On our recent HVAC Check, we had 2 High Dollar Surge Protectors installed on our Outside Unit and Inside Furnace. Great Investment to Protect 15k Equipment. 👍

That surge protector is for basic systems. What is really needed for that unit is the ICM 493. If you are doing roof top units, they all should be fitted with the ICE 450.

I remember the icm 517 metal surge protection we installed. Probably still have them. If warranty is filled out and sent in on time. There was a $10k warranty, $1k per issue

speaking of them, the one that's been sitting on basement shelf next to the breaker panel for multiple months now, isn't doing me much good is it? I'll get right too it, after a storm surge cooks things 🙄 it's equal to looking at rusty brake lines and thinking I should replace them, then not doing anything until one pops.🤡🤡

Welcome to almost every home in Phoenix AZ.(dirty disgusting stystems i clean a ton but it takes it out of you seeing every call nasty) very few systems clean and maintained as it should be and owners don't want to pay.

Full disclosure, i am not an electrician; but bonding ground and neutral should only be done inside main panel, never inside sub panel or disconnect box. I wish i had code book to reference. But it something to do with stray current flowing along the ground if connected to a neutral away from main panel

at 11:30 there's a potential issue with that wiring setup. you'll likely only have a single fan speed for both heat and cool, unless the air handler takes into account having Y and G powered simultaneously, vs. just G powered(equivalent of manual fan switch on). last I looked most treat manual fan (g on) the same as (Y&G on) for cooling. maybe the hydro coil will be OK on higher speed fan, but it may blow too cool of air. then of course choosing a lower speed would slow the AC air flow possibly too low. 🤔

@@PipeDoctor that's great in AC mode, but in heating mode it has no clue beyond the return air changing the evap-coil temp unless there's an additional air or hydro-coil temp sensor out in the supply plenum. now if the air was flowing the opposite way it would know or the hydro-coil would need to be on the return side and heated before crossing the evap-coil. follow the air flow. 😝

@@PipeDoctor I get it. But if the system can handle the merv8 by not having static pressure above design specs, it keeps the coil clean along with the wheel. Most residential units are poorly designed for airflow and who uses a Manometer anymore...

The RSH 50 has alien tech built in though so don't shit on them. It has a gas discharge tube which protects the mov circuit. What that means in English is most SP have a mov circuit. If it takes enough hits it dies like bending a paper clip. The gas discharge takes the hit first protecting the mov. Not saying anything is wrong with the new one one but the RSH 50 is great product too.

@@PipeDoctor I highly recommend A product by DITEK of Largo Florida. I am a retired electrician who previously worked at a Veterans Administration Medical Center. The facility has used DITEK surge suppression devices on frequency drives for large air handling equipment. I decided to install one on my new 2.5 ton a/c condensing unit in July of 2022. The DITEK Kool Guard 2 has protected the condensing unit from damages caused by under-voltages that were caused by electrical issues at a power substation. The problems occurred earlier this month and were resolved this week. The condensing units on several homes in the community not protected were having issues associated with the under voltage situation. Nosiy and probably overheating the compressors. I thought I might have had an issue with the Kool Guard 2. I did not have power logging equipment at the time so wasn't able to capture the electrical problems.The manufacturer was nice enough to send me another unit even though they expected it to be a power company issue. The Kool Guard 2 also protects against surges from lightning storms.

The craziest part of this video, is everyone he installed or the way he installs hvac equipment is looked at as overkill. As a tech who been in a few companies they always care for in and out fast money. Customers themselves don’t care for quality work either.

I don't think there is overkill just things done according to code and in a workmanship like manner. It's a same there appears to be so many code violations in the places I have seen on this channel that Pipe Doctor corrects.
