I really like the way that even when things don't quite go to plan, you leave in the "mistakes" so people can learn from them.... It can be quite demoralising when watching other creators that seem to be able to do things perfectly all the time (because editing). It shows new players that even folks who have been playing for years can make slightly janky farms that don't work quite how they expected them to! There always seems to be this big expectation in gaming, that if you don't do things perfectly, that you're not good at the game, when in reality, everyone has their off days, and everyone has to build, take down, rebuild, and try different ideas to see what works best... it's lovely to see these little set backs :) Keep doing your thing Pix, still loving your content 👍❤

I love the badlands' reference to the US gold rush. I wonder if ever archeology would be added, if you brush out the gravel from badlands rivers (or just in the badlands themselves because I imagine that being difficult to code) that you might get gold nuggets from that.

That might be a bit OP though: you barter with piglins for gravel, then brush it out in a Badlands biome for more gold, to trade it back to the same piglins.

You can increase the bartering station to a great extent if you have a gold farm to supply gold above the bartering station. You can also put an automatic brewing station under the bartering station. Because as piglins trade water bottles, your brewing station can run for a really long time and it would look so cool! You can also trade away the leather and string to leatherworker and shepherd villagers for emeralds and free xp!

Rather than a clock, since an item is passing through a hopper, a comparator can be used to create a signal when an item enters the hopper which in turn can trigger the dropper to send another gold.
@Pixlriffs2 жыл бұрын
I find this method unreliable, since the piglins can drop items with a variable stack size - it can be as few as 1 item and as many as 36 items, so depending on how you're producing a signal from the hopper, it doesn't always dispense the ingots at the optimal time.
@TheRealWormbo2 жыл бұрын
A simple alternative method that is definitely fast enough for two (maybe even three) piglins is dropping the items onto a wooden pressure plate and using that plate's inverted signal to drop the next gold ingot. The tricky part with that approach is making sure the piglins can always reach the item, while the item still touches the pressure plate reliably. The typical solution for that is having them stand on carpet and pushing in the block above them, since it now slightly clips into their heads. But then again, a 6 second timer really isn't that complicated.

I'm sure you figured this out on your own, but it seems like the piglin being on the edge of the hopper is what's causing him to not get the gold, making him off-center. In other words, he's too close to the other piglin when the game tries to give him the ingot, and that's why it's getting "stolen" from him. Maybe having the dispenser/dropper behind them instead of above them would solve the problem, so that the ingots are being shot more directly at them instead of being dropped from above?

An alternative to using a red stone clock that one of the people in my SMP did was to have the dropper spit out the gold ingot on a gold pressure plate. Then when the piglin picks it up, the pressure plate triggers the dropper to spit out another gold ingot. Requires a decent amount of gold in the first place to make all the lightweight pressure plates, but it means there’s always an ingot for them to grab as long as there is gold in the system.
@jonadabtheunsightly2 жыл бұрын
If the dropper spits out a second piece of gold as soon as the first one is picked up, the second one will be sucked up by the hopper below, while the piglin is still examining the first one. The whole point of the timing circuit is to not spit out the second piece of gold until the piglin finishes examining the first one and is ready to pick up another.
@TacticalSatsuma2 жыл бұрын
@@jonadabtheunsightly I've seen a couple of people talking about his design so it must work. I'm assuming that the gold gets dispensed onto a one block high ledge next to the piglin maybe? The piglin could still pick it up but there's no risk of the hopper sucking up the gold.

Really the only parts you need access to during normal operation are the input, the output, and the levers. All of which can be put on the end of the line if desired, so then the whole setup can stretch in a line away from your path. Being able to see the piglins is useful for trouble-shooting while you're building the thing, but once it's working, you never have to go back there again, unless you want to expand the thing to have more booths.

Well that cleared up one thing, the gold doesn't spawn in the terracotta layers. Guess I need to find something to do with the 12 double chests of terracotta I have :) I am seeing a load of gold lower down, its a bit of a saver for me because I need gold to heal my villagers, and I'm not quite to the point of making a zombie gold farm. I've heard Mojang are nerfing the XP bit of zombie gold farms, so we're going to have to go back to killing them by hand if we want an XP farm and to get the ingots. I'm slowly adjusting to the new ore changes - once you get the hang of it, it seems diamonds are at least as easy to get at Y -54 as -58 and you have fewer lava issues. I seem to be getting more diamonds that I did in 1,17 despite the slower digging through deepslate, so it seems Mojang have got the balance right. I'm liking this series Pixel, some seem to think its a bit slow but I think the pace is right, you're taking time to explain stuff which is good - there's no reason to race to get everything done. As far as the bartering system, I dispense the gold to a pressure plate at head level between 2 piglins standing on carpet. They can get the gold diagonally through glass, and when they take all the gold, the pressure plate releases and you can use the signal to dispense more gold. The system runs pretty automatically then, without the need for timers.

(I realise this stuff only tangentially fits with the episode, but I thought I'd mention it in case anyone wants advice on ways to get lots of gold in a hurry but not necessarily in a long term renewable way) Pixlriffs covered this in episode 42 of survival guide season 2, but another place you can get gold (and if you have an elytra, arguably the fastest low-risk method) is the ocean monuments, where every monument has 8 gold blocks hidden together in a dark prismarine box in a room at the back of the monument. It's a mid-game method, in that all you need is an elytra, 3 doors and a good sword for killing creepers (for gunpowder for rockets), and it's fast since you don't need to setup a smelter, and with an elytra you can cover vast amounts of ocean, and spot the monuments very easily (by contrast, gold ore/nether gold ore mining is much slower, and bastion raiding is riskier, and even with an elytra is slower, since nether terrain is more of a maze than flying over the oceans). [EDIT: I forgot about gold ore dropping multiple raw gold post 1.17, so it's quite possible that with good terrain and cave generation in a mesa biome, the method pixlriffs demostrates in this video is in fact champion!] In order to not get mining fatigue, when you spot the monument turn down your render distance to 2 and approach the monument from the back (where there's like 6 small arches on the roof), and then dig down at the arches and the gold room will be under one of them (apart from the outermost arch on either end). Or don't bother with render distance stuff and just carry some buckets of milk with you. It's certainly quicker than other methods if for example you're speedrunning trying to get a beacon's worth of gold. However if you're wanting much much more gold than that/a reliable source of gold long term then setting up a gold farm is definitely the way to go, as much like with the other methods (ore mining/bastion raiding) at the start you'll get gold galore but after a while you'll find yourself having to go further and further to find untouched gold (plus gold farms are usually AFKable :D ) If you're wanting gold specifically for some quick bartering though, then bastions are probably the best way to go since there's already a bunch of piglins that won't despawn chilling nearby.

@JohnR314152 жыл бұрын
Can you not stack them 20 to a cell and have a much faster clock? (The overall rates wouldn’t change, but would be rather more compact, and no diagonal issues).
@TheRealWormbo2 жыл бұрын
You are limited by the item output, actually. Yes, you could cram 24 of them into a single cell, or even more if you add vines or the like. But when you give them gold at the ideal intervals, each piglin returns an amount items at just over 1/3rd of a hopper's transfer rate. If you have a single hopper, it will only be able to handle the output from two piglins. A special configuration of hoppers can handle up to 5 piglins. If you properly align a hopper minecart over 4 hoppers you might be able to keep up with 10 piglins, but sorting those items already gets awkward. With anything above double hopper speed you probably don't want to use hoppers at all and instead add a sorting system where the items are aligned on and pushed over ice, or actually right through a portal to the overworld into a water stream.

@Pixlriffs2 жыл бұрын
Since some of them already spawn with gold armour, I tend to prefer using nametags. Detecting the contents of the output hopper can work, but since the items they drop have variable stack sizes, it doesn't always dispense the next ingot right away (or, depending on the setup, can throw them an ingot while they're still inspecting the last one.) I just find a timer more simple to set up.

They are really simple, you just make platforms of magma and put turtle eggs in the center to make them fall

check out the gold farm by ianxo4, he has this series called Minecraft elegance. the farms are simple yet ingenius and have more than enough rates to satiate your single player world desires.

For some reason, when I try to click the like button, I fat finger the dislike button. I always fix it, but I hope it’s not affecting your algorithms. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 I’m loving this series, just killed the ender dragon (first time ever) in MCPE on an iPad with a touch screen. Headed end city raiding for elytra (hopefully multiple) this weekend! TY Pix!!!

Why don't you trap more than one piglin in a single cell and increase the redstone clock speed
@Pixlriffs2 жыл бұрын
Because a single hopper isn't enough to drain all the items fast enough. Piglins can drop up to 36 items (iron nuggets), and multiple items like that can backlog the hopper. If you have multiple piglins in the same space, you need a collection mechanism that works fast enough to keep up with them. It makes things more complex than they need to be the newer players this tutorial is aimed at. It also ignores another point of this farm, which is to provide decoration for one of my Nether Hub tunnels. I want the piglins to be visible in the tunnel wall as I walk past! Cramming them all into a single cell might be space efficient but it does nothing for the looks of the farm.
