Pit Boss makes griddles with pre-seasoned steel tops, so that's "one up" on the others, since you have to season them. Is anyone even making decent propane griddles with cast iron tops any more?

My concern is over the years especially if you are making Philly cheesesteaks and other food where you chop it in the griddle you are going to crack the ceramic top. With the blackstone that costs the same mine came with the lid and use it the same way. Also came with 2 air fryers and a warming drawer. On the blackstone order matters when I am cooking something sticky like eggs I cook my meat first and use the oil from that. The lift off feature is nice but I am not cooking like that camping most of it is over the fire.

Hey Brother. I thank you for your video on the PB Ultimate. I just bought my first griddle tonight - the PBU 4 burner (shipping pending.) Your video confirms to me that this is a great starter choice for a griddling. I can take it camping, UTV riding, or just in the bed of the truck. The rolled steel units require cleaning and reasoning every time. I'd rather enjoy feeling satiated, from all my work and cooking, then spend the next umteen minutes on cleaning and seasoning the unit itself.

How is the pit boss holding up? I saw another video where they did a 150 cooks and the top was worn out even though they never used metal utensils and followed the correct cleaning procedures. I have a 28" Blackstone and at the end of the first year we got a lot of rain and I constantly had to fight rust and season it. Now I place the griddle top in a heavy duty garbage bag and bring it in. Since doing this I haven't needed to reseason and is a joy to cook on.

Our local Walmart still has the 36" Blackstone with the metal cover for $297. That's what I paid for ours and we love it. The Pit Boss is very impressive but I'm not a fan of ceramic / teflon coatings as they don't last very long and then there's the health concerns. Either way I will say that cooking on a griddle is a way more fun than a grill.

Good question. I do most of my indoor cooking in cast iron and stainless steel. I still use silicone utensils. I don't do any chopping in my cookware. It buggers the finish. I use my cookware (indoors and out) for cooking -- not for a lot of chopping, whacking pseudo-showmanship. I have cutting boards for all my cutting. When the cutting boards get wonky, I throw them away and buy more. I never have cut marks, scrapes, or gouges in / on my cookware.

ALSO -- REMEMBER -- - The Pitboss surface is not 100% ceramic (does not conduct heat and weighs a ton) It is rolled steel coated with a ceramic non-stick surface. Ceramic coatings lifespan is about 1-3 years. High heat is not a friend of any coating, it is recommended low to medium heat cooking to prevent damage.. Chipping can also be an issue. Hopefully, they are using lead-free ceramic coating I am sure they are if it's not coming from China. And MAKE SURE you NEVER use any METAL UTENSILS, scrubbing pads, cooking spray, abrasive cleaners, on the ceramic. Proper care is essential to prevent chipping from occurring; As with any ceramic cookware, if chipping has begun, you will need to STOP USING the cookware for food preparations immediately.. Ceramic non-stick surfaces are good to prevent sticking, but not as non-stick as you think, not as good as Teflon coating. If you could buy new surfaces "reasonably" every few years I might consider one. Maybe you can , I don't know. Also - Compairing it to THAT no hooded low-end Blackstone was kind of deceptive.

Can you use metal utensils on the pit boss?
@ColtLuger6 ай бұрын
The idea of lifting the Pit Boss up and taking it with you is almost enough of a bonus to go for it, however, my brother has one and I have a rolled steel top and I get a way better sear on my smash burgers. One other note, if you're not cooking your eggs in butter you ain't cooking eggs 😉.

if the "Pit Boss" ceramic cook top is anything like what my ceramic pan, I prefer the Blackstone. My ceramic pan did not last long at all.

I would like to know taste comparison. Is their a difference in taste non stick vs steel?

The bummer is it's not available locally to my area so they raised the price and everyone that does ship is charging $100+ for shipping. Might have to wait for it to come to more local retailers. Nice grill though.

Nice comparison but the but the bottom shelf on the Pit Boss is a pain with the wire right in front . The Blackstone comes with a lid . If you are going to compare do one with the same features your video seemed biased to me . Clean up is not that bad on the Blackstone as well .

Great review, but you didn't speak at all about cooking utensils. I noticed you used a traditional, large, spatula on the Blackstone and a smaller, silicon spatula on the Pitboss. I've heard the metal cooking tools can really mess up the ceramic (non stick) surface. Is that true and a problem? If so, can you recommend some decent silicon products. I like to use the larger spatulas, tongs, etc when grilling and when it comes to the silicon versions they often seem flimsy or too flexible to me. I also like to chop some veggies on the grill while cooking like onions and peppers when making cheese steaks (like I see them do in my favorite sub shop or like a hibachi chef might do at a restaurant). Is this going to mess up the non stick?

How about comparing with a cook on both at the same time to compare sear ability, flavor etc of say a steak. I'm partial to Blackstone where you get awesome sear and great flavor. I find non stick surfaces dont produce as good as cast iron or steel for flavor on steaks, hamburgers and chicken. The Sierra though I would think would do great for pancakes, grilled cheese, potatoes, veggies and other dishes that work great on a non stick pan or indoor electric griddle. my .02.

Nice comparison Andrew but already owning 3 Blackstones I stick with what I have. Especially my travel 28” that folds up and is portable.

Yeah but you also said you would never get a pellet smoker and look how that worked out. LoL 😂 Thanks for watching Kent! You taught me how to season my first griddle! 🍻

I would love to see u use metal Utensils with that pit boss griddle Let’s see how long that fancy top last after that that was a great Comparison video but the pit boss is overpriced and won’t last heavy use I’m afraid of other than that looks like a great set up
@brandonwilliams24312 жыл бұрын
That depends on what you consider heavy use. I don't think the average person would wear one out in 10 years or better
@rlfs28532 жыл бұрын
Yeah you simply use plastic utensils then. Big deal 😂
@jblb226412 жыл бұрын
Why don’t you get the black stone griddle with the lid and garage bag holder like I have, just need to look at the options, some come with lid and some don’t so I use my lid same as your pit boss, bad comparison on your part
@GrillSergeant2 жыл бұрын
It’s what I could find locally for around the same price. The biggest difference that I tried to convey in the video was the ceramic coated top was the game changer compared to the rolled steel.
