We got a remote group together with ‪@pittsburghmodular‬ Richard Nicol and Michael Johnsen, ‪@GazWilliams‬ and editor Nick to take a look and have a chat about the new Taiga module.
Its kind of a Pittsburgh Modular greatest hits, with three complex waveshaping and warping oscillators, a 2-pole multimode filter, plus a Low Pass Gate together with the resonance control.
It draws from their range of previous modules including the SV-1, Voltage Research Lab and Capt Big O.
There's a couple of envelopes, a mixer section with drive, noise, LFO and digital functions like S+H, plus a lot of patch-ability.

This is a very good presentation. The three way style is both variable and informative, a good idea.

Great to see four nerds chatting about this great sounding instrument! It would be great to have other free form chats with other designers with Gaz helping out.

Gaz has a chance to hold some wood again, lol. Sorry couldn’t help it. That moment gave me so much joy. In all seriousness, very much appreciate the video. Really taught me a lot about the instrument!

👍👍👍🙏💚🧡👌😎🙆 what could I say more!.... The top guys to my harmonics quest, natural '' '' sounds, and modular, with voltage entryway..... The first time I saw one Pittsburg video after having a look on Thomann de where thing thing was to buy, I decided I will be a part of my mobile studio. For now, I have to spend money for the B2600, and stand a bit Thomann have the Taiga under stock, but I think that with my others instruments, that will be awesome to produce rich soundscapes, with some melodics, the way I love playing music. Sometimes ago, as my studio will be mobile, I was to sell my R Juno 6 and my R SH 200, a bunch of Yamaha fm, TX7 , DX7 , DX21, because too heavy, no place in a very tiny mobile home, but I will not do it. The Taiga, like old synthesis spirit, are treasure of music in an era where everything is perverted, where music becomes only knob turners, this is fresh air without pollution. Depend how you want to play. So very very important to have your video that expand my imagination about how I will use the Taiga. Mostly my camping car will drive me through Eurasia to the Taïga forests, so that's tuning in tone! 🙋From Bulgaria!

Talking about driving the filter, and balancing the resonance and mixer, very subtle, etc. This part was around 22 minutes, but I mean this in general)... So many of the talking points would benefit from a concurrent attempt to reproduce the mentioned effect on the synth right there, so we could hear audio examples from the line outs. There were very occasional sounds from the synths, but those often didn't seem to be illustrative of the point being made. There was the feedback example, and the dynamics example, but that was really it, for pertinent examples in the first 30 minutes. Nick did some filter sweeps. The explanations and chat were good, on point. Maybe that's what people were missing, and the audio examples didn't matter, IDK. I've seen Molten's demo of Taiga, and parts of a couple others, but not most of them, so I don't know "what was missing" from the demos so far.

Got my Taiga today. Really struggling with it! 😕 I thought it would be pretty easy to get going with it. Took me a while to get a sound out of it. Then the sound was very odd and hard to control. Tried to follow the quick start guide. Helped a little. But envelope behavior is really odd. Not like any ADSR I've used before! And the whole thing sounds a bit off. Pretty disappointment so far. Not really what I expected out of the box.

I’ve been in the same boat here for a while and kinda put it to one side. The dynamics section seems key to understand. With some playing I’m getting the ADSR to play something close to what I’d expect. But it feels hard work to me. And much harder work than I’d expect. I can’t get much out of it with CV out of midi mode at all. I will persist as I see some amazing things coming out of it on videos.
