HI there Shawn, my name is Jaime Negrete, I am very Lucky to live in Chile, not in the dark north part, but in a little town called Belloto. We are entering to the Winter here, so cloudy nights are more often than I want. Just as a remark, I have a little plot of land near to the Tololo Observatory, at 1600 mts above sea level, 15 kms to Vicuña peaceful city hometown of Gabriela Mistral. Clear skies 350 days of the year and with a government regulation to prevent the light pollution. One day... maybe soon I will try to do something there, since I managed to retire at 58 years old. In the meantime the backyard in my house becaming "BelloCielo" observatory. I want to thank you for your dedication to spread the joy of the astrophotography. I have been trying to collect some data from NGC 3324 high in the sky, but the clouds doesn't allow the make a decent work. Regarding my setup, I am removing the dust from my C11, I bought an off-axis guider and giving it a try. The mount Skywatcher EQ6 R Pro. Cameras Zwo 294 color and 120 color. Just to say, I am far away from others, no light pollution filters and just OSC, alternatives here are $$$ very pricy. There is one point after mixing the channels and you popping up the colors where I can start following your wonderful tutorials. Maybe soon I can share with you my work in the Gabriela Mistral Nebula. At the moment learning binning then drizzle. Best Regards and greetings from BelloCielo.

Hi Shan. I want to tell you I really enjoy your video all the time. Today is very special for me as I did the first SHO composition thanks to you. I was at a loss what to do and this video was really helpful to me. Thanks again. And hope for the best for you.

Hi Shawn, just wanted to say thanks for this video. I've kind of lost my way with Pixinsight and the processing side of things for a while but have still been collecting data. I used your method in this video as a template to process some SHO of NGC1499 and I'm very pleased with the result! Thanks again for setting me back on the path! Clear skies!

Brilliant! This really clarified a lot of the processes and techniques for me.

HI Sean, playing with some SHO data (it's in tif format though, not sure if it makes a difference). PI version 1.8.8.8-6 - PixelMath looks different. I've tried entering "Sii" (without the quotes) for the R/K channel, (0.8*ha)+(0.2*Sii) for the G channel and Oiii for the Blue channel manually - I can't see a way to select files for each channel. When I try to process it, I keep getting an error message "file not found" - what am I doing wrong!
@davepastern3 жыл бұрын
the inputs in PixelMath match the identifier for each channel btw... I am now very confused!!! edit: I figured out it out. Clicked on expression editor and then double clicked on the relevant file in the Images box at the top Right...that worked. But - the combined images aren't aligned in the composite RGB file. This isn't my data, I'm just playing with someone else's data... 2nd edit: figured I needed to star align the data and used the light vortex tutorial on this to align the 3 channels. Now looks better except for a Blue cast, which I no doubt will fix down the track lol!

How do you make a mask from the Ha image to use on the RGB image?

Hello, Shawn! Thank you for the video - very interesting and useful. Please tell me what are the first two characters in the G field in PixelMath to remove the purple halo of stars? (I can't find them.)

I keep getting the following al all images (SHO). Error: unknown function 'sh2_132_hydrogen_alpha_session_1(0.8*Ha)(0.2*SII) . Can you assist me please?

This data was provided to me by a friend in Australia. He did the calibration and stacking. I just worked with the Masters.

Sean, interestingly, speaking to Hartmut (developer of the autocolor script) and he doesn't recommend using it for SHO images. Instead, he recommends either PCC, FluXX or SHO-AIP...
@VisibledarkAstro3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. In my experimenting I found that it did work. I've also tried PCC (using narrowband settings) and that works as well with same/similar results. But in the end the individual processing has to decide what he/she would like to use for colour calibration. Whatever works best for them.

@@VisibledarkAstro I've found it works too, but I am a complete newb with PI and sometimes, I'm probably wrong in my assessment. But hey, it's all a learning curve, right? Thanks for the awesome content as always.
