Telstra used to be telecom in the 1990s (a government owned corporation) and before that postmaster general in the pre-1970s (a government department) but our corrupt politicans just HAD to privatise it and make sure that people could gamble on it's stock prices. thanks John Howard.

Back in 1990 I took some classes in law, and I was horrified to discover that buying computer software, that came sealed in a box, required that the buyer contract to take that software as is, with no option to return it or sue for damages if it didn't work or installation borked your system. Would you buy a new car if you couldn't return it to the dealer when the brakes failed driving it home because of a manufacturer defect? If you wanted that software, you had to pay for it regardless whether it worked or not. That's just wrong, on so many levels!

Thank you for your thoughts and for standing up so strongly for consumer protection in the USA. Here in Germany (EU), we have a very sophisticated and comprehensive consumer protection system that largely shields us from the greed and recklessness of unscrupulous corporations. Sure, we have our own problems, and plenty of them, but what’s happening over there leaves me speechless. I hope you can, through solidarity and other measures, make these companies rethink their actions. It’s often the managers of these companies who are the "root of all evil," caring little for their customers and more for the next bonus and short-term appeasement of shareholders. In the long run, this harms everyone, including the shareholders.

About 2 years ago, I got fed up with my favorite shows hopping from streaming service to service. I had a decent DVD collection still, so I looked for a way to make it easy to watch (I know, a bit late to the party) I found Plex. I found an old DVD-R that my wife had from an old Dell laptop. And I set out to rip our entire collection. I bought a Blu Ray ripper and ripped our Blu Rays. Then I decided 4K was cool too, so I bought a UHD ripper Now, I have physical copies of most of our favorite movies, and I have a digital backup (3-2-1, of course) that I can access any time from my server. So when Disney announced they were shutting down Disney Movie Club next Monday, we waited until the last minute when they dropped prices on everything there, and we bought a year's worth of all the streaming services subscriptions cost of content Now I'm ripping dozens of new shows and movies that they can't take away from me anymore because it "wasn't profitable enough"

Haha thats very similar to how I started ripping all my stuff and making my own plex. The first was battlestar galatica kept leaving streaming so I get the box set but it was killing me to track and change discs well watching (lots of discs lol). But what made me go full in was stargate sg1, after I started collecting and adding that I just started getting everything I could off ebay so I wouldnt have to play the "where is it streaming now?" game or getting partly through something then its no longer on streaming anywhere.

@@mromutt We have all the Stargate DVD boxes. I hope to set up my own server. I'm not sure about Plex because they have to be all up in your business about what you have. They might be telling the government about what you "own" versus what they think you actually bought at a store. I might just hook up a small PC to the TV and just scroll through folder listings, or I might create a personal local webpage to list everything complete with photos.
