Interesting to know the East Beast is basically a one-oscillator SV-1. The SV-1 is a classic, one of those synths that's so fun to experiment with, that an hour will pass before you know it.

Are we ever going to get a firmware update for the West Pest, to let it play below MIDI note 24, from a keyboard that sends that as the lowest note possible? I seem to remember Starsky pointing out the need for that to them. My Yamaha CBX-K1 and Reface keyboards both do that, so it's probably quite common. The West Pest can play that range, but only from its built in mini keyboard.

Did Cre8audio/Pittsburgh ever sort out the shitty MIDI implementation on the West Pest and East Beast? Did they ever manage to fix that in the firmware? I REALLY like the sound of the West Pest but it just wouldn't work with my keystep pro, circuit tracks or Oxygen8.

​@Mister Scoops With pretty much all MIDI controllers, there's no note-off leading to chronic note-hanging. With the Keystep Pro, there's limited note range (wont play the bottom two octaves). There's some other bugs but those are the most severe.

@@dinogoldie9716 Did you try firmware version 0.9? My West Pest had that problem on arrival, and updating it to that fixed the Note Off problem for the keyboards I use - a Yamaha Reface CS and a Yamaha CBX-K1. Someone I spoke to in the comments said it didn't work for them, so apologies if that was you - I've forgotten who said it. v0.9 doesn't fix the low end range though. A lot of keyboards send MIDI note 24 as a minimum, including both of the Yamaha ones I've mentioned. The West Pest can't transpose that down to cover its actual range, yet. I've just checked, and 0.9 is still the latest version available.

I like when synths do stabby (short) sounds that are "wobbly". I find that the range one has (on the TAL-Noisemaker) to get such sounds is rather small (may very well be due to me not really knowing what I do with synths - yet). I was able to get some, but it took me time and I felt like the "sweetspot"-area was rather slim. Are there synths that specialize on short yet "wobbly" or "funky" sounds and thus have a "wider range" of sweetspots for such sounds?

I love the "Two Tribes" reference , Mr Starsky. Epic. I'm wanting to get one of these really badly. What is your thoughts of The Taiga vs the OpSix/West Pest/Q Swarm.

Whoa that’s a big question. I’ve never played with the Q Swarm. The opsix obviously has the advantages of everything digital, editor, patch memories etc. but if the opsix west pest and taiga were put in a table and I could only pick one it would be the Taiga without hesitation.

@@tg4896 yes it’s got the same dynamics processor and the same or at least similar wavefolding oscillators. Just bypass the filter and ignore the 2 other oscillators and you’ve got yourself a WP near as..
