I've been working with Photoshop since the last year and I must say that thanks to this video, you changed my vision from "Sh*t, I have to select trees again!" to "I cannot wait to select trees again to apply this method". That part when you use gaussian blur to get rid of the defined color in the background is really clever and just blew my mind. Kudos for this!

God will bless you, you share the good things with people without hiding little details. I've seen many guys trying to get views by teaching Photoshop; however, they're trying to be faster in order skip little points just to hide little details from us. You're a great man sir!

You can also accomplish the same effect using a color overlay effect (set to screen) taking a sample off the mid tone blue color that was cutout, then add the gradient set to screen as well. Add the curves adjustment layer to match the light and dark. I found this works just as effective as the process you explained. Great videos! you have taught me a lot over the last year! Thanks!

What am I missing? What gap do I have in my Photoshop knowledge, or can one do it all in one step? Thank you for a fantastic tut as always!

super tuto. why didn't you put sky on top of tree and use multiply on sky ? perhaps blendif under and protect shadows near white level would have helped too ? sometimes a 5000px size big brush 1 clic on mask helps a lot on branches to feather the mask and hide halos.
