Just when i thought i was happy with the ddi-sx, Pioneer has to come out with the SZ. When i bought my SX, i eventually unloaded my cdj2000 and have been wishing i hadn't. Now Pioneer stepped up and gives us the best of both worlds. Love the platters on the CDJ200's and now i will have them back. GAME CHANGER!!!!!!

The size of the platters are the same as the cdj 2000 but its the same touch sensitive platters that are on the ddj sx. I also agree that this unit is to big for regular mobile use. It won't stop me from getting one though.

I love my DDJ SX but hated that it had to work with mapping for tractor which does not function as smooth as I want it. . I love serato dj but the effects are so weak that is why I use my SX is with traktor. do you know if DZ will be available officialy with traktor? how are the new effects on DZ? any improvement? Thanks

How about a bag? Has Pioneer made a bag equivalent to the one they made for the SX? The backpack feature on that bag was money.

Denon doesn't put the hot cues on the bottom nor does Vestax, obviously you missed those. I understand layout extremely well. I would imagine for the Sync and effect DJ's having the buttons close as possible is important but for the DJ who mainly uses his ears and hands then platter and pitch control placement would still be favorable. Every controller is not one size fits all. Serato did not make the Pioneer CDJ 850 compatible with the new Serato DJ according to it's website but in the video it's connected thru the DDJ SZ in DVS mode and it works. Maybe it's midi mapped but if it's not then that would be ridiculous.

I like ddjsz sound very good play very good for the price it should but anyway I bought a lot of control board I wouldn't happy but this one right here very nice

One question, was the CDJ connected to the laptop via USB or was it connected to the mixer with a time Code CD?

i would say connected to the mixer for CD use... bit pointless connecting cdj's to a controller when you can already use the controller to control 4 decks ?

agiprodj cdjs were connected via DVS...but Serato just officially added HID for 850's too 2 weeks ago,so if you have an SX or SZ,you can control 4 decks all at once...only CDJ900 NXS is on the wait list for HID

Serato Has some great video coming out on that very soon. It will be a plug in with serato dj. I think it will be around $29 or $39 bucks for that plug-in.

Good luck with this, but if I am investing in a controller, it has to be portable like the original flagship machines. The size comparison alone was the breaking point. There's no way I would carry this unit to a gig across the country. I love the SX for that purpose and have played in many out of town gigs with it. I agree that the sound quality upgrade is a necessity and would have been great on the DDJ-SX, but that's no reason for the price to double! The colored pads and the extra effects seem amateur for digital djing. The new USB connectivity is not important unless your a venue, in which case you'd still invest in the flagship machines. I respect Pioneer and have used their units for over 10 years, but in my opinion the DDJ-SX still reigns supreme!

True about portability, but for DJs that do not fly, this is still a mobile solution.

I'd rather have the option for 2 lappys cuz the situation has come up enough times in my career to warrant it. I want to forget about the days of having to time everything right just to switch out djs live

Steven Rabulan Good point. But then you have to share your controller with everybody. Unless clubs buy these as standard, I am sure people will get agitated with there friends recking their units.

8.1" is the correct size. Same as the large format CDJs

Don't like the silver platters, kinda gaudy looking. I probably would've put the Hot Cue buttons up top just in case you accidentally hit them. So you can use the Pioneer CDJ 850 thru this but it's not compatible as a stand alone controller for Serato DJ. That's dumb!

agree about the platters but, everyone puts the hot cues on the bottom, you obviously dont understand how much they are used in a controller, would be a major inconvenience on the top....and ive never accidentally hit them once. your second statement, is quite confusing. not sure what your saying

agiprodj Thats a matter of opinion. Not saying that he NS7II is better but the DDJ-SZ doesnt have motorized platters. That is what is important to a number of DJs. Like I said it is just a matter of opinion.

I'd like your opinion on why it's not for mobile. I own a ddj-sx that I'd gig with but I'd opt for the bigger platters for better control as seen on the SZ. 22 lbs is nothing to the djm600 and cdj1000s I used to lug around in a heavy coffin.

True true, I want to get away from all that I've been lugging around 1210's 20 yrs & CDJ's for 5 more. I'm tired of that I think this will be the CDJ Killer right here. A lot of DJ's will opt out for this. Besides I have an NS6 that I carry around when I go out.. Traveling light.
