I am not as driven as you. I played the trumpet till I got old enough to join the local fire department(15 years old). There I was driven. Rose to the rank of Chief. Also Paramedic and Emergency Diver. Expanded to become a Registered Nurse. I was playing the Bugle to play TAPS. I wanted to learn the pipes but never had good use of all the fingers, just three. I came down with nonalcoholic liver disease looking for a donor. I have no wind to play the Bugle and am to exhausted to continue teaching EMS. I Do love the pipes and you are fantastic! Keep playing I do enjoy your work.

I never heard of bagpipe competitions...that's not a sport, it's like judging art. Mrs. Mosart, please collaborate with Belle Sisoski...I want to dance to bagpipes and the only instrument I know might be the "Sitar". It's got strings. How many? I bet it's less than 10

I want to let you know how much I enjoy your music. I have been a percussionist with my local Pipe Band for over 40 years and love listening your music. I started my musical journey in elementary school on the trumpet and played brass instruments through college. After college I missed being part of a band and started going to watch/listen to a local Pipe Band practice. They decided I was showing up more often than some of their members and suggested I play a Tenor drum. I've been playing drums with them ever since. Tenor, Side, and Bass ever since.

Thanks for a great introspective into your choice to play bagpipes Ally. I've played guitar for 52 years and currently am an independently produced instrumental surf artist. However this month, February 2023, I decided it was time to fulfill a long time dream of learning to play bagpipes. So, new McCallum Long poly practice chanter in hand, I started working through the green book. I do have a tutor who plays with a local pipe and drum band. It was fresh to hear your story! And seeing you are going on tour I hope to catch your show one day! Ann Arbor and Chicago are about equidistant from where I live in Michigan Upper Peninsula. But still a long travel. But I'm sure you'll tour again and so I'll keep my eyes peeled for when that happens. Until then keep up the awesome piping skills! You rock!

Bagpipes are so cool. As someone hyperfixated in ancient history, I learned that the Bagpipes are originally from ancient Egypt. They have thousands of years of history and have been basically the same since their creation. Merchants took them to Europe, and the Romans spread them to Scotland. As someone with hEDS, I feel your pain. I also have weak lungs due to EDS, so all reed and brass instruments were off the table. I got to take piano lessons, so for a 9 year old, having a new substitute teacher each time really killed piano for me. Especially since most of them knew nothing about piano. I do regret not sticking with it and trying other string instruments such as harp and any of the chinese string instruments. My hypermobility isn't as bad as yours, but it's there.
@darrellm9915
@darrellm9915 Жыл бұрын
There's speculations on whether or not they were from Egypt, Turkey, or Southern Europe, but they have definitely not been the same since their creation. There are numerous different variations of Bagpipes that are not the same. The Scottish Great Highland pipe sounds nothing like Egyptian and Middle Eastern pipes, which is a good example. It also looks very different just like most of variations found across the world. So even though they were influenced by other people, the Scots perfected it by inventing their own version, which makes it completely unique to them of course.

Whatever the reason, it's a great joy to hear and see you playing. Every Sunday when we were just young ones, our parents took us to the band Rotonda to see the bands that played there. Both Pipe and Brass bands, but it was the pipe bands I liked the most. My Dad served in the Scottish Regiment of the NZ Army. They paraded in kilts, but pulled regular duty wearing both short pants khakis in the summer and serving in the Pacific and long pants in the New Zealand winter. A full Scots regalia is a wonderful sight and the pipes inspiring. Our Mothers family are originaly from Dunedin and ex-Edinburgh Scotland. They emmigrated to Dunedin (Edinburgh of the South) New Zealands fouth largest city in Otago Province, nestled around the harbor on Te Wai Ponamu, in te reo Maori now the South Island. and the name given by the colonisers. Kia Ora Mai.

First of all I gotta say it's somehow really fitting that your name is Ally Crowley, the fact your first and last names rhyme just totally fits your personality. I enjoyed this video a great deal and I have to tell you I traveled a similar road except that I'm Mexican so after trying a few different instruments I wound up on an accordion for a few years playing some Mexican folk music, a little polka , and some standards. What I discovered was I really liked the keys , the rest of the instrument not so much lol so I ditched my accordion and became a keyboard player. Unfortunately I got way too into the 80s and I haven't played since then. Anyways I luv your videos keep up the good work , always keep the music in your heart.

Hi Ally I found you on the local news channel. I think Channel 10 with Metallica backing you up with bagpipes playing Metal a while back. Glad to see a young person involved with this type of instrument. I was in my 50s when I was relearning to play snare drum at Celtic Hall at that time was in East Greenbush but unfortunately I really didn't have time to practice because of life. I'm now retired (not by choice) and now taught myself guitar and play with some friends out at different places like nursing homes. I also play on my worship team at my church. I have in the past work the sound board for different local rock and country bands. You just keep living your dream and go for it 100 % Keep rocking girl and you are going to go places in your life !!!

Producing every possible kind of instruments, apart from organs and delivering worldwide especially in europe and the US. For example 40% off ALL brass instruments in the world where produced here in these days or 70% of bows for string instruments. Ally Girl, the pipes are an instrument of a unique juxtaposition. People either love them or hate them with few in the middle. They are also an instrument of great difficulty, so few stick with them unless they have a love for them. I have been piping for 50 years now. In my youth, like you, I entered every competition that was available. Now, I sit by the lake on warm days and pipe to the tree's, fishes, and critters in the woods. They seem to enjoy it, even my cattle come to listen. Happy piping my friend, may the pipes bring you only joy and peace.

My stepdad is a Duncan! I never got into the bagpipes however. He plays them. 😊 Saxophone and guitar are my mains haha. I've always considered myself to be strongest with the clarinet. I wrote a few songs on the piano later on in life, but hated it as a kid. I learned how to fix instruments in college. I seem to spend more time finishing basements and building my little house out of trailers on a farm these days. I do play saxophone in church regularly. I wish I had a way to share my music with you... I can't seem to find the time to copyright my songs, so I don't put them up. Thank you for the music that you share. You are amazing!!! If you do want me to look at any of your instruments other than the bagpipes and you're anywhere near Toronto, look me up. I'll tune you up free of charge. Just most people that post there are only there to inflate their own broken self esteem and stroke their ego. You post excellent music, and your adaptations of well know songs to bagpipes is amazing. What you don’t post is nudes, duck lips with your breast nearly popping out, etc…. Even though from some of your sarcastic clips, it seems some perverts have asked you to expose yourself rather than your musical talent. I was gifted bagpipes years ago from a friend (who has since passed away). She found the pipes in her mother's closet, and has no clue where they came from (as the bag has the Stuart tartan I suspect her mother played in the Springfield (Missouri) High School Kilties all girl pipe and drum corps (now Central High). Anyway I have yet to learn to play as life has gotten in the way, but my daughter (8) has watched your videos and has interest, so perhaps we'll learn together. I too played clarinet growing up, I even had my grandfather's metal clarinet restored. I really don't play much anymore though (again life), but my daughter has said she wants to learn, so we'll be getting into that next year at school. I'm very proud of my Scottish heritage (many many clans through my paternal grandmother's side), and I wear my kilt any chance I get. Cheers!

As the son of a musician (casual not professional) I admire and appreciate your talent as a musician. My dad could play anything you put in front him, with enough practice that is. He could also sing like a bird. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the musical gene like my dad did. But he did instill in me an appreciation for music and how to break it down in terms of composition. The only instrument he didn’t get to learn was the bagpipes, but he wanted to. Sadly, his health prevented him from adding that talent to his repertoire. One of my earliest memories was of hearing bagpipes and drums playing and of course my dad was the drummer for his unit. I applaud you for your skills and passion, keep going Ally. You will always have my respect and support.

To me nothing beats the sound of a pipe and drum band. Being a kid raised in the NYC area I found that love listening to the NYC Fire Department emerald society pipes and drums. Ian sure you have heard of them. Keep up the good work. I enjoy watching your posts.

I started to learn piano as well. Started teaching myself around 12 years old and kept going. Also played saxophone. Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Baritone. Best at tenor.

so happy to see you play and that you enjoy it so much.. my dad and i (back mid-60s) used to listen to my bagpipe LPs when nobody else was at home and we both loved the music (i have no skill at playing or singing), but my youngest two girls both played sousaphone in HS band. i used to be able to touch my little finger all the way on the back of my hand, but it would gross people out...lol

Glad to see and hear a young and talented piper. I tried to get my daughter to play (We're MacFarlanes) but she, unfortunately, tends to prefer the cello. Would love to hear you play with a set of Red Pipes.

Polyphonic Ally... :) Would love to know how to start learning to play Bagpipes. I said on your previous video (How Bagpipes work...) that I have a somewhat ancient chanter that was handed down through my family but I can only play it by ear. I have decades of contemporary and classical training, theory and practical, so playing by ear works, but I would much rather KNOW how to play. :) Keep it up and I wish you all the best in the future! Break a leg!

Hi Ally, I too from an early age loved allo things music and played piano, guitar, trombone, keyboards and of course the chanter ! Ive always wanted to get better on the chanter, however, i can hold a tune and play by ear. I would love to play the pipes but the price of a good set of pipes would be around £400+ and the family expenses come first ! Maybe this year I can squirrel the money away and buy a set for Christmas ! Love the channel xx Ady

It's wild to me someone not having crossed paths with the pipes until they were 12. My small town had them playing all the time, every Santa Claus Parade both in town and in Toronto had multiple pipe bands. They've just always been a soundscape in my world. The moment the weather was warm, you could hear them drifting over the town every weekend if your window was open.

I think bagpipes make perfect sense personally. When I was a little boy in the 90s it was the only instrument that could make me feel such strong emotions. They could make me cry out of nowhere, I could be happy but the beautiful sound of the bagpipes can always bring tears to my eyes.

Hey Ally, Good for you. You put your mind to something and don't stop till you conquer it. Only if all children had goals set as you did and do. Your a hell of an influence and great example of what you can achieve if you put your mind to it. Another thing Ally, if you ever get board with the bagpipes, which I'm sure you won't, you could try modeling. Your very beautiful and your eyes could melt the north pole. Anyway, love you, your channel and videos. Take care and be safe.

Very nice 🙂. Glad you were able to follow your dreams. Music is definitely a crowded field and though there are many... talented musicians, making a living at it is tuff. As my son really found out, after like you, graduating from NC School of Arts, he was all ready for a career in music. Writing songs was his love and desire, but after sending demo's to California producers, was told he was too romantic with his writings, but wanted to know who the lead singer was. It wasn't him.😥. So that pretty much shot an arrow thru his heart. He does still play violin and acoustic bass in church groups etc, but that's his story. So keep up your playing and little skits on the tube. Having the strong desire sometimes pays off. Onward and upward. But being happy at what you do is better than all the praise, in the long run.

I love the bagpipes :) makes my Scottish heritage proud and you are great. Love it. I tried learning a bit when a kid too, but didn't stick with it or piano or anything really enough for music lol as much as I love instruments. Sucks my chanter broke :(

They have these new things meant to teach guitar that fits over the strings you may want to check out if you have any interest still in learning guitar. I had issues with the trumpet as well, my lips would swell up after playing. So I went to guitar, never tried the bagpipes but always loved them.

Another intriguing video Miss Crowley~Duncan! I did not know how epically talented you've become. For good reason. As much as i love the sound and history of bagpipes, I'm half Scottish/Ukrainian. I will get my hands on your sound track for the great bagpipes but I'm a huge fan of the sax...eg RnR Rick Braun and Richard Elliott. That being said I've NEVER experienced an epic female trumpeter...eg Can you feel it. Rick Braun. Cheers!
