Pit Boss 1100 Broken - Part 1

Well everyone the pit boss 1100 broke down on me.......the fuse went out and it would not turn back on....after a few hours finally got an answer that it was the fuse.......replaced the fuse....and it turned back on....and then came to find your the heating element was also out.....did contact them on twitter and the heating element is being shipped.....so good on them.,......

I had to replace my auger motor..glad you shown me the fuse..I will buy some just incase..I also have a Shepherd his name is General as he thinks he is the boss

I ended up swapping my controller out with a RecTec PID...huge improvement. I also replaced the stock power cord with a 10ft, 15A max power cord. Much more convenient than the 5 foot cord it came with. Lol

Got a new issue come up to be fixed once Pit Boss gets it to me.....think its the reason the fuse and the igniter both died.

get an ohm meter. unplug the ignitor plug. using your ohm meter put red prob on one of the two ignitor wires and the black prob on the other ignitor wire from the ignitor. If you get an ohms reading then the ignitor is good. If you have a fused controller board check the fuss. If its good you have a faulty controller board. Good luck.

Think it was the control board with the short in it that caused the heat rod to burn out and then it blew the fuse......the heat rod was staying on constant any time it was plugged in even with out the power turned on, on the pit boss......found that out not long after......

You got to get yourself a heavier extension cord. My friend had the same exact problem he bought a cheap extension cord that couldn't provide the amperage that the grill required in return it would blow the fuse regularly.

The main control board had a short and caused all the problems.......

@@pounder35 in the end......yes I had to replace the control board, it had a short that caused the heating element to burn out and for the fuse to blow.

Today was my first day to try out the pit-boss. Absolutely horrible! Followed the directions in the book. Turned it up to 475 as instructed. The temp never went past 115 degrees, but smoke was pouring out of every opening, then after about 10 min. it exploded and blew the lid open. Tried to call customer service after 30 min. on hold gave. Going back to Tregar if I can get rid of this thing.

Yea....they are sending me a new heating rod to replace the broken one.....just make sure to go to their web site and get your smoker registered.

How has support been to deal with? Im ready to pull the trigger on this grill or something similar but a few things are holding me back. Im seeing reviews on lowes.com about paint peeling and less than great response from their support team and also the grates cracking and taking 5 - 6 weeks to ship out for replacement.

Would check the control board.......put in the new fuse and plug it up to power, but don't turn it on.....and check the heating element to see if it's getting red hot......mine was first the fuse, then the heating element, then the control board, but after everything the control board was the problem.....if still under warranty would contact pit boss and try to get a new board, I found it easiest to contact them on twitter......
