In India Pixel 3a is upwards of $560 (~40,000 Rs). When India and China are the major market for budget mid range phones, this is outright dumb. This is actually expensive than the expected OnePlus 7 price.

@@typingcat Compromises. Wireless charging is still a "premium" feature. It's a convenience gimmick and I'm not saying that to trash the tech. I think it's great and very convenient, but it's not a "must have" or dealbreaker. For the price, I see zero issues with no wireless charging...but a phone like the OnePlus 7 Pro, in that price segment...it should have wireless charging. Definitely miss polycarbonate bodied phones though...the HTC One X is still one of my favorite phones.

There's nothing wrong with polycarbonate. My Nokia Lumia 1020 had a polycarbonate unibody and it held up like a tank. Glass is a stupid choice of material for a smartphone.

My pixel 3a felt premium. Polycarbonate is a better material for making phones. I like metal also and I will say this. I have a Nokia 6.1 and I defy anyone to show me a phone that is or feels more premium . If you want the build quality then there isn't a better built phone than the Nokia 6.1.

@captain america - If they made a SUPCASE UNICORN BEETLE for the Pixel 3a, I would recommend it - I have one for my S7; they make them for other Galaxy S models, and Notes, too. The case is tank-tough - includes a holster, too. Not many $20USD cases do.

Google did plastic right on this phone. It isn't that cheap hollow plastic that Samsung was known for. The 3a is light yet has a substantial feel to it. Solid build . Feels like an old Nokia Lumia. I actually preferred metal phones but this one has changed my mind . As long as they can make the plastic of a high quality then it's all good.

The Nexus 5x and 6p had the best android cameras of their time. The Nexus 5x was also really cheap, I had mine for a few months so I didn't experience any of its issues but it was pretty amazing for the price.

The Nexus 6P had the most amazing camera for its time. In fact it was THE phone that started putting Google at the top of the photography charts with its improved HDR+ goodness. It was not the fastest phone of its day either, packing the overheating snapdragon 810. Except for the metal body that only the 6P had, these new Pixel "a" phones are the clear continuation of the last Nexus releases.

It also has *no notch at all* - which can't be said of the S9, Note 9, or the S10e. Exactly, how on earth so many of the supposedly tech reviewers do not seem to know that plastic does not interfere with electromagnetic field and therefore it is perfectly fine for wireless charging - unlike metal of course. On the sidenote: from what I have heard it is actually a big part of the HTC team that worked on the Pixel 3a - great work!

Just ordered one. Have had various phones over the years both iOS and Android. Im over those high end phones. Paying 800 dollars for a phone is silly. Getting back to Android for now. I like the idea of having the raw android system and no manufacturer skins or fluff on top. Shame it doesnt have wireless charging, its not a deal breaker but its very convinient being able to just plop it down on the shelf in the car or when you get home instead of fidgeting with a cable.

I saw a lot of reviews about the pixel A XL. Your review touched on a lot of things that other reviewer said because they're factual but your video was the most informative. I purchased the phone confidently based on your review. I am an iPhone user and have been for the past three years. I've always owned Android. I love my iPhone because of the video quality and everything is very simplistic in terms of it just works. I have to say with all the updates and changes I am slowly creeping back to the pixel. I don't like Samsung or any other companies if I use a phone that has to be directly from them. I'm strictly iPhone or pixel. Thank you for the review.

The build quality on the 3a & XL with the polycarbonate build quality is excellent. I like it better than the glass sandwich? In case of a drop very durable? That 📷, OLED display & 🔋 are really nice? On average 7to8hrs SOT. The 670processer works admirably, no lags or stutters. I would recommend either phone to anyone? The tech geeks or the novice?

Name one. (Yes - I'm serious.) Both Huawei and POCO - carrier-support issues. And I frankly admit that the camera is *overkill*. The Note 9 or S9 is more than twice the price - and I was looking at Best Buy - which has the unlocked 3a for $299USD. It's basically a modern Google Nexus (the first Android smartphone I ever owned) - which - unlike either the S7 that is my current daily driver - OR my GNex- which it replaced - can actually run Pie (in fact, it includes it OOTB). Do I get brave and dare to throw the current beta of Q at it? Twenty-four hour turn-around time - at worst. (All of it on MY end.) The Pixel 3a is a killer phone - and that is *not* counting the camera.

I've used the 3XL with and without the notch. I hated the notch at first but I dont wanna disable it now because the extra real estate which is useful than a chunky bezel

Notch doesn't imply more screen real estate. Galaxy S8 and S9 had better screen to body ratios without a notch or hole in the display than the X/XR/XS did with a notch, for example. Screen to body ratio doesn't tell the whole story either, because the bits of the screen next to the notch are pretty useless aside from showing the time and notifications; you can't really use that space well while gaming or watching a video and will likely deal with a lot of letterboxing because of it. Disabling the notch would of course give you less screen space than not disabling it, but better yet is not to have a notch in the first place.

If you put cutouts on those Galaxy S8 and S9 they would provide more space lol. There is a mode that you can disable the Pixel 3XL notch totally like it simulates a large thick bezel. If you have tried it you would notice that it uses lesser real estate. It's prominent when browsing apps you get to see less content.

This phone was built for someone like me so all the complaints he is talking about doesn't even faze me at all. I have had expensive phones and was so unhappy but this phone at the price point, software updates,headphone jack is enough for me. This is a home run for me. The expensive phones I have had was the note 8 which I gave to my 17 yr old. I currently have a iPhone xs max and bought a Moto z3 play which the z3 play to me is not a premium phone. I am getting bored with tech tubers due to the fact companies send these phones to them and we the public have to buy ours.

Great camera and pure Android software, tough specs to price ratio elsewhere is not the greatest this is a very good and secure device so most will be happy with and be a good work phone! :D

Thanks for the review. The no water resistant is the biggest downer for me. I almost was gonna get this after my lease was up on my note 8 but i think I'm just gonna buy my phone when lease is up. 2 years later and the note is still superior to a lot of new mid range phones

Nice review. My 3A XL shows up in a few hours. Ditching my OnePlus 6 never been thrilled with its camera or quirks. Constant call quality issues no matter what carrier. Looking forward to pure Android and frequent updates. Google just needs to figure out the easy way Apple does phone upgrades. My wife gets a new iPhone and everything including apps is copied and restored in a few minutes. Google add a expandable storage and this phone is a killer.

Went from the XR to the pixel 3a XL. After 30min of having the phone I dropped it And cracked the screen... Overall great battery life and haven't noticed any lags

I just want... - A "small" phone (meaning the dimensions nowadays are totally ridiculous for my taste). the p3a is kinda as big as I "can" go - decent battery life (it should last me through a above average day on one charge (which it does) - good camera (p3a does that so far I'd say) because I dont own a "regular" camera, my phone is all I have for this (and my drone, but I cant take that out in a crowded city xD) I dont play strenous games like pubg or something on my phone, and it doesnt need to be the fastest. Also I really like the UI I have on the pixel. I hope the p4a has a WA lense instead of a telephone, since I can zoom in with superres zoom, but I cant do a photosphere wideangle on a family dinner since people will move.

Not everyone needs wireless charging - I have it, but don't even use it (S7 Snapdragon). I willingly admit that the improved camera quality is overkill. However, it *is* the best $400USD any-carrier smartphone to hit North American shores - and that includes Huawei.

Did this guy just state that the Nexus phones had bad cameras? The $250 Nexus 5 had a decent camera which was good for the price point. The Nexus 6+ had a good camera. Don't just make stuff up.

yeah that comment made me question if he even used that phone. I'm still rocking the nexus 6p atm, and it still holds up against modern flagships like the iphone XS and pixel 3. Someone posted a great video 6 months ago comparing the nexus 6p to the whole pixel line and it's still able to trade blows. My friends are always asking me which phone I'm using when I share pictures.

The Nexus 5 was $350. I'd say it had an adequate camera. People said it was bad on release, but it really wasn't. It did very well in good light but had poor dynamic range and struggled in low or variable light. The Nexus 6+ doesn't exist, so I'm not sure which phone you're talking about lol

The notch isn’t there because there aren’t two big cameras on the front of the phone and google wasn’t spending the money on cutting out a display to fit a notch which makes it cheaper.

I loved the One Mini and the M8, and still have two M8's now as backups. But, glass is transparent to radio signals, and the U11 and U12 Plus get far better reception and Wi-Fi range.

I hear a lot of problems with the Pixel 3's camera and overall responsiveness overtime, but I haven't experienced ANY on my Pixel 2. In my case the phone is as responsive as it was when I got it (on launch day october 2017). Even the battery life has been very good and still lasts me through a day. I was about to get the S10 but decided to wait for the Pixel 4 because I have a feeling it's gonna be a good one

This was a good plan by Google. I have to admit. Get all those people holding out on upgrading due to Apples skyrocketing prices and give then a reason to buy another phone on Google's ecosystem. With these being on practically all the carriers will make these sell real well.

Hi, how would you compare the 3a to Xiaomi mi 9 SE? Picture quality is important but during the day, 2slot SIM would be nice but also a good scree with notifications. Tough choice.

You really can't compare the Pixel 3a with iPhone XR. Pixel 3a is half the price of the iPhone XR, and they have put a flagship camera in it. iPhone XR which is supposed to be an "affordable" phone is priced at twice the price of the Pixel 3a. iPhone even has the top level chip in it, while the Pixel has a mid tier chip.
