I feel like every time film makers talk about "subverting expectations" they only manage to subvert the expectation that the movie was going to be good.

Really loved your reaction to this one :) Personally, I liked the movie. It showed a human side (weaknesses) of him we didn't see in other movies. To me the Mandarin plot was fun. I have never read any Marvel books/cartoons, so I don't know who that vilain should have been, but to me it made place to hilarious moments (when he dozed off and came back shouting for the football team) :'D

Ben Kingsley killed it, I just wanted him to really be the MCU's Mandarin, LOL!! I also agree with you, how Tony was portrayed in this one made him more relatable and humanized him.

As for the pitch meeting, I love how writer-guy uses one of my most hated tactics: when someone complains, "why didn't they...?" and "what's the reason for...?" he empathizes and agrees with them by saying, "I know, right!" and "there better be a good reason!" as if the blame is someone elses... but YOU ARE THE WRITER! You... are... "THEY!!!!" It's so obnoxious when it happens in real life, but so funny when Ryan does it! As for the movie, I didn't care for it much either, but I enjoyed how they humanized Iron Man. Aside from having one of the stronger sets of powers among the Avengers, one thing that was really advantageous of the character is how he could turn his superpowers on and off with the click of a button, basically able to switch from normal human to superhero at will. Others like Thor are permanently stuck in their superhero form, and others like Hulk have no control over their switch from human to superhero, and often have it happen against their will and to their own detriment.

I love your analysis of Tony in this film. I feel like they tried to do this with Bkack Widow and Hawkeye, but it was most effective with Tony in this film and Endgame.
@mr.stuffdoer84833 жыл бұрын
TBF it’s actually kinda on Producer Guy in this context because he wouldn’t let them use the budget they’d need for all the other actors; making solo movies after Avengers is hard. He even makes this point in the Winter Soldier pitch meeting.

Tbh the "subverting of expeexpectations" part didn't bother me, my issues with that movie is that the b plot of Tony having PTSD is way more interesting than whatever the villain was doing I do understand the thing with the mandarin pissing people off tho, if I remember well (wich I don't) they had set up the mandarin in another movie
@OnMyMindEntertainment4 жыл бұрын
He should be showing up in the Shang Chi film I believe. The only thing i liked from this film was how they made Tony a little more relatable. His PTSD was a realistic after effect from what he experienced and it was interesting to see that side.

The one thing I can't stand about people's take away from this movie, is people SWEARING that Tony was retiring, he literally said he was gonna cut back and then he blew the suits cause it was Christmas and he needed to be rid of the obsession part of it... between Iron Man 1 and Avengers, he was up to Mk.7, between Avengers and Iron Man 3, he was up to Mk.42 (and that was literally the next movie).... but never did he say he was giving it up entirely ...not that I'm saying that you said that lol
@OnMyMindEntertainment3 жыл бұрын
🤣😂 It was odd though that the very next time we see him he has made a slew of Iron Bots to protect the world. But honestly I didn't believe him when he said that in Iron Man 3. He consistently showed that he wasn't going to keep to his word.
@MegaRayland4 жыл бұрын
Gotta remember at the time of Iron Man 3 it wasn’t clear if RDJ would sign a new contract to keep playing the role, reason why the ending of the movie is partially worked as a conclusion to the character if he didn’t come back. But it also looks jarring in how it fits within the rest of the movies.

Very true!! It seemed like the events if this movie didn't have any effect on the character later on. Mainly his whole declaration to Pepper by destroying all of his suits.

Picture this..it's late night, a bunch of Hollywood power people had waaay to much to drink and someones suggests a strange bet. They're feeling no matter what they can't lose. It's high risk with tons of money and possible careers on the line but they're going for it. First they have to pick a money making super hero. Once that's done they fill a big bowl with dozens of disjointed plots points, tropes and action scenes written on strips of cocktail napkins, reach in and grab a huge handful. Whatever was grabbed will have to be incorporated into the movie. The bait and switch...one strip one.The super secret creation of IM3. I think the actor brought so much personality to the character that they wanted to play it up as much as possible. The fans love Stark even when he's not in action. Because he's so popular for himself this would be the character they may have felt most comfortable with if they wanted to delve into adding humanity to a super hero movie. Emotional depth in action super movies often seems forced and rushed or something we've seen over and over like Batman's issue with his parents being killed in front of him. There so many glaring problems with Stark's actions though. His behavior is bizarre and beneath the character they created. A super genius acting like a super idiot? They could have figured out a better way to vulnerable and show his inner strength for at least one fight scene.Blowing up all the suits? Yes has more money the some countries and apparently he can whip one together while waiting for his coffee to brew but that didn't make sense. More along the "This shows how rich and cool I am" action. Another problem with these types of movies is how casually they come up with something like being able to regrow limbs and then it disappears as though it was never discovered. Sure, there were serious problems but once known there would be non stop research to make it workable. I'm not even going to go into how easy it is to make super heroes with awesome powers. If this was reality you know by now they'd be selling "Pick A Power" or "Choose You Mutation" at Walmart.
@OnMyMindEntertainment4 жыл бұрын
"Pick a Power" 🤣😂🤣😂 Have you seen Power on Netflix? I agree with you, the different plot points that come up rarely make another appearance in future movies.

@@OnMyMindEntertainment Honestly, I liked the movie but it could’ve been SO MUCH better! I think Ryan captured the problem perfectly when the writer guy says “It doesn’t matter if they like it. The point is that I subverted their expectations” That sentiment plagues a lot of movies these days... and TV shows. Terminator: Dark Fate and the 8th season of Game of Thrones as two of too much examples.

I also saw this in the theater and left disappointed. It wasn't until a few years later that I realized why I didn't like it. This was the first time I realized the hero was a weak man and a woman had to swoop in to save the day. Now that's the Hollywood formula.

I immediate wished to forget this dumpster fire of a movie when I finished watching it, and for the most part I succeed. I didn't even remember that the actor Guy Pierce was in this, but like always Pitch Meetings makes it fun to watch horrible movies. As a kid I used to read Marvel comics, but I've been disappointed with the Marvel films. I'd say only 5 of them were GREAT, and re-watchable. Two were good, and a whole lot of "Meh" money grabs. Easter eggs and references to past and future films can only get you so far.

I did not like IM3! I didn't even see the midcredit scene as I walked out of the theater as soon as the movie ended. It was not good. They gave Pepper super powers, literally, and then nothing happened as a result. With great power comes great ability to ignore it when it's convenient? There was absolutely nothing from the movie that had any consequence in the MCU -- Iron Patriot was a one and done gun, for example. Where was he in Infinity War? Where was Pepper? How were she and Tony able to have a child given what happened to Pepper's body? Does the daughter have untapped powers now? I did like the pitch meeting though!

Two things I really didn't like about this one were: A) The Iron Man suits seemed like they were downright fragile and B) Mandarin is one of my FAVE classic villains and they absolutely butchered him in this movie! I did love that they played on Tony's ingenuity by having him build weapons out of stuff he bought at a hardware store. BUT, I know it's a small town but there's NO WAY TONY STARK goes shopping in an Ace Hardware and NO ONE recognizes him, LOL!
