Hi Murdoch, Sunrise on the golf course, such a great place to be. You could probably teach a full semester course on wedges. What's your thoughts on face control and release on those midrange scoring shots? Also have you experimented with side spin, cutter or hook spin? Typically I have a Steve Sticker type swing image in my head with quiet hands and a square to square face. Great for 130 in (9-G). Our competitive season just finished up here but there are still rounds to be had. Cheers! 😎👍

@@jefflucas6062 good questions Jeff. Basically, depending on how often you play and your standard will answer these. On the 80/20 rule, committed and trapped contact should produce a decent hip rotation (for most) that will give a straighter flight.. quieter hands. A cut spin thought is better that drawing the lofted irons. You always want soft flight and stopping quickly. The more you play, the more feel you can add 👍🏼

@@murdochmcewangolfI prefer the trap feel too but I tend to get steep and poppy at the bottom over time for some reason eventually leading to a terrible chunk on the most getable shot (it's a funny game). Generally I have to recalibrate this shot every so often by feeling the bounce strike under the ball with a softer flight. Yes, a slight cut spin is stock, aiming at the left side of the down-in-one ring and allowing the ball to move toward the pin but not cross it. Hook spin is a useful specialty shot to have if you need to run out a bit or have a sloped green that will roll back. I can only think of using it twice this year.

@@jefflucas6062 going on percentages, I’d not worry about playing the ‘hooking’ running wedge.. this takes quite a bit of feel to pull off (evening for a great player). If you can still get the miss hit poor strike, then focus on that for sure. Think ‘ dragging’ through impact, with open hips.. this will keep the arms moving and the trap shallow. Consider a nine iron or first wedge right down the handle to replace the hooking PW. 👍🏼

I seemed to get the physical feeling, just watching and listening. I do exactly what you said, stance and grip like my 7-iron. But wedges are not about power. They are about accuracy. I'll narrow my stance, grip down a little, and take some practice swings to rehearse the clock position for that shot. I do already have a matrix of distances for my clock positions, but I think the two adjustments you mentioned are right, and I'll incorporate them. Thanks!

@@76MUTiger let me know how you get on! (Try the three practices swings approach I talk about.. each one improves on the last, so finally one most committed. The the 4th is the ball swing 👍🏼

I feel about 65% on the lead foot for consistent wedge compression and accuracy. Great vid.
