The WORST projectile in Smash

What's even crazier is that this move was significantly buffed since sm4sh. It was just completely unusable. At least now it falls earlier so it can cover some really weird recovery angles that most other characters couldn't really contest

I’m a Ludwig and Hero main. The canon ball is insane when wanting to rule over space. Take the Mecha koopa and side be. A bonus is if you follow the canon ball and then continue up air or up throw Mechakoopa forcing them to come down among all projection while you run over them

If you can set it up correctly it's alright but 9/10 times you get punished for using it, especially offline. Side B is really good and mecha koopa is also quite a good move but I personally consider cannonball much worse than those 2 moves

But yeah, I have to agree to some extent. I hate how you can’t store them, I mostly use them for a surprisingly good at edge guarding because of his fast forward tilt and Mechakoopa guarding the stage, meaning they can’t get up without punish

@@Chill-Noob1 oh that's a fair argument, however I believe Fox laser is good for forcing characters to approach along with his reflector this is especially really good in the context of Fox being a rushdown character that really likes fighting up close. It's not an amazing projectile by any means but I do believe it's better then Cannonball. Thanks for your comment!

it might be true that the move is the worst Projektile but, it has more (situational) usage. As example: in Disadvantage off stage, you can charge and fire it to hit the opponent or at least make it easier to recover. in Advantage if your opponent is trying to recover, you can jump above the ledge and charge it. the you release it right next to the ledge and you will shot the cannonball and ledge-cancel the move.The move is also good to force the Opponent to recover more Obvious or it can lead to make him use one of his resources (jump as an example) or even in a kill cuz they normally don't know when it comes down. The move has it usage, even if it's kinda niche.

People are giving use cases for it, and I totally agree (one of my friends plays Larry, and the shield pressure and stage control is insane), but what would replace it? Sure, there’s situational projectiles like Kirby up b, Snake up b after release, or Link f smash at 0, but pure projectile moves are usually really good. Maybe Ridley Plasma Breath?

Other good thing me when you get hit very hard, you throw the cannon ball up and then falls down. It uses to mantain on distance to your oponnent when you try to recover. But you are right in everything else.

Cannonball has three primary use cases in my experience. The first and most obvious is jump + uncharged/slightly charged while the opponent is recovering to cover some variety of jump, ledge hang, and slow recovery. This leads well into his very strong ledgetrapping game, and if it does hit, sets up nicely for his lingering hitboxes offstage. You can also mix up your positioning to get it to land on stage and potentially catch their normal getup and shield. The second usage is to cover ledge after you’ve been knocked into the top corner of the blastzone. It’s free to set up against most characters and generally puts them on edge. By the time jr is near ledge, the ball is falling from above the camera so they probably can’t tell exactly where and when it’s going to fall. You also have the option of recovering high and descending with the ball to make landing easier. Finally, it’s useful against some projectile/campy characters on stage. They’re forced to either approach or deal with it (lets you set up mecha koopa, or approach more safely). It’s especially useful for going over Steve’s wall and forcing him to stop mining. It can also beat out offstage mine cart. Cannonball seems very weak for its commitment but its main purpose is controlling space and creating openings to charge in, rather than any major reward for hitting it (players will do anything to avoid getting hit anyway).

I use it against Steve quite a bit, but I didn't take matchup specific things into account. I agree that it can be used to edgeguard and for it too fall onto the opponent, which the latter I didn't cover in depth enough in my video tbh. Thanks for your comment!

I'm a Jr. main, it's not even close to worst. its very helpful for edgeguarding because the hitbox is out for a while and is pretty big, and remains active when it falls so it can hit opponents below the stage. It does a lot of damage to shields so it can be used into baiting your opponent into jumping over it, which is very predictable.

I understand why you'd think that, but usually we can't even punish the opponent for the jump directly due to the end lag that cannonball has so you have to predict what they land with which is a lot harder especially cuz most landing aerials are extremely hard to punish. @itsagamerfgc Nah, i've actually "finished" combos with dash attack, I think is BY FAR Down Air. Not only is it already hard to hit someone with Down Air on it's own, but it's incredibly difficult to actually hit all the way with it, people just slip out of it. + it doesn't even spike, if u actually hit someone with Down Air all the way, it'll send them UPWARDS. Even Forward Tilt, his only "bad" tilt, it's atleast fast and somewhat safe, even Cannonball, tho pretty bad, can be use to scare opponents off stage as people r scared of it. Down Air has none that, it's pretty useless

so a lot of your arguments are not wrong, it's laggy, slow, and doesn't kill, but it's strangely good at taking your opponent by surprise through B reversing. Additionally there's setups where you can camp at the ledge at cancel all the end lag frames by grabbing ledge, so he can cut off half of the recovery space forcing opponents to recover low. Cannonball sucks, but it's not THAT bad in super niche scenarios!

As someone who actually plays bowser junion I completely dissagree, it has a large variety of uses and is actually quite good. It is used for covering space and for being used with his down b to cover a lot of space

Thoughts before I watch the video: The move kinda sucks, but it comes in very handy in some matchups. It can completely block the horizontal path back to the stage, and when combined with other moves (fair, nair, mechakoopa), can create some nasty edge guards. and some characters with poorer movement onstage can have their options limited by it sometimes cus shielding it can be risky (only use it when they’re far away though). I like shooting it so it lands behind Steve’s wall too.

I disagree. I have gotten really good at shooting it with the timing of it dropping down and hitting the opponent. It either hits them straight out because they dont anticipate or it forces them to shield

IMO this move is tied with Byleth's Failnaught as the worst. The arrows' startup are so slow that even MKleo couldn't consistently land them At least it can Shield-Cancel the first half, so it's useful for B-Reverses. IMO, matching the usefulness of Clown Cannon's ability to ledge-cancel, cutting off it's lag and making it decent to condition certain recovery paths. Pick your poison.

Ya know what, that's fair. Byleth's Nuetral B is also really bad. I personally think it's slightly better then cannonball (like very slightly) because you can actually cancel it. But I do agree with your "pick your poison" statement as they're both really bad moves. Thanks for your comment!

@@MrGameguyC Indeed, there's very few moves in Ultimate that actually have no use in competitive play. Even moves that are pretty much considered worthless like Warlock punch have a niche as a shield break punish (It's still a horrible move tho).

I mean, with mecha koopa you have so many better options like doing actual combos of it or using it as an item, I suppose you can sometimes put a mecha at ledge and edgeguard with Cannonball against slow recoveries but I don't see how Mecha Koopa helps a lot in relation to Cannonball (Mecha Koopa is a pretty good move tho). Other bad projectiles could Ne Diddys peanut gun just does not really do anything. Even as fully charged, it takes a lot of frames and the damage output is not good. Not to mention that his Banana projectile heavely outshines it. Unpopular opinion but I really dont like Jokers projectiles are that good if Arsend is not active. His Guns does not even shot far at all, does not flinch the target. And Joker is already fast anyways so he should just approach his enemies. Even though his other attacks are not that good or strong either. Had Joker not had his Arsend mecanic, he could have easily been a low Tier like Ganon.

hi i'm the only junior main in existence. cannonball is cool as hell. kirby's final cutter projectile is the worst in the game because you can't use it for anything at all. bowser's fire breath, luigi's stupid fireball, rosalina's star bits, and lucas's PK thunder are also worse than GOATball.
