I need to upgrade coz I'm out of contract, started off with an open mind, then decided on Mate 20 Pro, then was a toss up between Note 9 and iPhone XS Max, then a toss up between the iphone XS Max and the Pixel 3 XL. I have to say I'n now inclined to go with the iPhone XS Max, great HDR and consistent video footage.

thanks for the excellent and honest comparison. it's a tough call. I really like the iphone for landscapes but at a party I would prefer the pixel for better lowlight and natural skin tones. Iphone is really ruining it with the pinkish unnatural skintones for me.

the google pixel three makes photos seem more crisp and just overall better with those sharp lines, and I gotta give it to the iPhone for better color comparison during videos and just making everything seem more lifelike. I don't know why the google pixel three doesn't do that also but oh well, at least its close behind (same goes to iPhone in the photos area). thank you SO much for making this video! was very fun to compare them both to each owns skill and see what talent they both had!

We need another video comparing strictly HDR between the iPhone XS and Pixel 3 camera stills only. Smart HDR vs HDR+ in the most challenging conditions ie. subjects in direct sunlight etc. Which phone has better overall exposure.

Google is releasing software that's fixing some of the major problems that was plaguing the phone at release. Microphone is now great. You can't even compare photo quality because, iPhone just can't compete, anymore, especially in low light. Consistency in quality goes to Pixel. Video still goes to iPhone, but a lot of that can be fix with software, I bet.....just waiting for more software until Pixel can shoot at 8k slo-mo at 1,000,000 FPS.......LOLOL.

Google is aware of the audio issue on the Pixels and according to their tech support they are currently working on a fix for it as well as the EIS "stutter" issue in the videos. Also, Night Sight camera is in the works that will just KILL the iPhone in low light photography when it is released. Also, in video recording, in my opinion, the Pixel has better stabilization and better skin tone representation. Also, according to Google, the Pixel 3 doesn't have a manual setting for 4K 60 fps, but because of the AI learning software, outdoor sunny bright areas are actually recording at 4K 60 fps, but low light areas, are reduced to 4K 30 fps to allow in more light for better image quality in shadow areas (as shown in this video in the "cave shadow") . Let's revisit this comparison AFTER Google fixes the software issues.

When recording video in the standard lens you have to stop recording in order to switch to the telephoto lens, zooming in to 2X whilst making video is using digital zoom and NOT optical zoom. So many reviewers are zooming in to 2X and then saying the pixel looks comparable but they’re using digital zoom and not using the telephoto lens on the iPhone. IMO pixel is usually best for still photos but the iPhone wins in everything else including video and audio (which is atrocious on the pixel).

Ygor Cortes if you have an iPhone try covering the telephoto lens and then switch the cameras, it’ll still show an image because you’re just zooming in not changing lenses. It’s been like this since the iPhone X last year and possibly earlier.

If you do this on a bright sunny environment, you'll see the telephoto camera will be covered and then it'll switch to the main camera.

The pixel is good only for stills. Sometimes. If it gets color right. Too much sharpening and contrast. Funny how the iPhone ups the contrast on video, but it’s not as contrasty with stills. The iPhone is a much better overall camera. Oh and I can switch between each lens while shooting video on my XS Max, same as my 7 Plus.

I hate to say this...but this video is so bias. Dynamic range is so much better on iPhone. Video...no comparison...iPhone wins by a wide margin. Pictures...toss up but again, look at the dynamic range difference favoring iPhone!

I dont think it's biased. We all know how good was pixel 2 camera. Following that apple worked on software and improved their HDR . And now result is such that image from iPhone is soft and Color rendering also getting wrong. And as far as I know apple is already issuing these issue in the upcoming update in iOS 12.1

The water droplets you can see on the fountain video has more to do with the frame rate than camera (lens, sensors, or whatnot). I prefer the iphone look on that one. I agree with the red tinge from the iphone on human face is less realistic or flattering. Also, it is more expensive to put a wider lens than a more (normal range) lens on the phone. I think Apple wins this one with two camera setup.

im actually looking for a phone too, and i was getting a google pixel three so i wanted to see the specs, sadly there is no good zoom nor wide lens BUT there are actually attachable lens' for that so you wont have to worry about stuff like that! im gonna be getting a wide lens' that will make my camera capture around 45% more? so im interested to see whats that like. the video isnt as good as iPhones BUT comes very close behind so i wont worry about that and the pictures i feel come out better because it takes more than one photo and stitches it together to make the lines more clear/crisp and give the photo overall more color than the iPhone

I like the sound, video and dynamik range on the iPhone. The overall victory goes to the iPhone. And considering that the Pixel 3 is not listed in DxOMark, it can not be very good. Finally, Google uses every opportunity for advertising.

I feel like the pixel 3 has a advantage in the camera market which is not being addressed. If you plan on using it for more than one year, it will recieve camera software updates that allow it to compete with NEXT GENERATION PHONE CAMERAS. Look at the pixel 2 xl. It's almost the same with the pixel 3. The fact it even competes which the phone cameras of today is astonishing. Which is why i use a pixel 3. I plan on using it for a long time.

Ok idk why I am watching this video so late. But a couple constructive criticisms. Theres is shot with the fountain and the iphone has the railing in the shot which is fairly sharp and the pixel has nothing interfering. I would bet the iphone is just as sharp if not better without the rail. Also when you did the focus test you only tested from one side. So the iphone got wrist and palm and the pixel got the finger and top part of hand. That is a huge difference. No hate just trying to help. As a pixel "bro" I envy the iphone video and it is superior.

iPhone's back-facing camera footage just looks so crisp and vibrant. That's as close to perfect video quality as you can get. Pixel, on the other hand, produces sluggish, dull footage with blown-out highlights and very blurry background. As far as front-facing video recording goes, there is barely any contest at all. iPhone wins by an enormous margin. Front-facing footage, however, is clearly better on the Pixel, with much more natural-looking colours and more detail on the focused object. The background does have a bookeh effect to it, which makes the footage look very professional. However, it must be said that the dynamic range is significantly better on the iPhone, handling tricky lighting situations very well (can be seen when testing stabalisation). Pixel wins comfortably, but iPhone definitely puts up more fight than the Pixel does for front-fcing video quality. Audio, again, absolutely horrible on the Pixel, with a lot of background noise, while the iPhone really does sound premium-quality. No contest yet again. Stablisation is very close - the Pixel is sharper and preserves the video quality, while the iPhone stabilises the image better, but the jello effect really does become noticeable when the phone is shaking a lot. I think iPhone just edges this one, as it is completely devoid of the jello effect in standard conditions, while the same cannot be said of the Pixel. But this one is very tight and subjective. Still image quality, on the other hand, is a bit better on the Pixel, with truer white balance, contrast, and more detail in the photos. iPhone's photos definitely look more vibrant, though, and have a very nice up-lifting feel to them, which I like a lot, as well as being oh so much better in various non-standard lighting situations. The verdict largely depends on personal subjective preference, but I think we can agree the Pixel produces slightly better still photos in regular lighting conditions, while iPhone takes the win for irregualar lighting. Finally, low-lighting is, as advertised, better on the Pixel, though not by as much as I have expected. Granted, it is a lot less grainy most of the times, as well as preserving more detail, but it does blow highlights out much more than the iPhone. Overall, I, as a Google fan and Pixel 3 owner, can admit iPhone's camera is the better camera all-around, with nonsensically better video and audio quality, but I think reasonable Apple fans cn agree that, in terms of photography, the Pixel delivers a slightly better performance from the average user's perspective (still imagery under regular lighting, selfies, low-light).

I'd say Pixel 3 wins because of sharpness and maintaining detail. When video is a little too bright you can just lower and lock the exposure and if you want even more control download filmic Pro which would then give you access to all the frame rates...
