I absolutely agree with this message. The cert courses are DEFINITELY worth it, not just for the knowledge but for the pay! It makes you stand out amongst other job candidates but most importantly (to me) you are taken on at a higher pay-scale. This has been my experience at any rate. Even with NO on-the-job experience I was hired at a higher pay scale because the CAPM was the most convincing factor, along with my transferrable skills AND my college courses that were aligned with project management. But above all, they wanted to know that I, at minimum, was familiar with the terms, principles and frameworks - the cert said enough. Along with me asking questions specific to my potential position. I was offered the position almost immediately. With NO experience. Just make sure, if you're in the US, the course is PMI certified to qualify for the exam (and to be better served). I have every intention of taking the PMP exam and also becoming Agile and SCRUM certified. One step at a time.

The Mom Project is also a free way to get into the Coursera PM cert. They give scholarships! That’s how I did mine. I didn’t pay for anything! Not even the digital certification itself. Also, the PMI PM Fundamentals Kickoff are free!

Just finished the Google Project Management certification last night🎉🎉🎉 i am just happy & proud i look this leap. I finished in 2 weeks - but that was with hard work & me cutting off everything until i finished ! Lol. Time for Scrum & CAPM 🥂

Oh okay. I gusss it depends on what your goals are. Yeah there are analyst roles in the project management field, like a project analysts. Or you would be a business analyst who works across projects

I am currently taking the PRINCE2 , and I absolutely agree with your points. The course is answering the Why, How and when for project management , and this is the fundamentals for excelling in a PM job.

In my opinion I don't think its worth it. Most pms get certificates once they have a job since the company offers to pay for it and they don't standout in a resume since employers only care about experience. But I do agree that the knowledge you gain from studying a course offers a baseline

Hey, thanks for the comment :) So all in all they are still worth it! Whether you get them before or after you get a job. For many people now, in this saturated market, it’s hard to get a role without a cert under your belt (if you are a beginner). I do agree that recruiters value experience over certification, but if you’re trying to break into PM with no experience, then they may look at other areas. It depends on where you are in your PM journey. This being said, I always encourage people to try to without a cert. I did, but it’s not everyone’s story!

Hey congrats on passing your foundation. If I’m honest LinkedIn is still my preferred site or applying directly to companies I would like to work for As for tips lol I did it donkey years ago! From what I remember just make sure you really read the question and apply the theory

I did the google project management course for 7 days and cancelled my free trial. I genuinely enjoyed the course, it was interesting and had so much valuable info, but the required peer review assignment caught me by suprise and turned me off. From my understanding of what it required. To do an assignment and then give some other person who is as green as me in project management the power to give me a passing grade was almost offensive 😂😂😂 I mean, how do u know this person even knows wth they’re talking about to grade my work, and what if they’re having a bad day and just schlep thru it and don’t care about the work you are putting in and they fail u and you have to do it all again???. And then I have to do the same for someone else, then you sit around waiting up to 7-10 days for someone to give a grade to /someone to grade you? Wow what a waste of time. Im thinking thats why the course usually takes 6 months because of it weren’t for the peer review making it unattractive, I could have finished in about 2 weeks and I am brand new to project management. And its not that im a genius, the course is super interesting and very interactive/user friendly. It was great, but I will say there were aspects that made it seem geared more toward googles company work perspective. Now im taking PMI’s Project Management Ready Course which honestly, isnt as pretty as googles course but its 100% facts/work. It has projects but no peer review mess. Just a good amount of reading/vocab/interactive quizzes and case studies. Its about 99.00 flat fee for the PMI course. With google corsera it was 49.00 per month after the free trial, but that adds up to way more if it takes you 6 months to complete cuz you’re sitting around for some rookie same as u to grade/submit some projects and your waiting for some work to show up 😂❤

The peer reviews are very fast and easy, they’re just working off a yes/no did you include all the information on the document. I haven’t had one take more than an hour to be graded.

Hey! I don’t really give recommendations, just point out the options for you to make the best decision for you really. Firstly depends on the style of projects you’ll be delivering (waterfall vs agile) , if you have prior experience and what country you’re in. Google project management cert, prince 2 agile pm and Capm are good ones for beginners

Hey. There are no guarantees for either of the certs. But both certs are designed to give you a better chance at having a successful pm career. Also in general I wouldn’t compare the 2 certs, google pm cert is open to everyone regardless of experience. Pmp has pre-requisites

Can’t answer that for you. But these days. Your degree may just not be enough to get into a project manager role straight away. I would say all the time . Depending on what industry you wonna go into

A cert, and depending what level you want to start at a good demonstration of the transferable skills required for the job. Obviously have of a degree and a cert is not a must. You just might find it harder to get your foot into the door without either

Hey I don’t have much of an opinion here, however I’ve always said once you have a 1st degree, not much point getting a second, I think there is more value in just doing additional certs . Hope that helps
