I think one of Meowth's alternate costumes should give him light blue fur, a reference to it's Alolan Form. Edit: People have pointed out that Alolan Meowth's fur is actually grey. After looking at it's fur again I still think there is a hint of blue in there, but I agree it is still primarily grey. Alolan Meowth's shiny form is definitely blue though, so that could maybe be another alt. Perhaps there could be a brown-furred alt based on Galarian Meowth too.

This is great! I've always felt similarly about Meowth, and letting more Pokémon anime inspiration into Smash, given how much it and the games feed into each other. My only big change would be the final smash. I think having some big explosive attack with Jessie and James in the Meowth balloon would be ideal. Something more comedic. They could even blow themselves up at the end and fly off into the background like Ridley's final smash.

Well when you choose the Advent Children version of Cloud, his Omnislash is based off of that movie, not of the game. So a Team Rocket Final Smash would work.

Fun fact about Meowth: Its number in the original Pokédex is Pikachu's number in the dex backwards. Pikachu is 25 and Meowth is 52. This further sport supports their rivalry, not only as the main Pokémon of opposing parties, but also as they're based on a cat and a mouse respectively.

My problem with Pokemon is that they don't have much personality to them. They're cool yeah but they sort of just act like the most generic version of what they're supposed to represent. Greninja is a generic ninja, Incineroar is a generic wrestler etc. Mewtwo doesn't show much of a personality in smash other then looking grumpy all the time which is a huge let down since Mewtwo is a lot more than that. I'd love a character with personality like Meowth people just love characters with personality in general. Don't believe me? Look at the cult of Dedede and other wacky characters who usually become memelords.

With the reveal of Gigantamax Meowth, it's final smash should be just that. It could play similar to bowser's final smash where meowth appears in the background as gigantamax meowth and you would choose where you attack with a strong slash.

Ummmmmmmmm Pizza, Confusion is Mewtwo's Side B. Disable is the Down B. In any case, solid moveset. I think my favorite is the Side B just because of how well it fits Pokemon in Meowth's archetype and the Team Rocket Reference. I also like those alternate costumes a lot. I'd have to double check to be 100% sure but I think it may be my favorite batch of alternate palettes yet.

I don't think Fake Out should be a counter as A. We have enough and B. It doesn't really make much sense as one, it's the classic made you blink trick your elementary school bully does to you. Instead maybe it could work as an actual fake out. My idea is when initiating the move Meowth gets a though bubble over his head as if he is using nasty plot, then he can input a direction to swap out the next corresponding smash attack (or Thief if you press back) with a fake out. The fake out would look like Meowth intiating the chosen smash attack but Meowth would instead clap. The clap to generates a shock wave that breaks shields instantly and/or stun players hit by it even if they try to counter. With the Thief Fake Out Meowth would simply stop and clap just outside of his opponents range Sorry that this was LOOOOOOOONG

I'm totally in the same boat! Of all the Pokemon that aren't playable yet, I feel like Meowth deserves it the most, since it's on par with Jigglypuff and Pikachu in terms of presence in the franchise. And I really hope it does one day. Maybe throw in Alolan Meowth as an Echo Fighter for fun.

I do really like the idea of Meowth, but I feel the moveset is a bit TOO reliant on the idea of 'Fury Swipes'. I like the idea of Meowth as a combo character, and agree that he should take from his games as the primary source with Team Rocket added in for his Final Smash/win poses, but I feel that a bit more could be done to bring out his trickster nature. For example, rather than having a flinch animation, redo his counter move to Play Rough, causing a cartoon dust cloud beat up and then lowering the opponent's attack stat or knockback, or Screech to give them an effect similar to ink or increased knockback from his otherwise mediocre kill options, or Taunt to outright prevent specials that deal 0% damage on their own to make him a character specialist. I adore the Pay Day ideas and the recovery, it's a great deal of flexibility, but he seems too... not horribly annoying enough to be Meowth, y'know? Enjoyed it all the same and looking forward to the next!

Great moveset as usual. Personally if they ever go back for another Kanto Pokemon, I hope it's Eevee with some sort of evolution mechanic. But Meowth is also a great choice that, like you said, will pretty much always make sense.

I’d like Meowths down special to be Wobbuffet pop up say it’s name and use counter or mirror coat it might have some start lag but it’s deadly but you have to tilt the control stick to make it counter for physical attacks and mirror coat for special attacks.If you get them mixed up they’ll fail and both Meowth and wobbuffet take damage.

Howzabout I take a crack at the Meowth moveset thing? In the anime, Meowth is not a fighter, he hangs by the sidelines with Jessie and James, and only fights on special occasions. As such, Meowth would be light and physically weak, though he’d have some decent mobility, but he’d rely mostly on an arsenal of tricks to outsmart his opponents. Jab-3 scratches Rapid jab-Rapid scratch Side tilt-Tail whip (Meowth spins and his tail hits opponents) Up tilt-Overhead/upwards scratch Down tilt-Sweeping scratch Dash attack-3 scratches while Meowth runs (kinda like Luigi’s dash) A fun concept I came up with is Jessie & James’ Pokemon helping Meowth with attacks, aerials mostly using James’ Pokemon and Smash attacks using Jessie’s Pokemon. Neutral aerial-A spin much like the neutral air in this video Forward aerial-Yamask appears using Haze to shoot a stream of smog forwards Up aerial-Meowth lifts Marianie above his head to attack Back aerial-Cacnea swings its arms behind Meowth Down aerial-Mime Jr. stomps downwards 3 times (just like PAC-Man’s down-air) Forward Smash-Seviper bites/shoots poison in front of Meowth Up Smash-Meowth prepares to attack, but then Wobuffet pops up in front of him and interrupts him, Meowth looks moderately annoyed at this Down Smash-Mimikyu slams down with both tendrils, Meowth looks scared when this happens Grab-The extending arm gadget (we’ve all seen that one gif) Pummel-Meowth headbutts the captured opponent Forward throw-Meowth launches the opponent away with the hand. Up throw-Meowth throws the opponent up and punches them with the hand Back throw-An overhead swing (again, like Luigi’s) Down throw-Meowth snaps his fingers, and the opponent gets buried (Continued in replies)

Part 2 of 2 Neutral Special-Net cannon:Meowth pulls out a cannon that shoots a net. It moves like a standard projectile, but when it hits someone it does minimal damage, and traps that person in a net. Being trapped by a net is like being dizzy or buried, you’re stuck helpless where you are, but you can mash buttons to get out quicker. Of course being caught in the net gives Meowth a chance to score some free hits. Side Special-Bomb dash:Meowth dashed forward in a cartoonish blur (if I were to describe the feel of it, it’d be like dodging to the side). This dash does very little damage (5% at best) and does no knockback at all, but when Meowth dashes, he drops a bomb about where the move starts. The bomb detonated shortly, and has good damage and knockback. The dash goes through opponents and shields but Meowth is not invincible during it. But since you aren’t moved by the dash, punishing the attack is tricky, especially since the bomb will be right there. Up Special-Meowth balloon:Meowth hops into a smaller version of Team Rocket’s famous balloon, and flies away. This move is very similar to K. Rool’s Up Special, but it has no offensive capability. To make up for its lack of firepower, this move has a special perk. The balloon has two hitboxes, the balloon head itself, and Meowth in the basket. Hitting Meowth simply gimps the recovery, but hitting the balloon itself causes it to pop, and sporadically flies away (as it does in the anime). However, instead of flying around randomly, the balloon simply shoots upward slightly, giving Meowth a vertical boost. Down Special-Alright, total honesty here, I don’t yet have a Down Special yet. Final Smash-Mecha Meowth Madness:Meowth shoots forward, and any opponents hit by him get taken to a cutscene FS, where Meowth hops into a giant Meowth robot, that starts firing rockets electric shocks, punches, and stuff of that sort at the caught opponents. Up Taunt-Meowth poses and shouts “Meowth, That’s Right!” Side Taunt-Meowth polishes his coin with a shoe buffer. Down Taunt-Meowth pulls out a ball of dough, and slices it into noodles. Victory 1-Meowth, in an over-dramatic way, slashes to both sides, and triumphantly proclaims “Meowth, That’s Right!” Victory 2-Meowth plays his guitar while Jessie & James’ Pokemon cheer him on. Victory 3-Jessie and James pose triumphantly, and Meowth runs excitedly on screen, holding a large capsule with a tied up Pikachu trapped inside (kind of like how Piranha Plant’s victory screen shows him defeating Mario). I don’t have that many ideas for Meowth’s costumes, but I do have the idea that they should all be outfits that Meowth has worn in the anime. Such as the tuxedo and top hat from “Go West, Young Meowth”, the cheerleading outfit from “Electric Shock Showdown”, or the bakery outfit that we see Team Rocket wear throughout Alola.

Gengar... FOR SMAAASH! Here's my moveset for Gengar for Smash! Jab: A double-scratch attack, followed up by a tongue slap. Side tilt: a bite. Down tilt: A crouching tongue flail (Similar to bower jr's down tilt) Up tilt: a upwards facing headbutt Smash attacks: Forward smash is a big-boy shadow punch Up smash is a upwards facing shadow punch Down smash is a 360 spinning claw attack Specials Gengar's neutral special is Shadow ball. Gengar charges a shadow ball in his hands, and then throws it if B is pressed. Gengar's side special is scary face. Gengar hides his face for a moment with his arms, but then shows it. this move can reflect projectiles and temporarily reverse opponent's controls Gengar's down special is hypnosis/dream eater. Gengar will make a short-ranged hypnosis projectile, and then if it hits, gengar can follow it up with dream eater. If dream eater hits, then gengar will damage the opponent, and heal himself by a little (Sorta like Villager's down special) Gengar's up special is Phantom Force. Gengar will teleport somewhere, depending on directional input, and also, if any opponents are between Gengar and Gengar's destination, they will be damaged and stunned for a few moments (A mix of Quick-Attack and Teleport) Gengar's grab is where Gengar stares the opponent down, trapping their soul. Pummel is where gengar bites. Forward throw is where gengar shadow punches. Back throw is where gengar spins for a bit, and hurls his opponents. Up throws it where gengar throws the opponent up, and bites them Down throws is where gengar knocks them to the ground, and repeatedly bites them. Aerials Forward air is a double-scratch attack Back air is a flipping-backflip kick (Like Lucas's back air, which is a spike) Down air is a rapid scratch downwards Up air is a upwards facing clap Taunts Gengar's up taunt is where he laughs while facing the camera Gengar's side taunt is where he flips his tongue around Gengar's side taunt is where he makes a soul (or flame) appear on his hand, and he eats it. Victory animations First is where gengar is nowhere to be seen, but then he comes out of the ground, and laughs Second is where Gengar Swims in the ground, and the camera zooms in on him. Third is where the camera zooms in on gengar, but gengar scratches it away. Dash attack is a lunging bite. Gimmick: Soul meter. If gengar deals damage, his soul meter will do up, allowing him to deal more damage. If Gengar is damaged, his soul meter will go down, making him do normal damage.

Not just meowth but Jessie and James as well since they are his friends. He could be the main fighter but we all know that he is a Pokemon thieve. I propose that Jessie and James stand back and attack the opponents with Meowth as Cpus, but they only support Meowth, not attack randomly. His A attacks have to be scratches that look a lot like Jokers knife attacks, because they are both theives and Meowth likes to exaggerate himself. Also, if you want a real bad guy then look at Giovanni.
