I've read that when Lovat first ordered Millin to play the pipes he refused sighting the British Army Regulations. Lovat pointed out that was the English and he and Millin were Scottish and he must therefore play the pipes! Millin was 21 and born in Canada! Many of that first wave of beret-wearing Commandos were killed mostly shot in the head, the next wave wore helmets.
