It's fun watching people react to seeing Davy Jones for the first time and be amazed by the CGI. Funny thing is that this movie is nearly 2 decades old and the visual effects still hold up fantastically even to today.

The legend of sailor folclore about "Davy Jones's locker" is an old metaphore and to "find it" means to find death in ocean's deeps. Davy Jones is a name of uncertain origin, possibly originating from "ghost of Jonah" (=Yunus, being devoured by a whale).

I love the scene where Davy Jones tries to scare people with their last judgement to take his deal and the religious guy tells the other one not to listen to him and says he takes his chances.

I remember reading a small behind-the-scenes once about that toe necklace Jack wears. It's actually made from gelatin colored and designed to look like toes. Not that I'd want to do that as a party trick....

Some real history. Tortuga, an island north of Haiti, was the home base of the French pirates. Port Royal, on the coast of Jamaica, was the home base of the English pirates. A great book to read about the real pirates of the Caribbean, including Captain Morgan, is called Empire Of Blue Water.

Highly recommend watching the end of the credits, there’s a segment at the end of each credits that gives some context. As for the one who gave spoilers: WHY?! 😫😭😤

FUN FACTS: The East Indian Company was a real trading company owned by the British during that time period. And many of the pirates in these movies are based on REAL pirates!

My favorite scene in the movie is the liar's dice game, Will actually plays 2 games in an extended cut with Davy Jones, Will wins the first one, of course losing the second one which thats the scene in the movie

The real jack was actually a british sailor named Jack Ward who later in his life converted to islam and left to be a pirate in the mediterranian sea with the barbary pirates.

Opening scene, are British navy ships flying the flag with the logo of the "Hounorable East India Corporation". The FIRST publicly traded Corporation in the world. The only difference between pirates or "privateers" and the East India is that the Queen gave the Captain an official letter of mark to steal ill-gotten goods from the colonies the British Empire occupied.
