Safety glasses my friend, I learned that lesson the hard way. The fan on the Sawzall blew cast iron shavings into both of my eyes, had to have them scraped clean at the emergency room, patches for 2 days. No hub torque wrench is set at 60 inch pounds,it is a question on the florida plumbing test. Finally,I've had great luck with Diablo AUTOMOTIVE DEMOLITION blades. Start with grinder, finish with Sawzall. Great video!

My house is 44 years old, My pipe going to the septic tank is cast.. I dug it up to verify location before I installed my pool.... Long story short, Im going to replace this pipe before it becomes a problem in the next few years. Funny I was just searching cast iron pipes and your video popped up from a service call today.. But Im proactive I get to stuff before it becomes an issue.. Thats just how I do things.

Great video Mike, I just took out my entire waste castiron pipe out to my septic and replaced it with ABS. The second floor rotted completely out,. The first floor sink was sloped to the sink so 75 years of crap it was plugged solid. I know ABS is noisy I am doing some work to dampen the sound. It took me 8 recip. blade to cut out 40 feet of cast iron. That stuff sucks to cut as I found out. The pipe through the wall was starting to get some pin holes on the outside, wasn't leaking though.

9:42 you’re using a regular Diablo metal cutting blade. They also make an extreme metal blade which has more aggressive carbide teeth. That’s what you really needed for cutting that cast. Look into those I PROMISE you’re life will be the easiest it’s ever been as far as cutting cast iron. I’m talking can cut through 4 inch in 45-50 seconds

Agreed. Cardinal rule of plumbing: “never put a tee on its back”. Any competent plumber knows that. Use a longgggg sweep wye. And those DIABLO blades are pure junk. Bring a 25 pack of LENNOX 8-10 R blades. Used them for years for cutting cast. Blade gets dull put in a new one. Charge ‘em up to the job. Saving time is everything. Learn Mikey.
