We just spent $2000 dollars to replace our wing roots after we had our plane painted. 2 days after having our plane back the gasket has "fallen" out. They cut the gasket and just glued it on.

That’s absolutely disgusting. Not only that they did it completely wrong, but that they charged you &2000 for a $200 part… Hope your paint doesn’t start to peel as well. Sounds like a terrible paint shop.

Check with an A&P but I don’t think it would be a good idea. Without it you’re letting a lot of wind and potentially moisture inside of the wing and the wing spar. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks!

Great video. For the door seals… did you use both seals? The one from aircraft spruce and the 3m product? I didn’t see you apply the aircraft spruce product to the airframe. Clarification on that would be great. Keep up the good work!

The door seal from aircraft spruce goes on the door… that’s it. It’s one or the other. The previous owner removed the old original from the door and put the 3M like product on the door frame instead. That’s a cheaper option and a little easier but not as good of a seal. So I removed the stuff from the frame, and then installed the correct seal on the door itself. Hope that clarifies it. The 3M stuff in the tube is used to adhere the seal to the door. You run a bead of it around the door and then press the seal into it.

Don’t be surprised if the door is a little hard to close at first. After it sits closed for a while it should be fine. Also, if after a while the top latch is still hard to close you may need to adjust it a little.. it’s very easy…. Posted a short video on that. Is there a good place to start and end? I figured just not on the top being that it could potentially be a weak spot to allow rain in. Just concerned at the point where the 2 ends meet. Just subscribed! You are always so kind in answering my questions. Thinking about replacing the windlace too now that I know what it is called (thanks to you).

I started at the top trailing edge, worked it forward, then back under ending at the bottom trailing edge. I think you could start from either end though. I just decided to do it that way so I could leave the end that is cut for any excess on the bottom. Thank you!

What kind of glue did you use? Great video! Just got a new to me Warrior II and needing to redo the root seal.

Congratulations on the purchase! That’s great! It’s the same 3M adhesive that I used in the video for the door seal. There’s a picture of the box in the video. You really only need it on like the last inch or so at the trailing edges. Once you press this into the gap it doesn’t move. Thanks so much for watching!

I am days away from completion. Is there any type of seal between the inner and outer latch on the top of the door? Prior to this renovation I noticed some water on the right side. I’m replacing the seal and wind lace, but still concerned about the potential of leaks. I saw a video that showed 2 neoprene washers on both sides of the other latch, but in the diagram I found I only see one on the outside. I don’t think it will hurt to put one on the inside too…

I don’t have any additional insight on that one, but as long as the mechanism functions with the second washer, I would think it couldn’t hurt either. Congratulations on nearing the end!
