Pino Palladino (bass), Chris "Daddy" Dave (drums), Isiah Sharkey (guitar), Robert Glasper (keys, host) play "The Line" by DeAngelo Sunday night at the 8pm show at The Blue Note Nyc. The show was absolutely incredible (of course). Pino is an absolute monster and it was amazing to see his massive hands do The Thing, Sharkey is fantastic as well and he was smiling the whole show which is great to see. Your boy can sing btw. He played a custom shop strat into a piggyback deluxe reverb and used a quad cortex to get some very interesting sounds. Chris Dave has the swing. His kit is so cool and his setup is very unique. His tone is great and matches the good light hearted energy of everyone else. Glasper is a legend and was great on the keys and great on the mic and was pretty funny. He brought up 2 of DeAngelo's vocalists to sing The Line and they killed it. DJ Jahi Sundance brought the hip hop vibes with samples and it was such a good touch.
We wen early and i sat right up on the stage and i was able to feel Pinos amp pushing air right into my face... it was nuts.
I have a bit more footage ill post over the next few days

How does Pino only play killin' lines? No matter what the genre, no matter what the gig HE NEVER MISSES. Perfect pocket. Perfect note selection. Perfect touch. Perfect phrases. Never dull, always tasty. Mile Davis of bass.

That’s classic D’Angelo right there! One of the most funkiest laid back bass lines ever made! Man I wish D’Angelo could’ve been there to sing this!

Follow it back. Check out voodoo by DeAngelo. It might not be your thing but its defiantly cool stuff if you are into groove

@@littleoceansound I know what you mean but a good dilla/questlove beat can still be done well or...less well, and some kick placements are definitely off here-especially early on.

@@littleoceansound I'm thinking I'm into groove . I've been playing bass for over 40 years and if 30 years ago a drummer would have played like that on a gig... I don't think that would have gone over too well on the bandstand and also with the dancers. LOL I get it. Different times now, I'm old. I have nothing but the highest respect for Pino and I'd love to hear more of this concert or this band
@HiCoD
@HiCoD 2 жыл бұрын
to me it just sounds like the drummer is playing it intellectually trying to recreate the original and not letting happen organically like it feels with everything questlove did. I'm a big fan of the original voodoo album though which to me marked the one last big musical revolution in regards to rhythm feel before machine time became the new paradigm and a new generation of gospel chop virtuosos made some kind of caricature out of the 'drunken' feel. Or maybe i'm just getting old... ok boomer

Is this song for or made by the drummer ? 'cuz for me like he want to drag and drawn others, luckly other band members great swimmer. I respect laidback but this is too much. Headache
