For a time, there was a semi-tradition that every Pixar film would have a moment like the match blowing out in the first Toy Story, where you would think the characters are going to make it, only for it to be ripped out from under them and one last obstacle gets put in their way.

It happens twice in ratatoille, when Linguini realises he is the son of gustau, the movie kinda has a happy ending until we meet with Anton Ego. When Linguini serves Ego the ratatoille, the audience thinks "ok now this time the movie is over, we have a happy ending" until they remind us the whole health inspector thing
