Very nice video. I thought my simulator was a bit off because of all the nuisance ground proximity warnings that I get while on approach to this airport, but it reassures me to hear exactly the same warnings in real life … I guess my sim isn't so bad after all!

Nice vid! I'm in initial ground right now for this aircraft. To be honest, I wasn't really too stoked to start flying it coming from the GLF4, but now I'm excited to learn! Hope we get to do some VFR flights too, and get some real stick and rudder time.
@pittstraining13 жыл бұрын
As far as the pitot heat goes, it is a lineup item unless taxiing in visible moisture at close to or below freezing temps (a quick look at your checklist will confirm this). Also, the rudder bias check is performed as a before takeoff item. So if a rudder bias valve is frozen, you would see it there (before the pitot heat is turned on, btw.).

If you guys need to reassure each other every second, go ahead. Maybe one day you guys will become real living, breathing, THINKING aviators like us, and not just robots that only know one way to accomplish your goal. Just keep engaging your autopilot and watch the world go by.

Here's some tips then: if the windshield is full of houses, pull up. If it's full of houses, and those houses are spinning, let go of everything and fold your hands. Commence praying. :)

Nice to see professional pilots being professional to a tee. Captain did not have his shoulder harness on during the landing, which would not have been good with a runway excursion/overrun. Great video :-)

Please check the AFM again as to when to switch on "HEATERS" , it's on after start, no BS there is a reason for this.
@esmithjm13 жыл бұрын
(h) Each occupant of a seat equipped with a shoulder harness or with a combined safety belt and shoulder harness must have the shoulder harness or combined safety belt and shoulder harness properly secured about that occupant during takeoff and landing, except that a shoulder harness that is not combined with a safety belt may be unfastened if the occupant cannot perform the required duties with the shoulder harness fastened. What is it that he cannot reach??
@Vref757 жыл бұрын
great video you would very rarely see an aircraft of this performance flying vfr here in australia
@pittstraining13 жыл бұрын
We always look at the tiller, too. As far as cycling the airbrakes, they can be cycled 1 or 100 times. It really doesn't matter. If they stick on the second (or 90th) time, I will be glad that it happened on the ground. You are arguing technique, not procedure. Each pilot has his own technique to achieve the same goal.
@esmithjm13 жыл бұрын
Just a few items not covered by MSFS, pitot/vane heat should be switched on immediately after engine start so that rudder bias strut valves will be thawed prior to takeoff, read the checklist items and either touch or at least look at the item, you do know the terrain warning can be cancelled?, one speed, no altitude calls on final, tiller alignment not checked.
@pittstraining13 жыл бұрын
In our airplane, the EPGWS cannot be cancelled without pulling a breaker. In some it can, in this particular hawker, it cannot. I have flown many hawkers with all the avionics options including the Honeywell and the ProLine 21. In some cases, there is an overide switch (or button), but not in all airplanes.

I've watched this video several - 2 things stick out in my head every time... 1st & foremost, Why does the EGPWS not have a temporary "mute/override" button, I have read all the comments on it, I see nothing wrong with flying a visual approach with the thing going off As far as I can tell, you had the field "in-sight" before it started going off anyways. - and 2nd, How many degrees of flaps are there on your Hawker & are there speed brakes as well? Thank you. Clear Skies & Happy Landings.

Did the PF forget to buckle the shoulder harness? Aren't they part of the checklists or he just think they're useless?😊

Hello there! Great video! I fly a Hawker out of the SF Bay Area in California....I love it! You guys did a very nice job flying this bird...you two seem to get along very well, which in itself promotes safety. How did you film this? I was considering purchasing a GoPro..but I wasn't sure how I would mount it? Do you have any suggestions?
@pittstraining13 жыл бұрын
As a technique (based on our SOP's, training, line checks, etc) we call airspeed deviations from a target, not actual indicated airspeeds. This keeps the chatter to a minimum during a critical phase such as landing. Once the proper airspeed is reached, if there is no deviation (it is important to maintain the proper airspeed - especially in places like Aspen) there is no call. Once again, it reduces needless chatter.

Id like to see where camera manufactures address the white balance issue. It should now be technologically achievable to selectively balance higher exposed sectors of the field of view so we can see what's going on outside when the camera is inside in a lower light area. Some cockpit shots are useless due to the washing out effect of the light coming in from the windshield.
@glennlie11 жыл бұрын
I get your point!
@esmithjm13 жыл бұрын
Surely your SOP requires shoulder harness for takeoff and landing? Proper airspeed is no more important at ASE than MIA.
@cwdecker2313 жыл бұрын
@4fifty8 Except for the seat belt comment, There is no validity to your comments. I fly a 550, if the AP and auto throttles are on the only thing you are touching is the guidance panel. I saw nothing wrong with his commanding the gear up or down. If you don't mind me asking, professionally what do you fly?

@Rdavis24738 жыл бұрын
The captain didn't have his shoulder harness on. I'm certain that is illegal cause he is part of the required flight crew members
@GuidoWarnecke8 жыл бұрын
Legality is not so important... If you crash during an aborted take off you might bang your head somewhere. You might not be able to get out of the aircraft or to help other to do so.
@Rdavis24738 жыл бұрын
Guido Warnecke I beg to differ sir. Federal Aviation Regulation 91.105. (B) states (b) Each required flight crewmember of a U.S.-registered civil aircraft shall, during takeoff and landing, keep his or her shoulder harness fastened while at his or her assigned duty station. This paragraph does not apply if- (1) The seat at the crewmember's station is not equipped with a shoulder harness; or (2) The crewmember would be unable to perform required duties with the shoulder harness fastened.
@GuidoWarnecke8 жыл бұрын
Hi Ryan, this is a 2 crew ops and the pilot in question does not need to reach over to any switches. I give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he might just have forgotten the harness. If this wasintentional, it is irresponsible because of the reasons mentioned before. - possible incapacitation of the captain on a crash and disability to lead evacuation and assist crew/ passengers No Chief Pilot or Director of Operation would "ok" this. It is not my business as I am not part f the crew or passenger list :-) Happy Landings, Guido
@esmithjm13 жыл бұрын
You are getting stall, stick pusher, and staatic plates confused with rudder bias heat, since rudder bias would be most critical on takeoff, wouldn't it be stupid to wire the heat through the squat switch. JUST CHECK THE AFM!!
@shanelodge3912 жыл бұрын
Captain not bothering to put on his shoulder harness, inadequate flight control check; you need to tighten up on the cockpit discipline boys………
@4fifty813 жыл бұрын
@cwdecker23 Not sure if flying a 550 counts as the airlines! As for what I fly professionally.... I don't mean to boast but it happens to be the Cri-Cri... haha jk.. what I fly has nothing to do with what I said. Let my words stand on their own.

The pilot sit on left didn't need the seat belt
@billyjack33616 жыл бұрын
Why do you feel it’s necessary to add music to an otherwise nice video?
@4fifty812 жыл бұрын
Read 91.105(b)(2) again. Don't try to tell me that the pilot wouldn't have been able to perform his duties with the shoulder harness fastened. Are you suggesting that you could use 91.3 to deviate from any regulation that you feel like? You really don't understand anything about legal regulations or english for that matter. And now you're gonna tell me that the shoulder harness, designed for safety reasons, will interfere with the safety of the flight?! I would love to see this argued in court!
@donnnelson677912 жыл бұрын
yeah, thats what I noticed, where was the pilot's seat belt/harness? Is that all he forgot? I wouldn't want to fly with him......
@mxcollin9512 жыл бұрын
Looked like you guys did it right. Tired of hearing stupid pilots that talk crap about using standard procedures and call outs. Those comments usually come from people that don't have the skill or discipline to fly in a structured and consistent way anyway.
@pittstraining13 жыл бұрын
As far as the altitude and airspeed calls, you have once again missed the mark. By not cancelling the EGPWS (even if we could), we get altitude readouts to the ground (three hundred, two hundred, one hundred, fifty, forty, thirty, etc...), Plus this was a visual approach, not an ILS to minimums. I knew how high we were - I was LOOKING at the runway, and I do not need an altimeter (or radar altimeter or a copilot) to tell me when to flare.
@justinmills456611 жыл бұрын
Lol yeah the guy on left has no seat belt on
@psslonaker11 жыл бұрын
He has on a seat belt, but he is a big ole boy. The shoulder harness might not fit over him.
@EatMyPropwash12 жыл бұрын
First of all, its 91.105, and 91.107. Any good CFI can tell you that without looking it up. Kind of like if you don't know what 91.3 is you're not a real pilot, you're an internet jagoff, like yourself. The shoulder harness isn't required if they interfere with the safety of flight. Of course, you'd only know that if you read the regs for once Mr. wanna-be FAA Inspector. As for the gear up, he said gear up, along with a hand movement. Any other dumb comments I can prove you wrong on?
@pittstraining13 жыл бұрын
It's really too bad that you guys do not have anything better to do than to offer your negative opinions (as uninformed as they are). Unlike you guys, I'm still busy flying for a living, so I have to be quick here. Unfortunately, like many ididots that jump to conclusions without having all the background info, you missed a lot of the flight (startup, taxi, etc) due to the editing proces.

Looks like we got ourselves a couple hotshots here!! - how about you put your shoulder harness on when you're legally required to do so. If you want I could have someone call you from your local FSDO with the FARs reference for you if you have any questions on that. You wouldn't get away with your Texas cowboy style of communicating if you were flying in the airlines. Completely unprofessional. Captain should just keeps his hands on the yoke when flying - use your words when you want gear up!
