let me introduce you to the myriad of youtube videos that summarize the latest science on the Shroud of Turin - where the most important point to get right off is that the carbon 12 dating has been scientifically soundly discredited (thanks to a victorious lawsuit against the British Museum of History that has kept an embargo on the raw data for several decades, and that has also now exposed a highly likely scandal perpetrated by the museum and other parties) All the other scientific evidence builds a super solid case that the shroud is the authentic burial shroud of Jesus of Nazareth. The scientific findings on the nature of the image in the shroud is such that we today do not possess the technology to replicate the effect of what would be required to cause such an image in the linen cloth But with modern technology, computer processing methods are able to generate high quality visuals of the appearance of Jesus. These are much superior than the the image we can directly perceive on the cloth because they use 3D topological information inherent in the image (comparable to satellite imagery of the Earth) where distortions can be corrected and proper 3D fidelity achieved. We have the physical evidence of the resurrection event and we can look upon the face of Jesus. We (our generation) are in close proximity to those that lived then and walked by His side in respect to having such access to these realities.

Bart Ehrman is very likely the top ATHEISTIC biblical scholar in the world right now. Meaning, he has a deep scholarly understanding of the bible the important biblical sources. Yet he remains an ATHEIST (someone who don't believe in the existence of God or that Jesus was God.) Here's what Dr. Erhman says about the idea of the person of Jesus being a myth: "The idea that Jesus did not exist is a modern notion. It has no ancient precedents. It was made up in the eighteenth century. One might as well call it a modern myth, the myth of the mythical Jesus". I've heard Dr. Ehrman otherwise state that if someone begins a theological analysis or argument that Jesus the person didn't exist, but was a myth, then you're wasting your time arguing with that person about important theological topics relating to Jesus (I'm paraphrasing.) Jesus is likely the most thoroughly documented person that has ever lived.

It is a myth the story of jesus is plagiarism of gods before his time that also resurrected after passing and making water to wine and being the virgin son etc etc. Yall just watch zeitgeist and you will see this is nonsense. They want you to worship jewish people as a god. I used to believe in this nonsense too before but I know now its just a story re written over and over again.

Every time I hear him in any format where he gets to delve deeply (so far just small clips or long form interviews) I learn something new that helps me contextualize scripture in such a profound way, and it truly makes me learn new lessons out of the same passages and chapters that I already thought I’d gleaned every point I could. It’s amazing just how deep our Lord’s written Word truly is, it just seems like it fits His characteristics of being true and just, and infinitely wise!

A Christian is a person that comes in 5th in a race, but declares themself "the winner" because some old desert scroll says that "five" actually translates as "One." The Bible is an astounding eclectic work. Even the story of Eve and the Snake was plagiarized directly from an old Sumerian legend.

John Mark and Barnabas were Levites, and the Acts of Barnabas say Mark had been a Priest of YHWH, and Priests wore a single linen robe to serve in the Temple, and it was Passover. This all fits together well. Barnabas' Epistle reflects having access to many Priestly Writings. The sons of Light were the Pharisees, whose religion JESUS told HIS disciples to follow till the new Covenant, and the sons of darkness were the falsely socalled Saducees, who disbelieve much of the truth.

Might even just be a copy of the autograph or maybe only one or two copies removed. Be that as it may, the textual evidence for the new testament is the best of any ancient document out there.

When you study Roman culture, there are some interesting things you discover. For instance, the Roman Senate would allow private ‘Tax Farming’ companies to bid on the collection of taxes in the empire. In the case of tax collecting, the company with the HIGHEST bid would get the contract. How did these companies turn a profit? By collecting over the amount promised to Rome. There was no set tax rate, as we have today. That’s why tax collectors were so hated by the ancient world. They could confiscate what they wanted. Jesus’ call to Matthew to become a follower was indeed radical. It must have been pretty awkward when Matthew joined the group, and a tough thing for the other apostles to welcome Matthew.

1:09:00 I disagree. Not only is Judaism (in its modern form) based on the Talmud, which was finished only in the 3rd century, much later than christianity, but modern Judaism (NOT to be confused with hebrew or israelites in general), stems from the pharisees which Jesus openly rebuked as Satanists and enemies of god. Saying that Judaism is true because it stems from the same hebrew roots as christianity before the pharisees corrupted it is like saying look everyone was once an innocent child, so your crimes later don't matter. This is simply nonsense. Dr. Bergsma is an educated and well-spoken person who generally presents solid arguments and I respect him, but on this specific issue, he is just wrong.

19:25 Dr,. Bergsma] "Why is there so much pressure placed on the New Testament, why is there such a high bar that people want to place on the Bible..." The answer is very simple. If the Bible is true and authoritative you *must* radically alter your life and lifestyle. People, even most Christians, really do not want to have do that. I feel the full weight of the words I just typed, it ain't easy what God demands of us.

For Ben Shapiro who is an Orthodox Jew, I would recommend: (1) the Gospel of Matthew that was originally written for Jews in their own dialect to demonstrate that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Hebrew prophets (2) the Letter to the Hebrews that was written for Jews to demonstrate that Jesus is the fulfillment of an earlier priesthood than the Levitical, that of Melchizedek

I hold that the skeptic is simply the gullible turned inside out. One believes anything, the other disbelieves anything. Both are indifferent to proof.

25:20 Dr. Bergsma] "It's a kind of an act of humility that he pencils himself into his own painting." It was John-Mark's signature - a cameo. Authors do this all the time, not just in the Scriptures.

Yes. But a very humble one because it is not a very flattering incident.

@@xthinker88 Yes, maybe, but a formative one. I would also add that Mark was actually there, he could have been a lot of other places. At Gethsemane, all of the apostles failed. Is Christianity invalid because *all* of the apostles failed at the crucial moment? I think, no, rather the opposite, despite the naked fact that we all always fail at the crucial moment God always prevails.

I don’t think all the skepticism or criticism of the authenticity of the Bible is just because it has miracles. It’s because, if it’s true, we have to do something about it, whereas we don’t have to do anything about the Gallic Wars or Plato’s Republic if they’re authentic.

I wish someone like Bergsma would address the work of John Allegro and talk more about the dead sea scrolls. I am so sick of hearing about it on Rogan.
