Great job the other two "drip" and "keyhole" techniques also works good if you are doing it on the actual inconel base material or any other super high chromium base metal. You guys should do a video on the metal characteristics of each base material and the technique best used for that material!!!!!! Great job guys keep it up!!!! It's great to see real welders on KZbin!!!!!!!
@rolltide29376 жыл бұрын
WeldTube you guys are doing a awesome job passing down our craft to others. I'm a second generation pipe welder and welding is the only type of work I've done my whole life. I've been a welding instructor for many of those years and teaching others is what I love to do, in my classes I teach the four root pass techniques "face feeding ,backfeeding, dripping and keyhole knowing all of them will give you the ability to weld any type of open butt weld on any base material. You guys are doing a excellent job on your demonstrations . You guys should also show how to repair internal root defects like rod chop & incomplete wall fusion by pulling it back with your tig rig or using a "Magic Wand" !!! I teach guys those techniques because not ever time are you gonna put it in perfect and if you do have a defect you need to know how to fix it!!!!!!!! Good luck man keep these great videos coming you are helping guys all over the world become better hands!!!! A student can only go as far as the instruction that's given to him/her!!!!!
@krs17326 жыл бұрын
What is it when your "dripping" your root pass?
@rolltide29376 жыл бұрын
KRS 1 when using the drip technique you place the tig wire on the edge of the bevel at the same time you point the tungsten towards the bevel. You melt away the bevel and deposit a small amount of filler material then move to the other side of the bevel and continue the same motion. This method works great on base metals that have different melting points than the filler wire. Nickel and chromium base metals are harder to weld because the filler melts before the wall of the bevel is broken down by melting the bevel wall first you’ll have less likelihood of incomplete wall fusion.
@krs17326 жыл бұрын
Is there a video showing how to do this? Kind of hard to visualize what you wrote.What I don't get is what you said about melting the bevel and depositing a small amount of filler and then move to the other side of the bevel. Do you mean you do the same thing to the other bevel by melting it also and depositing filler? You go bevel to bevel while adding filler to each side? If that the case how wide is the gap?
@rolltide29376 жыл бұрын
KRS 1 I use a 5/32 gap but depending on the size of pipe some guys use a 3/16 gap because most alloy pipe will draw and the gap will close up. Most high nickel or stainless steel wire have a fast freeze characteristic so the puddle solidifies immediately once you move to the opposite bevel edge. Also when useing bigger gaps it helps if you use a high level of purge gas pressure the internal pressure helps cool off the puddle as you deposit the root pass, that high pressure also keeps you from dripping to much metal causing excessive root penetration ,to much gas will blow your arc away but just high enough to keep the root from falling in causing a heavy drip. I haven’t seen a video demonstration of dripping on KZbin but mabe these guys will make one. It will benefit you as a professional welder to learn all the root pass techniques back feeding works great most of the time but sometimes depending on the metal dripping works 100% better.

what benefit would this have being tig welded vs stick welded? Seems like alot of time to do this tig and much less with stick.
@kelvinsudds8784 жыл бұрын
Tig welding naturally has less impurities than stick and A LOT CLEANER, more consistent and on average a much stronger weld than the stick or mig processes because of the lack of perosity, slag-inclusions, undercut and shi like that.

Welding at a flatter angle is a way to control heat, particularly with sanitary thin wall tube

My question is on how to move the torch on pipe? I can't seem to maintain my angle as I curve around pipe. Don't have problem on plate but do on pipe.. starting class tomorrow for 6g Tig cert got asme ix for smaw last qtr but I'm really struggling on Tig pipe with the curve of pipe, gets real bad on walking the cup.

What size tungsten are you running? For that heavy of a pipe I’d imagine 1/8 or bigger? I used to always run 3/32 until recently when I tried another guys set up and actually saw how much nicer 1/8 runs at higher amps.

Size of tungsten isnt anything to do with thickness of pipe dude, its related to amperage👍

hye bro i have a question, what is the different between inconel 625 and 82 bro? last time i weld on inconel 625
@johnjacobjingle83023 жыл бұрын
The simple answer is chemistry and mechanical properties.. 82 has a tensile strenght of 80k, while 625 has one around 110k.. 82 flows like mud and has a sluggish dirty puddle.. the 82 has a much higher nickel content wich requires more energy to run the puddle..(this doesnt mean more amps) just needs more time for the base metal to heat up before it flows..

Question? I'm in school now for welding.. working on 6g Tig carbon and am struggling with establishing the puddle and filler with out drowning tungsten.. ask for help and get told keep practicing.. is this an issue with my school or the normal of practice till u get it?
@willc35866 жыл бұрын
chris jones start heating the wall or bevel with the tungsten first, when you see the metal starting to liquefy start adding metal with your wire and ease it down into the bevel. Just remember be gentle when your TIG welding you don't have to force it or put a lot of pressure on the rig or the feed wire. The more relaxed you are while you're doing it including body position the better off you will be.

Great work, clear video, and on point instruction. I have a question about that silicon you mentioned. I've never welded Income but I don't think the Si is coming from the filler but maybe the Carbon Steel coupon? In the UA we take the cheap route at our school and do a bimetal test. Also as an instructor I should mention the gas lens for your purge line is a great idea, but if you leave the collet body empty the gas doesn't flow thru the lens. I take a filler rod of the same diameter and jam it in there with the ID end. Again great job.
