Parasitic lost is something a lot of people don't take into consideration or doesn't even know that it's a thing that exists when it comes to engines. Glad you're bringing more light to this topic, good job as always

"Going too tight on clearances such as piston-to-valve, piston-to-head, piston-to-wall, and main and rod bearings will kill you every time," says Darin. "On the other hand, there are no drawbacks to being too loose except for a little more oil up top as bearing and side clearances increase. That can be counteracted pretty easily so it's not a big issue". 🍻

@@findtherightbeat definitely a good quote from the man himself aka Darin!!!!! another tidbit to add -why running too tight everyone would know? Oh that’s cuz either you’re slow or you blew up 😂 Pertaining to “Run it loose and only you will know, run it tight and everyone will know”

I asked if scrub the surface of the cylinder head affects the ignition timing?
@SRDmotorsports
@SRDmotorsports 5 ай бұрын
really depends and it must be a controlled test to know if it affects it or not much… It’s been a known “claim”

@rezakurniawan2779 @SRDmotorsports someone once told me a shiny cylinder head and piston crown makes an engine more detonation prone, is there any truth to this? Is this one reason why some pistons have a coating on them?
@SRDmotorsports
@SRDmotorsports 5 ай бұрын
@@Mike-ry4tiwell depends on shiny but if it’s smooth enough to not have any hot spot then it def promotes less detonation I mean forged pistons are all machined shiny but they were designed for performance so it performs… The coating is more of a heat shield barrier

SO BRO HOW TIGHT IS TIGHT? WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR ENGINE BUILD HOW TIGHT YOU DO FOR COMPRESSION RINGS? 😊
@SRDmotorsports
@SRDmotorsports 5 ай бұрын
NEVER TIGHT as nobody ever said tight rings was good I still wonder who said that lol Notice… even on stock bore we still have it honed before running new rings that’s looser than it was before 😂 The old red hatch I did the vid here had over 0.018” top ring clearance but still cranked up over 300psi So whoever started this idea of tight is better? Lmfaooo

Hi! I want to ask you something. I with my friend building b18c4 engine. We set te gap on 1st ring at 0.0016 inch and thanks to you we know thats will be good. But we aren't sure about 2nd ring gap because we have about 0.0027 inch per ring. We didn't set up the gap. Just checked it straight from the box and we are a little bit confused. That gaps will be good or this is propably too much? We will be grateful for some advices :D Our b18c4 cylinder size is 81.25mm

@SRDmotorsports 4 ай бұрын
Yeah the second ring gap is a little on the loose side but it should be fine and no problem as long as the bore is straight then you are safe Good luck!

Heres a question brother, Blow by: how much is too much and what is an accurate way to measure it?
@SRDmotorsports
@SRDmotorsports 5 ай бұрын
interesting question! actually on measuring it? Kinda hard to tell or see but one can prolly device a contraption that can measure crankcase pressure “on average” like average out the bounce spikes and then get a reading off a freshly new built engine and get a reading off a well worn out high mileage motor for reference But then the high mileage motor also have to have a less than ideal comp reading cuz if the comp reading is all equal and good then we know the blowby is at a minimum But nice question! Makes me think now if we can ever come up with a contraption If you got time? Check Total Seal Rings channel whenever they dyno test an engine they also have a floating table tennis ball contraption that they use to read and reference blowby But they prolly also have a baseline. Reading of an engine with zero to no blowby to have a “standard”
@Mike-ry4ti
@Mike-ry4ti 5 ай бұрын
@SRDmotorsports awesome, thanks for that, we might be on to something here, such as an ideal compression for a specific engine vs blow by velocity... I wish I listened during maths class back in school! I got back to Japan from Australia recently and have had some time to look at my current B16A2, I did notice quite alot of blow by so I'll run a compression test tomorrow and report back... BTW, have you been to Puerto Galera? I went once back in 1995, I'm well overdue for a visit again!
