Looking from the film perspective - the mission is waste of time and money. They capture pirates but have to release them They capture suspected boat (it's almost clear that it is a pirate boat) but as there are no "official" evidences - again have to release them (even to provide some help/support) So almost all "pirate hunt" missions ends with releasing of suspected (or fail in other words). What is the reason of the mission then?? Only to show how humane we are?...

When there are patrolling ships, people don't be pirates that easily. It has an effect on their mind before starting, that oh, the chances that I will rob a ship are smaller since there are armed patrol ships that can easily prevent it. That time is off from doing something else that can help you get your living. So it makes more people choose another way of getting food to the table. Also these patrol ships take your weapons and ladders etc. away so that you have to return to shore and get those back from somewhere, and you lose time. All in all this makes it harder to be a pirate and thus makes it so that there are less pirates and safer waters :)

@@charonstyxferryman that's exactly what i mean - as it is impossible to do something else there is no reason for such mission. And i would not absolutely agree with the point that patrooling ships make difficulties for pirates. On one hand yes, but on the other - if you are pirate, and you see a patrool ship and you know that it cannot do anything to you you became braver. I dont think that the realeased pirates think: "oh no, what a shame, i'm so bad, i will never do this again". Instead, they think: "ha ha - what a stupid patrools they are, it would be goog to steal some fuel or veapons of that ship..." :) I know about presumption of unguilty (it is so not only in Denmark ;) ). I just want to say that such missions are no good - they show weakness

nope Denmark just dont have drones :) we brought some back in 2004, then used 2 years to try and get them to work, realized we couldt - and then sold them to canada, who made them fly within weeks :) //Fact!

Danish navy "kommandørkaptajn". he has since been promoted (and well deserved too) to flotilla admiral (2021) in charge of security at sea in the bay of Aden. I don't think it was very smart to include the footage of how they feel about situations where there are children on board the suspect ships. That makes it more of a ' how to ' training video for the Somalian pirates. ( They have cell phones and access to the Internet. At least the planners do). Why waste time & supplies on every boat? Pretty easy to tell a pirate from a fishing boat. That fishing boat wasn’t sending out a distress call, leave it alone! All they got was trouble.

They're very far out at sea for fishing boats. That's suspicious, since any of the merchant ships could accidentally run them down, so many fishermen just don't go out that far. Uncommon, but it happens. And if you find a boat at sea in trouble, you HAVE to help, by international law, even if you're not a military ship on a NATO operation.

That's mostly just movies. Besides, like Workshop said, no need to yell at someone if they can understand you proper without it. It's hard on the soldier AND the officer. Nordic military is 100% volunteers who are professional, career soldiers. You don't need to yell at someone who did their absolute best to get as far as they have. That's why you see them correct the guy who snapped when the motor almost went in the water.
