At $6000 for the ViDOC alone (without mobile device), it's priced about the same as Trimble's similar unit (surprising as Trimble is typically triple+ the price of generic devices, lol). For clarification -- This is not using RTK, alone, to obtain coordinates. It actually uses the IMU's/photogrammetry to substantially improve accuracy with a concept similar to least-squares (to simplify it).
@RamiTamimi2 жыл бұрын
Trimble's device has a similar idea, they're just a competitor to Pix4D.

@@RamiTamimi - Yes, I'm aware, that's why I had mentioned it ;-). There are also two generic alternatives that are thousands less; however, not really on-par with professional "survey grade" gear. Although there are benefits because one is a separate software package that is compatible with several different RTK hardware options.
@OnTheMountain2 жыл бұрын
@@RamiTamimi Trimble has a "similar piece of hardware" but it is not the same idea, and not used in the same way. I dont think i need to explain tilt comp as im sure you are fully aware of what it is and how it works, but comparing the Iphones IMU application to trimbles tilt IMU is a complete apples to orange comparison. Question, with these videos are you attempitng to show that these are cheaper alternatives for RTK rovers + scanners? Or are you merely showing how much more accurate consumer level tech is getting? I can definitely agree that the consumers level stuff is getting better and better each year, but i notice with a lot of your videos if anyone even mentions industry standard equipment that you are VERY quick to try and defend the cheaper and objectively less accurate equipment. Just curious on your actual thoughts to this stuff and your actual in field experience with either leica or trimble rovers/total stations in the last 5-7 years.

How large of a property could you realistically scan by walking around in a grid? 1 acre? Larger? I'm very interested in this for pre-construction planning for my team and would like to be able to walk the site and capture everything. I'm hoping 2 to 4 acres wouldn't be hard for the technology. Would it only be limited by storage space on my phone or ipad? Thanks so much for this video, I'm extremely keen to go this route instead of drone mapping for scanning the site and having the team be able to look at it online and be able to take measurements while we are planning the builds. Cheers Rami

@thenerfguru2 жыл бұрын
I’m not convinced that a gimbal would improve the results. What the gimbal does is improve the iPhone’s ability to track its position in relative to the scene (improves SLAM accuracy). The ViDOC most likely has an even better positional tracking that Apple’s Visual-Inertial Odometry tracking. That all being said, it’s worth the test! Also, with any test I see on these video, we only see a sample size of 1 test. We should be seeing the scan of the walkway 3+ times to see if these is variation across captures. I’d like him to walk up and back down the slope. Rotate around spots, etc. this was a limited test that gives us a good idea of the accuracy, but not the full picture.

You were holding the phone very close to the target object, so I suspect the relatively high accuracy you see is mostly attributed to the GNSS (RTK). It would be interesting to see the result if you repeat the experiment by holding the sensor (phone) further away from the target points (once above and once in a 45-degree angle). The theoretical edge case is holding the phone in zero distance from the target points - in that case, you would expect to get the GNSS accuracy + sensor noise.

Maintenance crews came around after us and ripped all the flagging out, pulling some of the nails out with it. I didn't put any paint around the nails but they did NOT like the flagging.
