Most PMCs will just get off the ship and wait in international waters until the ship finishes unloading and comes to pick them up(if they don't already have the permits to enter port)

Given the pirates have to close distance, wouldn't a shotgun with high velocity bird or 00 be more effective than a rifle? Shotgun more people globally (or maybe just America) people would take to faster or be more familiar with. I remember a doc explaining how WW2 AA gunners were trained to do their duty with shotguns. Only reason a shotgun comes to mind is because of the scattering at distance. It's like Bill Burr Said, even if a guy breaking into your house gets hit with a .22, he at least has to go outside and regroup. Bird or buck shot at range might not kill you if you catch one but you were still shot in the middle of the sea.

@@Whatisright shotguns are great for up close, but if the pirates have ak47s shooting 762 rounds and you have a shotgun, you're going to be in range for them far sooner than they would be in range for you. the m4 has an effective firing range of 500 meters, and the AK has an EFR of 350 meters. add to that the height and cover advantage the crew would have, and they should be able to tear those boats up.

Seems with the right planning ahead of time they’d have a lot of trouble getting back off if the crew had shotguns. Or if rifles are the best option, an M21 or some heavy caliber semi. Don’t have the same rate of fire but you wouldn’t be shooting to suppress if you know what I mean.

Or have someone hold and spray the hose directly at them, provided they get to the location right before the pirates do AND the pirates are within the water's reach, because I realize you can only spray water so far. If they are getting sprayed by what I would think are high pressure hoses, it would be hard for the pirates to use their guns while someone else could unhook the ladder and bring the ladder up onto the ship so they can't retrieve it.

They have no clear angle on the top of the ladder since they are so close to the Cargo ship, you can litterally hold the top of the ladder because the one climbing can't climb with his gun pointing. you can throw something without being hit by his mates down there. The High ground is always the safest option for you to hold the enemy line.

@@GeoBGO Just because they don't have clear line of sight doesn't mean they can't shoot you, especially if they notice the ladder is being messed with and pull away to get a line of sight. Not to mention if one of them jumps on the ladder while the person is trying to get it off it's going to be much harder if not impossible to get it off in time because of the added weight of an adult weighing it down. And by that point it's too late for the person fumbling with the ladder to get to safety, the pirates will be up the ladder before they can even make it halfway back to deck. And at that point worst case scenario is the ladder guy gets shot in the back and killed, best case they are taken hostage which is explicitly what the captain wanted to avoid in the first place.
