It's important to remember that Calypso is literally the sea. So Davy Jones loved the sea, and the sea loved him back. Until it didn't. When Davy Jones gets mad at Calypso for "betraying" him, she basically says, "Mf, I'm the SEA! What did you expect?"

If they stop doing that job, they will look like Davy Jones and his crew... Remember, Davy Jones was doing this job approximately 10 years .. This it´s a phenomenal movie, with a total rollercoaster at the end. Some facts: - I think that Norrington it´s a very underrated character. In his best or his fallen, his behaviour was always like a real MAN. That final redemption, leaving Elizabeth and the rest the chance to escape, honors him. And of course he loved her in all moment, and deserved that final kiss. - Jack´s father it´s Keith Richards, the guitarist of the legendary Rolling Stones.

Yes Johnny depp actually based his portrayal of sparrow on Keith Richards so getting him to play his dad in part 3 was a genius move cause he only had to play himself and it would feel familiar like jack and explain the resemblance instantly. Also really shows off Johnny's acting skills that he mirrored him so well you saw it right away

Now that Jack mentioned “survival” when talking to his dad, I can finally talk about this: Jack Sparrow’s journey is all about cheating death and becoming, at best, immortal. The aztec gold curse was a bust because of the side effects and the davy jones thing was also a semi bust because he’d have a duty and wont be free, and also he decided to save Will’s life than becoming immortal, so Jack’s search continues.

I feel like the advice that Jacks dad gave him did have a positive effect on him. His dad mentions it not about living forever but living with yourself. Then at the end of this film we see him in a small boat sailing the seas with a bottle of rum and adventure on the horizom a stark contrast to the beginning of the first film where he was seen in a small boat but eagerly seeking the black pearl.

You're right, the film IS fantastic. Back when it was released, people were rather meh on it. Everyone said 'it's too convoluted'. But the backstabbin' middle part does make perfect sense if you check all character motivations and goals. It's just really dense storytelling. Maybe too dense? I don't care. I love how every character gets their moments to shine, and do something relevant to the story. So many great arcs, be they big (Elizabeth, Will, Bootstrap Bill), medium-sized (Norrington, Barbossa, Davy Jones) or small (comedy relief side characters).

This is my favourite pirates film. Most like the first which is understandable. But this film was so bold and so ambitious. The direction is perfect. The comedy is well framed and timed. The history is interesting - they include some actual pirates in here great that they had Keith Richards be Jack’s dad. And good villains make a good story… with Davy Jones and Barbossa we had it good, but Beckett and the EI Trading company were the real world villains… and the performance is fantastic in so many on the nose and nuanced ways. We were SO spoiled as kids… we had HP, LOTR and this… it was incredible!

This was my favorite one, I love Jack's goofy side but I also love his strategic and intelligent side. The story thru all 3 has been amazing. Jack's father is the keeper of the Code I believe. Fun fact: when Depp designed Jack Sparrow he took part of his inspiration from Keith Richards, so when they decided to have Jack's Dad in this one, they got Keith Richards to play him. Full circle sort of feel. There are books that give some filler content on the adventures of Jack Sparrow, plus a ton of bloopers/ deleted scenes from the movies. Like a famous one: The reason Jack was branded a pirate. He was originally working for the East India Trading Company, just a small job for a young man to get out on the sea. Until he found out the cargo was slaves. He freed them, but it cost him the ship and his good name. The ship became the Black Pearl and he took the name Jack Sparrow. A deleted scene between him and Cutler Beckett was when Becket told him off for stealing his cargo and Jack says "People aren't cargo mate". It is also why Davy Jones says Jack's soul is worth 100 souls. The 100 he saved, and why all those people mourned his death in the swamp. So many good details that those who hunt for them know and make the story better.

Yes please do the last two films! They might not be the best, but they are worth the good laughs. The tragic love story between Calypso and Davy Jones has always been my favorite lore in POTC. When Calypso says “It’s my nature.”, She is saying that she was wild and unpredictable as the sea. It’s possible on the one day after 10 years, she could’ve been with Davy Jones in her sea form instead of the human form that he wanted. “Malfaiteur en Tombeau, Crochir l’Esplanade, Dans l’Fond d’l’eau!”, the phrase Calypso yells out when she is freed from her bonds, roughly translates to “Across all the seas, find the path to he who wrongfully entombed me!". Also in the original Greek myth, Calypso is a sea nymph who is the daughter of the Titan Atlas. When the Titans lost the war against the Greek gods, she was punished for siding with her dad. Because she supported him in the war so the gods punished/cursed her that she would have to stay in Ogygia forever. Also Calypso’s real symbol was a dolphin not a crab. They did that because the crab is an octopus’ prey. 🏴‍☠️⚔️💣🐬🦀🌊🐙

My favorite detail of the trilogy is the ghost story of Dead Man's Chest; when Elizabeth hides on the merchant vessel and the crew finds her wedding dress, one of them sailors spins the tale that the dress belongs to a bride who became widowed before her wedding night; and then in At World's End, this tale becomes true; Elizabeth and Will are finally wed but he dies... and they consume their marriage afterwards

Also I find it interesting when people are surprised about Calypso's identity; in Dead Man's Chest, shortly before Tia Dalma speaks of Calypso, Jack has made his payment and just like in The Curse Of The Black Pearl he proceeds to steal from her; and there we see the crab pendant that turns out to be a music box; later we see that Davy Jones has seemingly the same music box; now we might have assumed that Tia Dalma had merely collected it like the other magical trinkets she posseses and sells, but the easier assumption was that she is Calypso in human form

In all the reactions I've seen of this movie, you're the first folks to mention that Jack took some shots while talking to Beckett and performed that escape from his ship. 🥰 Was it not rum he drank? Semantics. He did catch a buzz before that move. 😋

There's a movie that i LOVE called "Extremelly Loud And Incredibly Close", there's no reactions of it on KZbin, and that's sad cause is one of the most emotional drama movie i've ever watched! The characters are SO good and charismatic, played by the actors Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock and John Goodman! It's one of my favorite movies EVER, u need to watch PLEASE

I think my personal favorite was the second film. Something about the mystery about Davy Jones/The Deadman's Chest, and then the Lovecraftian horror of the Kraken really hit for me. It feeds into my thalassophobia, and why I'll never go into the open ocean. 😆The special effects for the Kraken scenes were all so good too.

I agree with the sentiment, however nobody ever acknowledges that’s not what the guns are being used for. They’re being used to kill our country’s own citizens. Not upon those who seek to take freedoms away. (NOT ADVOCATING FOR RANDOM VIOLENCE AGAINST ANY SPECIFIC POLITICIANS)

2:50 Very close, but the 'Fate Intervening' was actually about Will 😉 Calypso says the same thing when she meets Will, 'Their is an air of destiny around you', and again when they see the souls pass.... 'A touch of fate..' I'm not sure if she could completely see the future but she is certainly omnipresent and has some sort of future sight ability and was able to see the strands of fate that lead Will to a new greater purpose. That's why she was so 'affectionate' when she met him, he was her new DaveyqJones

I think Jones is so furious at Calypso being set free because, much like him being trapped to sail the sea forever, she was imprisoned in a human form with limited magic. Not to mention the love/hate relationship.

To my understanding, I think he felt betrayed, because she told him to unalive the Brethren Court for capturing her. However, she must have changed her mind when Will told her that it was Davy Jones who showed the first Brethren Court how to bind her. She basically created the Malstrom and watched them destroying each other

IMO the Saga ends here. They kinda went full circle with Elizabeth and Will being kind of together. And Jack always up to something but still chasing his own Ship.

The song at the beginning, _Hoist the Colors,_ was written for the movie to tell the tale of Calypso, Jones, and the Court. Below is my analysis. *The Chorus:* _Yo ho, haul together_ _Hoist the colors high_ _Heave ho, thieves and beggars_ _Never shall we die_ The chorus is sung numerous times within the song. It's basically telling the pirates, full of thieves and beggers, to get ready to set sail. The lyrics here are obvious in meaning. *First verse:* _The King and his men_ _stole the Queen from her bed_ _and bound her in her bones_ The King was the Pirate King at that time, and while his identity is unknown, I believe him to be Jones himself (my little theory). The King's men refers to the Brethren Court. The Queen is Calypso, her bed is the sea, and binding her in her bones refers to binding her to her human form. _the seas be ours and by the powers_ _where we will we'll roam_ The seas literally belong to the pirates due to having power over Calypso. *Second verse:* _Now some have died_ _and some are alive_ _and others sail on sea_ This is a reference to the chorus of the song, which mention the pirates as thieves and beggars. This part of the verse is obvious in meaning. _with the keys to the cage_ _and the Devil to pay_ The "keys" to the cage are the nine Pieces of Eight, which were used to bind Calypso. The Devil refers to Davy Jones himself since he's the one that told the Brethren Court how to bind her; he's also a devil of sorts, or what I like to call, an ocean-bound Hades. _we lay to Fiddler's Green._ Fiddler's Green is an after-life of paradise for sailors where a fiddle never stops playing, but in the POTC universe, it is a tavern located in Davy Jones' locker. It might have a fiddle playing inside to fit the narrative. *Third verse:* _The bell has been raised_ _From it's watery grave..._ _Do you hear it's sepulchral tone?_ _A call to all_ _Pay head the squall_ _And turn your sails to home!_ This entire verse may refer to the scene of POTC where the pirates sing their song, and the Brethren Court is summoned to join together. A "all pirates unite" type of moment.

really been enjoying seeing you guys watching this trilogy! sidenote: it didn't make sense for Jack to become captain of the Dutchman. Jack saw the Pearl as freedom. Jack wants freedom and to live forever. As cap of the Duthman, you're only free 1 day for 10 years.

The sword that Will made for Norrington in the First Movie, where everyone comments on its quality, comes back around. Norrington stabs Jones with it, who then comments on its quality before killing off Norrington. Jones then stabs Will with it at the end here. Presumably, Will now carries that sword.
