oh man I know that feeling. Hitting doubles and triples. Every cast reeling one in. Such fun

Just tried this for the first time Labor Day weekend 2017. It was a lot of fun! Although, so early in the season we weren't catching anything until midnight - 1 am. Thanks for sharing!

Hi there Henry. Pretty cool to catch these squid in the day. But he does edit it a lot. He Clips it and then blinks in the rod jerk that nails the squid, this throws off your perception. it has been about 15 years since I did this. We just used 1 oz weight and 3-4 triple hooks tied in line. the schools would swim through the lights on the surface of the water. We would cast ahead leading them and jig through the school. Usually catching 2 to 5 squids a cast. We must have been lucky in those days.

Is squiding in Puget Sound all year or is there a specific time of year to go
@PixsterTime

Market squid is in the Puget Sound and can be caught year-round. However, squidding is much more productive in the Autumn and Winter months.

What time do you squid during the day? No luck until sunset and after when I go. Also, do the squid prefer certain colors or shine during the day? My glow and red/green striped jigs slay at night.
@PixsterTime

It's hit | miss with different areas during the day. This place has not been good this year for day-time squidding except a few days in the fall. Squid and all cephalopods are color blind. They can differentiate between light and dark (grayscale). Actually, it's a little more complex than that. However, it's better to have highly reflective (silver) and/or glow than any color. I've been telling people this fact for years, but no one ever listen. Squid are spawning now, so if you pull up clumps of squid eggs, please drop them back into the water.

Speak of the devil, I just went to the Great Wheel today to try day time fishing for the first time today. Caught my limit in like two hours. Hooked up on some eggs and dropped them back, then I stayed off the bottom to prevent more hook ups. I find reflective does help attract squid, but the slight twitching action and pause is what gets them to strike.

During the day? Where was this? Any chance there is somewhere near Oly that we could go squidding during the day?

+Dahnoie D Squidding usually lasts through at least Jan and sometimes much longer. It just all depends on the squid and when/where they leave for deeper waters. Go out and catch some while the season is good.

Hi, do you let the jig sink to the bottom or in the middle column of water? Do you ever let the jig sink to the bottom? I see many people squid jig and they dont seem to let the jig sink to the bottom? Why???
@PixsterTime
@PixsterTime 7 жыл бұрын
Squid can be anywhere in the water column. They can be at the surface, middle, or all the way to the bottom. Watch the techniques of people who catch a lot of squid and mimic their actions.

@PixsterTime
@PixsterTime 6 жыл бұрын
I think the top jig is 1/4 oz and bottom jig 1/2 oz. How deep to let the jigs go depends on how deep the squid are...where I'm fishing is probably 30-40 feet.

michfan7804 Squidding is just something to pass the time. And it is not like combat fishing the NW rivers with 100 salmon fishermen. I do not jig squids on piers like this. I have better places. Been yeas since I have done it. But I think I am going to do a little squiding in a few months for halibut bait.
@RandomTXDude210
@RandomTXDude210 8 жыл бұрын
Not everyone has the option. Salmon/steelhead season starts up here in WA (where video was shot), and you have a few options: go fishing after work with hundreds of other people, but get in a few hours of fishing before dark, or don't because the nearest not crowded river is too far away before dark. Though if you're willing to do some hiking and deal with the crazies that live along the banks of some of the rivers around here, you can find decent, uncrowded spots.

LT 205 "Over fishing from the same people all the time. With the limit already being 10lbs per person and many of these ppl taking from a few pounds over to double and triple limits just imagine what would happen if the limit was 30lbs per person? Many of these people squidding run from dock to dock. I talked to a guy there recently who told me he had just returned from getting a limit at Edmonds Pier." That's called "poaching", and is illegal. Did you report the guy to the authorities? If no, why not? wdfw.wa.gov/enforcement/reporting_violations.html

Pixster Time A friend of mine reported an Asian family @ the Edmonds pier for overfishing squid and the wdfw said that they didn't have anybody available to go down to the pier...... Needless to say that didn't help. A normal person would be totally cool with 10 lbs..... that's plenty!!! These people felt they needed to fill the trunk of a Toyota Carollal...... Smh
