That 4th quarter final score can easily be the first-half score in today's NBA.

Tayshaun Prince was a far better defender than Melo could ever dream of. Which fit who the 2004 Pistons were. A defensive minded, team first unit.

Do people really overestimate Melo's value this much? He was a selfish, ball dominant scorer who doesn't play defense from the day he entered the league. And Melo fans think he was going to fit into the selfess, defensive minded Pistons team? LMAO.

Also, having three point snipers all around makes it hard to double and help as aggressively as the 04 pistons. They'll just get shot down by snipers.

@@sherwinpoh5684 yeah and the fact that steph curry made people want to shoot way more threes and it kinda killed off the big man until recently there were a lot of factors besides the fans the nba was the one who wanted the pace to go back to the 80s where they averaged only 2 points less then today

If this Pistons team has 1 more dominant scorer, I'd pick them to beat the Warriors. But the scorer has to be dominant cuz you're not getting offense from anywhere else

Great question bro. I would have to say the defense the 04 Pistons, but as far as toughest teams to play? It has to be the bad boys, HOF’ers everywhere, iconic team. Reggie was a none factor in those days.

There's one thing modern players definitely have over those from previous generations. Today's players definitely can handle and shoot the ball at an incredible rate, from positions 1 through 5. The skillset is constantly innovating and evolving. But one thing they absolutely do not have is defensive IQ. Very few teams are able to properly perform triple or even quadruple rotations, or even get leave themselves vulnerable on the first rotation, but only for the help helper to clean up around the rim. Today's players can't even guard 1v1, although credit to the on-ball skill level being at an all-time high. However, the fundamentals just aren't there anymore. They cheat way too much and then try to bail themselves out by reaching around the back to try and back-tap the ball to a teammate. They take themselves out of position for a secondary rotation and it's honestly frustrating to watch. For me, Draymond Green for the Warriors from 2015-2019 was a treat to watch. His defensive IQ was gaps ahead his peers and the way he would QB the Warriors' rotations defensively was just a masterclass on most nights. Jarrett Allen is another guy who, IMO, doesn't get enough respect defensively. His movement defensively, for someone his height, as a help defender, is often smooth. He's definitely a throwback where he ends up being the guy having to clean up at the rim when the rotations get triggered and the ball ends up at the low block or a baseline drive/dunker position. He always challenges at the rim and never cares about being postered or caught in a viral video highlight that may travel the internet (unlike 80% of big men nowadays).

going under the screen would NEVER work in today's game against Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and KD Warriors. Curry would constantly shoot from half-court forcing the pistons to double at half court then Klay and KD would be Wide open

This is why the rules got changed. Nobody wanted to watch this. It's awful basketball. in six games, a team only scored 80 or more points THREE TIMES in that series. It wasn't great defense, it was exploitation of the rules and crappy basketball.

What? Bro no one wants to see everyone act like the warriors are unbeatable...all you have to do is okay actual defense....like this and you can make the game more diverse in match ups and not every team tries to learn run and gun...before when Phoenix did it no one valued it but the warriors got the team that could run and gun and now no one plays defense so it's easy to see why they out run people but that's less fun than teams actually knowing the opponent and matching up and having to work for points and fg percentages.....this was the grind game...this is also why the east was strong but once the league changed to shooting focus the east died..the best defensive teams are all dead eastern conference teams today...the league killed it's own diversity...the east had the Celtics the pistons and the bulls...the pacers the nets and the knicks were always good too but these teams played major defense....the rules change and these teams died because everyone can't rely on shooting
