First PC ever bought: Apple IIc in 1985, best PC ever bought: Google Pixelbook in 2018! I spent many years in the tech industry in both product support (hardware & software) and software engineering (PL/1 & COBOL among others) and I've NEVER seen a product as deliciously wonderful to work with and a pleasure to behold visually. After 3 years, this is still my go-to device. I love it more than my iPad Pro, my Windows laptop or really any other tech product I've ever purchased. Would buy another in a second at twice the price!!!

This machine buys you with it's keyboard. One of the best feelings of typing compared to MacBooks or Surface. I can say that this laptop is demanding, if you wanna go beyond "just browsing". I mean, you must deal with the thing that everything in this system, except for the native chrome experience may work worse than you expect. This includes Linux container apps, android apps, things that you got used to in "regular" OSes. For example, Visual Studio code works with observed reduced speed, Pycharm experience is far worse, connecting a PB to a TV turned into a quest where you first deal with the resolution, then the sound, then you realize that MX Player from android just goes with insane freezes. In some ways PB reminds me of a Blackberry in post iPhone time. You are either a fan of this and tweak/use it for your day-to-day duties or you give up and stop challenging with your comfort and move to more friendly systems. Hope Google will continue to improve their system so it can someday compete, especially my hopes are on Linux machine.

Great video, i just go a PIXELBOOK 256GB for $270 in immaculate brand new condition from a seller on facebook market, I’m pleasantly surprised, it’s as fast as my IPAD PRO M1, this is a great deal, bargain basement price for such a great device !

Chrome OS has definitely matured into something we can use daily. I've been using mine non stop whilst my most recent Windows laptop hasn't been touched on over a year. I too have the OG Pixelbook i7 and I love it. I've never had any significant issues at all. Gaming wise, now with Stadia, is a dream device! Work and play! Great video, sir! +1 subscriber!

I also have the the pixelbook from 2017 i5. I use it everyday and still love it. My only complaint is the keyboard lighting. During the day you have to turn off the keyboard light or you can't see the keys and vice versa.

Still using my 3 year old Samsung Chromebook for daily net consumption. Android apps run pretty well even though the specs of this device are fairly low. If it isn't broke then don't fix it lol

@@elif-kt9ik Yes! I'm very happy with it. There are always a few limitations with Chrome OS but as for what you can do with it, the storage and power in the base model holds up well in Jan 2022. Speakers work well enough when in laptop mode but not any other mode. Screen is nice and it's becoming my main machine. Even hooked into my TV with a trackball and my Keychron Bluetooth keyboard.

I don't know if I Pixelbook 2 will come out. The closest I've seen is the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook. I'm currently using it, other than the battery life and some issues with heat,it's a great Pixelbook replacement

Ohhhhh in Chinese mainland second handed ones are sold only 1400RMB, which is about 180 British pounds or 200 USD. This is an extra budget...However, China cannot use its google service due to the GFW, so I use a VPN

I had the exact same issue back when I bought it in 2017 and I also sold it but I never got the chance to buy it again :( I am non on the Lenovo Duet and I love it but I sure miss a bigger keybard and a snapier processor.

Photo editing it does well. I haven't found an app to do video editing (most are android and aren't compatible with chromebook)

I liked my pixelbook ok until I sneezed on it and killed the keyboard. It felt like I gave it a virus 🦠🦟. I guess I could get a USB keyboard n trackpad. But the best part was the portability and nice keyboard n trackpad it came with. I contacted google pixel team and am waiting to hear back if they can help me get a replacement. The aspect ratio and the bezels make it look a little retro for only being 4 years old. True. It is hard to get parts for and have heard that the keyboard isn't detachable. You have to replace the whole chassis of the laptop, taking out the parts that work and putting them into the other one. Have you ever watched a teardown video of pixelbook? Full of glue and easily breakable parts all over. This thing wasn't meant to be repaired and that stinks for such a "high end" device. It's pretty for sure but the execution was a little off. This coming from the sneeze 🤧 executioner of my poor pixelbook. 😫😩🤷🤷💔 Next time I'll get one of those keyboard condoms to put on top to protect my investment.

Wow that's some sneeze ! I had the same concerns about the pixelbook when i got it, and even 4 years later its still hard to find replacement parts for the laptop. Hopefully google support can do something for you, keep me posted.

Hello, yes ! the i7 , 16gb will be more than enough for video calls and general productivity. I have similar use case with my i5 , 8gb and no issues so far.

@@leanlleva1480 Let's dig more into the details, what sort of document editing will you be doing? Most things can be done in Google Docs. However, building really crazy power points with animations and graphics will be a bit more limited. I haven't had any issues filling in PDF's etc. Binging netflix for around 5 hours shouldn't be an issue =)

Unfortunately I don't have one on hand. The pixel slate should be even better than when it was first released . The big issue at the time was the software bugs. Basically they hadn't worked out the gestures, screen rotation etc. As I understand those are no longer issues. In terms of hardware it has the same processor as the 2020 pixelbook go, a better screen and a finger print scanner. If you can find a good deal on the Pixel Slate you'd be set 👍. Hope that helps !

I would use a third party bluetooth keyboard instead because the original keyboard or the Brydge keyboard is too expensive. I like the Pixel Slate for its front firing speakers, something which lacking in all other tablets in the world today. Am i right?

@@clarencegeorge6853 the original pixel keyboard cover is like 100 dollars, some bluetooth keyboards are just as exspensive if you want one you don't have to replace every once in a while and they don't come with a cover wich one also might need to get from another seller if it's on amazon thus if you wil use it a lot i recomend getting the og keyboard plus you can also get support from google if need be to make sure you can use it up until service wil end in 2023

@@ardencho662 it might be , however, you will need to diagnose the issue and confirm what it is first. I.e is it the Wi-Fi adapter, motherboard or something else. If it's the motherboard, you won't be able to easily replace it.

I still regret that I paid just north of $1k for my 256 GB i5 version back in 2019. It was at a $250 discount directly from the Google Store, but still not worth the money. It's a beautiful machine, but I wish I had bought a Macbook Air or higher end PC for the same money. And with Google's poor technical support for it, I'll never buy another Google-branded Chromebook, if they ever make another one in the future. Any new Chromebook I purchase will be from a reputable brand like Acer, Asus, or Lenovo.

Chromebook is literally a Debian Mac. Intel repurposed thier hybrid Unix technology into a snapdragon-arm7 hybrid. Snapdragon is very similar to power PC thus Intel can make less overpriced Chromebook vs Intel Mac. Chromebook boots faster than anything because it's basically advanced firmware vs Android or Windows that always need so sort of kernel.

Chrome OS is always changing... even TODAY,,,, every 4 weeks another "update" or " change " its always in development,, things like Android & LINUX were added to the Chrome OS Web Browser. an i5 8GB 128GB should work well as a LINUX development machine,,

@@jonepaulfagan9678 yea try contacting google and see what they say. I've had some good experience with Google replacing my older pixel 3 because of defect issues. There are also guides online that show you how to replace the pixelbook touch screen. You will need to buy a spare Pixel book screen from an online retailer or on eBay. Google may send you to their their local repair shop called iFixit

You have to look at all Google Chromebook hardware as experimental for internal use made avilable to the public if they want to buy it ..... If you look at it in this LIGHT,, you should not see it as a FINISHED machine with WORKING software

be careful with this laptop, the battery is GARBAGE, brand new and i got 7 and half hours on lowest light for web browsing , ive heard numerous people say when they use 50 percent or 100 brightness it last only 4 or 3 hours, the laptop charges full within an hour or two but the battery endurance is low and ridiculous and media core , i paid 1,200 for thus machine, never again, was my second laptop purchase ever, live and learn , its actually a beautiful laptop, feels good keyboard, and everything, but that battery man,...... ruined the whole thing for me, id returned it if i could , you dont make batteries like that in 2021....

Your review was ehhh. You lured me in thinking you were going to talk about the new $1400 Pixel Go. Hmmm…..So I am in a similar predicament. Lots of outdated stuff. Tens of thousands spent. Now what? Who do we trust not to scoff our personal data? Breaches and other parts of companies collecting data on the use of the apps stuck on the devices. They make that M3 look too wild not to get.
