For all we know the laws of physics are semistable and neutrinos can interact with matter under certain conditions that we have yet to understand. I never realized just how silly the premise was for this movie. A quantum physicist claims that a particle, a fundamental aspect of our reality, has mutated so that when it passes through stuff, it starts heating them. First and foremost, as far as science is concerned, the only particles that change themselves are quantum in origin and that’s just not how it even works. Second of all, the neutrino is stated to be heating up the earths core, meaning that, the neutrinos are carrying that heat the moment they hit our planet. Our surface should’ve been fried before the core started overheating. In order for it to cook the planets core it would also need to be carrying a non-significant amount of energy, which allows it to pass through the earth without losing too much energy. That amount of energy for a particle is absurd. Again, it would just devastate the surface before we even noticed its effects underground. Just another instance of people throwing “quantum” at a problem in writing to get the plot rolling

The most unbelievable part of this movie isn't the fact that neutrinos are suddenly physically affecting stuff. Its that somehow the combined governments of the US, Europe, and China were working on this project for three years and they managed to keep it a secret from the public until just days before it hit the fan. That would leak within months. The sudden funneling of funds and personnel couldn't be hidden. Also sidenote, if they just told the public, they could have pooled the entire global economy into it and built thousands of ships instead of just a few. They could have saved millions.
