad holding me I just said to myself- I so wish you were here dad..... And I am here and overwhelmed with the honest sharing taking place here, thus giving me courage to share why I am here too... Thank you to all of you for creating this space 🙇🙇🙇

@@dustymcdust5095 Thank you for being so brave and for responding (*) I respond in solidarity 🌟 and I hope you are receiving all the help for the condition. Please excuse me if I say anything not in line or irrelevant to your situation. I just completed a session an hour ago on 'Understanding suicide' and the experts there said that following treatment and medication diligently greatly helps. I realised that we had switched doctors for dad when we couldn't continue with the first one because of distance and also financial resources. The second one in the neighbourhood was not as good and we were not very strict about medication either. Dad was always the caretaker of the family and we were too ignorant I think and were not ready or aware about taking up responsibility. In fact we were just too unaware about everything. All said, I really pray that circumstances are amenable for you and that you receive consistent support. I will keep you and your health and well-being in my thoughts, stay strong please 🙇💓 and thank you again for your brave comment, means a lot 💛 Maybe I'm overdoing it but I just want to be present for others as much as I can like I couldn't be for dad (*)

@@TEM14411 Humbled by your sharing 🙇‍♀️ Thank you and sending lots of love and warmth back to you* Your words also brought a smile because mum said a similar thing just day before yesterday on call.. I'm away from her right now and we had moved out of the house after the incident to live on rent. The pandemic and its consequential repurcussions left us with no option but to go back. I was worried if the trauma would resurface for her and more so cos I couldn't be there with her myself... it's been a month since the move and just two days ago she said that he is here with us and not for a single moment did they feel anything other than at home.

The worst feeling isn't being lonely, it's being forgotten by someone you'd never forget. I'm still here, old friend. (Wow. I was a lot younger and a lot sadder when I posted this comment, never expected to get any attention let alone hit the 500 reply cap. It's only been 3 years but my outlook on life has changed so much in that time. It's wild to me and a little bit humbling that this silly requote of mine has seemingly touched quite a few people... hope everyone's able to find peace with themselves and the world, love those worth loving and let the past remain the past as much as possible. Friends come and go but if you can love yourself you'll have a friend that'll never forget you)

Just tore my guts out, I am so sorry that happened, there is not a word that can describe the hells you go through. I know it swings from tender memories that flash through your head to the sudden burning ache for them to be here now with you, and that it breaks you down sometimes when you least expect it. I know holidays too are grim reminders of how it was, I'm just saying all that so you know I have an idea, just an idea, of what you're going through. I want you to know that you will be with them again here, on the earth, when there'll be a promised resurrection. Revelation 7:9 describes those who'll be resurrected as "a great crowd that no man is able to number" at that time when they'll be joined by those who've lived through the end of the earth's old system and find themselves in that new system totally ruled by God. Rev. 20:1-6 & 21:1-4, Psalm:37:9, 10, 29, 34 & 2nd Peter 3:13 to 17 are some scriptures showing this. The Bible says God even knows the number of hairs on our heads, & we can be sure He will not forget anyone. It'd take a lot of typing to fully explain all the reasons I so strongly believe this is the truth about mankind, that one day, life on earth will return to the way God originally designed human life to be so I won't try to do that here. But before Satan invented lying & used "the lie" he told the first woman, to get her to disobey God, we would never have died had they obeyed. (God may not have foreseen that Satan would harm the human race like he did, because NO creature had ever lied until Satan did. At John 8:44 he's called "the father of the lie" you see he invented lying !! When Adam & Eve used their free choice to disobey God, and their bodies began dying that same day, God put a plan into motion to return humans to being able to live forever again one day, just as He'd designed us to. Jesus was an integral part of what had to happen for mankind to be set free from original sin's consequences. All the miracles Jesus did here were to show what the true goal & destiny was for mankind. The miracles Jesus performed gave evidence that with God's power sicknesses could be healed, the seas could be calmed, the hungry could be fed, even the dead could come back to life. God wants anyone who mourns their loved ones to know that they do have the assured prospect that they'll be with their loved ones again. Lazarus's sister Martha said to Jesus that she knew there'd be a resurrection of all "the dead at the last day", at John 11:14, so even that far back Martha knew of this resurrection that was going to come. Most religions today think the resurrection only refers to being resurrected to immediately go to heaven, and it does say 144,000 have that destination at Revelation 7:1 to 4 (& in other scriptures). But they miss the point that there's a 2nd group Jesus referred to often, and at Rev. 7:9 it is called "a great crowd which no one can number". Jesus referred to the 144,000 chosen ones as the "little flock", whereas the "great crowd" can NOT be numbered. The 144,000 go to heaven to rule over the earth, as kings with Jesus. Rev 20:6 & they rule over the great crowd, those who'll live on the earth. Matthew 5:5 "Happy are the meek for they will inherit the earth" and Psalm 37:29 says "the righteous themselves will possess the earth and reside forever upon it". You will see your loved ones again, so do your best to live right, be good to yourself and others, love Jesus, God, your fellow man and take comfort in knowing He will correct this madness one day. I'm not trying to convert you or anything, I just want you to know, they went to sleep and when they wake up you'll be able to be with them again, never to see to themdie ever again. Believe in that if you can, it can offer some comfort to your heart in that way. Know that your wife would want you to try to live the best life you can until you see her again, as you would want for her if your roles were reversed. May God lay His Love on you and heal your broken heart.

I lost my husband of 29 years 16 days ago. It hurts so bad! He loved Pink Floyd, and music in general. No final autopsy results yet, but it was his heart or an unknown brain tumor. I am 50. He was my soul mate. I have lost the kindest and funnest man. This song hits my heart. They say grief is the love you can no longer give. I'm with you all in this grief.

So true. I lost my son in 21. We played this, his favourite song at his funeral. Helpless agony.... yes that is pretty much what I'm going through. Who bargains with God to take me instead? Well I did and still do. Every logical brain cell that I have tells me " don't be ridiculous " but it's all l have. Ah sorry. The pain never ends, you just get better at dealing with it in public.

My mom and dad passed away in 2020 6 months apart from each other. They were always huge fans of Pink Floyd. When I was 13, I learned the chords to this song and I would sing it to my parents. Obviously, it isn't going to sound the best at that age, but they just really liked this song in particular. Now at 19, I play wish you were here every once in a while when I start missing my parents. It's just so crazy how something as simple as a song can have a whole different meaning because of what is happening around you.

Lost my dad on 08-29-22 i don't fully comprehend how time has gone by so quickly but it's almost been 2 years and I miss him more with every day that passes. He owned his owned his own company and I worked with him side by side for some years and every time this song would come on the radio he would turn it up and whistle the tune perfectly, singing it quietly to his humble self as he worked hard and that memory has really stuck with me 😭 now every time I this song comes on or I catch even a fleeting glimpse of it for just a nanosecond I can hear his sweet hard working voice whispering the words quietly tapping his finger to the beat and it rips my heart open like a bandaid to a bullet wound all over again. I miss you so much dad and love you more! Can't wait to hug you again someday and tell you all you've missed! Love your little spooky 💜

I just lost my Son in a single vehicle , single person wreck . He died of a head injury on the road way instantly . I showed him this song when he was a little boy . And it was a Sunday evening when he passed away , we were together the Sunday 7 days before that , and the song he played for me right before he dropped me off was this one , it was the next to the last time I saw him alive .OH HOW I WISH YOU WERE HERE , I LOVE YOU MY LIL JOE !

Hey Glyn, I am sorry for your loss and I know nothing compares to losing a child but I did lose my childhood best friend in a single car accident in June 2006 when I was twenty and 2 1/2 years later in December 2008 my cousin who was my best friend hit a tree and passed away in a single car accident also. This has always been my favorite song but the lyrics hit so close to home with me. I play this every night on my guitar and listen to it on my I-pod everyday at some point. I hope you find some kind of comfort and solace in this music and I know the pain never eases but I hope you stay strong until you are reunited someday with your son.

Father just passed away from CoVid about a week ago.... they found him Friday and I found out Friday. After 11 years I was finally able to book my plane ticket to see him in a different country in December since I was finally old enough to travel alone and the pandemic hadn’t calmed down yet this year.... I was given the opportunity to talk to him the day after my birthday on the 22nd of June of this year and we kept in contact since then until the day before he died..... Pink Floyd was always our go to... and this song was one of his favorites. Dad.... how I wish you were here... I’ll never get to hold you ever again but I’ll always know you’re close to my heart. I’ll finally be able to pick up your ashes in December once the pandemic has gotten better.... I love you. R.I.P JLCS 04/23/1957 - 07/07/2020

@@davidedeblasio1783 thank you. I wrote this post three months ago when my father passed away and of course the pain is still there. Thank you for your kind words and want to know something quite amazing? Your last name. I’m not sure if you’re aware of the pianist Raul Di Blasio, which as you see has a similar last name as you... my father taught me how to play piano as a kid and Raul Diblasio became our inspiration... I guess that’s only a small sign from him to me... thank you very much.

This song already makes me sad, now along with everyone's comments on their loved ones. It makes me absolutely depressed. Because the pain of losing a loved one is something we all share. My father told me its great to make memories but what's even better is sharing those memories with another. Those are the treasures we keep after losing someone and are the stories we tell our kids. So make those memories while you can

I lost my friend to leukemia. When I left the hospital I was going home, then her sister called to tell me she had just passed away. I had to pull over and asked my brother to drive us back the rest of the way home. When we got home, I went straight to my camper locked the doors turned up the stereo and let go. I was crying nonstop for what must've been the rest of the day. I had never cried like that for anyone else. To this day, I get choked up whenever I hear a certain song come on the radio. Each of us have our own way of mourning and or for how long. You take all the time you need, and I promise you it'll get better and easier. Just like I knew my friend, I knew she didn't want me to be sad over her, just like I feel your daughter wouldn't want you to do be sad either. I remember all the good times, memories, and special moments we shared. That's what I did to feel better and I knew she had a part in it too. My broken heart goes out to you and your family and my prayers hopefully will be answered and your sadness be less and less every day. Just like our loved ones would want us to be. God bless you and keep your daughter til the day you see her again.

I lost my grandmother on 2-17-20. She was like a mother to me, she took care of me until I turned 18 and was able to move out. Ive done many bad things and my grandmother was always able to forgive and forget. There will never be another person on this planet that was like her. She was a fighter for sure, and had a 6 month battle with septic shock and kidney failure. By the 3rd month she had been dragged through so much misery and pain, and she was very confused about everything going on around her. It was one of the most painful things Ive ever had to witness. I miss you so much Mimi and I am glad you're no longer in pain. If you have lost someone important to you, know that you are not alone and there are people who are going through the same thing. May we be granted the strength to move on from our losses

I’m 15 years old and have no clue about life, I’m still learning from my grandparents about life lessons, but I have lost very many people in my life. I have been to about 6 or 7 funerals and started to realize I need to spend more time with my nan My great grandmother ( who I call nan) is fighting cancer for the 4th time. She most likely won’t make this one and is in really bad condition at the moment, no matter how bad of a day she was having she would always let you come over and talk. She would be yelled at by family who doesn’t like her and a few years pass they come back she would invite them in and just be there for them. Never have I seen her not talk to anyone in the family that needs it, when I was little I would be in some moods and she would just try to make me feel better always. My papa is getting pretty bad as well, I just hope they go together because he would be lost without her. He would be a completely different man, they were made for each other. Been together their whole life and bought some land up on a hill and built three houses, had kids gave them the houses and they are still standing till this day. We lost almost a year without them because they lived to Florida ( my family is poor so we couldn’t afford to see them), lucky they moved back and a few years pass medics and doctor visits and they just get worse, they’re coming to their final stop, it’s just life though you love you lose and I’ve accepted she is going soon, and it comforts me that she says she’s ready to see the lord and she will be waiting for us. I’m here both and anyone of you I’m sorry for the loss of your loved ones, it’s a rough ride life gives but we power through it everyday.

Me and my father were in a motorcycle accident two years ago, a truck pulled out in front of us and we smashed into it. He passed away upon impact, I was miraculously saved and spent some time in the hospital and later recovery. He had told me on numerous occasions before his passing that if anything happened to him that he wanted me to be sure this song was played at his funeral. I made sure if it, this song was played at his funeral and later the words “wish you were here” were put on his headstone. Shortly after I learned to play this song on the guitar in his memory. Remember look out for motorcycles!
